A monks pet
I am in pre-searing, and I want to get a cool pet, my top 2 canidates are:
1) Melandrus Stalker
2) Black Bear
Witch would you pick that best suits a monk?
&
Would it be easy to get them to Dire?

Neither is good; when they die, they disable your skills for 5-10 seconds. It's worse than ressing mid-battle. Seriously, anything's better on a monk (I'd prefer being on the frontline over bringing a pet)

Generally monks shouldn't use pets. If/when your pet dies all of your skills are recharged, which means you and your party are boned.
Plus, you don't have that much leeway playing a monk. 14 prot or healing prayers, as much divine favor as you can get, yeah.

Like they said a pet on a monk isn't very effecient but if you just want one for looks and like furry things...I'd go with the bear.
It is kinda hard to tame a bear in pre-sear to begin with unless you have someone help you because they can break the tame.
And I'd say death-leveling a dire bear in pre is probably not worth it. You'd have to lure it to a res shrine first and let it level up to 15 by killing you over and over and by that time I don't know if he'd be too hard to tame (by that I mean him killing you) even with someone helping.
If you're not gonna stay in pre I'd wait until post-sear to get a dire.

I actually prefer the look of Melandru's Stalkers myself. The bears just look fat to me, and much too small to be cool.

For now, get the Melandru's Stalker. It is XP for a quest given by Nente, in Pre-searing, and also for a quest in Ruins of Ascolon (west of Saderlac Sanitarium) spl?. Yeah, Nente has a thing for Stalkers, so Nente will ask you to capture one in Post-War. So if you still have one, then you get XP for free.
Of all the pets, in all of the campaigns... I'm not sure what looks the best. Underworld Spider? Black Moa? Polar Bear? White Tiger? White Crab? Phoenix?
Personally, I want a rabbit, but they are un-charmable. Even in the Norn areas.
You can't even charm that dog in the Isle Of The Nameless (that is where he is right? Or was it in Battle Isle?)
The pet must complement the owner. (See FIDO commercials).

if you train your pet in pre-searing
when you reach post-sear you have to give it up.... there's a quest where you have to give a melandru stalker to the tamer.... so not wise to train pet in pre-sear unless you don't want to do that quest.
if its for show, rainbow phoenix, thats a for show pet, which you can only get after you achieve something (i can't remember what), but my personal favourite pet is polar bear.

What quest is that??? A Quest to give up your pet? I've never seen that. Is that new? I know Ranger Nente asks for you to charm a Melandru's Stalker after the Seering, because they have become so rare.
Who gives you the quest to give up your pet?
