A good Prot build for PvE
Hi, im starting a new monk, and I was wondering if anyone had any good SoD builds for PvE. If not, what other good prot builds are there? (Preferrably not ZB) thanks!

depends on the area mostly. if alot of melee sod, rof, ps just play around with prot skill u like. if theres a lot of conditions throw rc in there. usually prot goes /e or /me for sum type of nrgy management. best thing to do when monking play around with skills u like and are effective gl.

I would advise against a pure prot monk. hybrid monks are better for 2 reasons:
1. there arent enough prot skills that provide uniquely useful effects to fill a skill bar. sure SB and PS are both useful, but you wouldnt want them on the same bar.
2. protection skills do not lose enough effectiveness from 13 to 11 (for example) for it to make sense not to bring some straight healing skills at about 10 spec
soooo... run a hybrid

SoD is really not that strong of a PvE skill imo. The return for the energy is just not enough. Take guardian and use a better elite. SoR is a good elite in PvE as long as you don't spam it. Not sure what you have against ZB, but it's the best PvE elite for prot to me. You can run high prot and have a good spike heal that's not WoH. With high prot, take PS, RoF, Dismiss, Guardian, and SoA.
But, as has been said before...i would never run straight prot as a monk. though i prefer prot over heal, right now heals are too efficient to pass up.

If I had to run a prot monk and not a hybrid, for most areas my elite would be [skill]Restore Condition[/skill]

QFT. Restore condition is pretty useful, though I would recommend WoH and ZB over it.

It is possible no NF as for no ZB.It would be best to run a hybrid unless you really are set on pure protect. You don't need hardly any elites as no are great in protect as some of have said SoR,RC or Martyr.

I saw a template like this once with ZB on it as well along with Aegis.

Sod is good depends what your team build looks like. If you join an ursan group its pretty bad but for hero/henchmen it's solid.
I usually run something like this.
[shield of deflection][guardian][heaven's delight][divine healing][signet of devotion][glyph of lesser energy][prot spirit][aegis]
I have a necro hero with foul feast/pure was li ming so i don't have to worry about conditions. Brother mhenlo has deny hexes and the power heals.
Sod is only worth it in hard mode imo where monsters hit hard and focus/spike one guy usually.

Alright thanks. I really want to run something with SoD because it is my favorite Monk elite.

Drop guardian for SoA IMO. You already have SoD to provide blocks why do you need another one? And you have 3 divine skills why would you not run deny hexes unless your hero has more than you If he doesnt i would drop the signet for deny hexes.

I usually set up 1 of my Monk heroes as a SoD hybrid if I use hero Monks.
the build I use is:
[skill]gift of health[/skill] [skill]shielding hands[/skill] [skill]protective spirit[/skill] [skill]shield of deflection[/skill] [skill]dismiss condition[/skill] [skill]deny hexes[/skill] [skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill] [skill]divine healing[/skill]
