Default Newbie in Monk-ing.. special magic line?

Hi all,

I play GW already 3 years and I made a monk 2 years ago just for being a 55 slave. I don't play Monk due to my sucky connection (ping of course) and the fact that people are too demanding toward monks.

Now, I want to give it a chance again, since I am bored playing other clases already. My question is..

Is there any build/magic line that doesn't require you to act super fast? Like a build/magic line that can allow you to have a little windows of opportunity on making mistakes/being rather slow to react (due to ping.. not me D: ).

I usually just run WoH, and the usual LoD/Life sheath. But those are too generic and requires you to have a fast hand to be able to taking part on the group.

Thank you! Hope I can get a constructive replies!

PS: if this helps, I don't PvP anymore, so I can afford any PvE-only skills as well.

I usually run a modified HB build, but depending on the area, and how much aggro your group pulls, any build could require a fast-hand

i suppose the most forgiving monk line would probably be smiting prayers. However, I'm assuming you meant one of the other lines and probably healing or protection. The more forgiving of those two lines IMO would be protection. However, most of your top monk bars are hybrids now (meaning it incorporates both healing and protection). It is possible to play pure healing/protection, but less effective more often than not.

eh? so that's the "hybrids" means.. thanks I was wondering about that for so long but haven't got a chance to ask anyone.

And this is the new "trend" no? One thing about this hybrid monks, isn't it too much attribute splitting?

thanks!

What's your ping? As someone who's monking on 500-800 ping (and 700-1k in AB), sometimes you have to learn how to get past it. I hit the button a little earlier than I need to - for example, WoH gets extra heals at 50% health and below, so I'll hit the button just before the health drops to 50%.

Prot is definitely more forgiving than heal if you're lagging, though.

The attribute split on your common hybrid isn't really that bad, to be honest.

For dependance on ping though, I don't actually find it quite bad, and I suffer from it quite often. That is, when it's not incredibly bad.

people run hybrids because they're more efficient and effective than pure healing or prot bars; it's not just the trendy thing to do. the attribute split's fine.

OK, I've been in that situation before.

Honestly? The best way isn't to go one line in particular, because you're gimping yourself and your ability to monk that way. Play hybrid anyway, once you know how the skills work and synergize. If you play with friends, they're likely to be forgiving about your ping, which gives you enough time to learn how to monk despite it. Are you going to make mistakes? Yes. Are you going to have trouble catching big damage spikes at first, if ping is an issue? Yes.
But that's also how you improve, and how you become a lot more effective.

trend or no hybridsare here to stay. I played a WoH pure healing build before i started playing my hybrid that i run now and I can surely say the hybrid is a much better way to go. I have many fewer problems with energy conservation and catch a whole lot more damage than i ever did with my pure healer.

As far as attributes go your splits are just fine. usually you'll see a 12/9/9, or a 12/10/8 split (i currently run 12/10/8 with heal/prot/divine). when i'm making a build my basic rule of thumb is no more than three attributes to spread points too. Four is a bit of a stretch as it usually means you're trying to do too much with a build. I don't think I have ever built anything with 5 or more attributes because by that time you become a jack of all trades master of none.

It may only have certain uses, but a good slow paced monk build imo is a Bond Monk. Obviously this only works in conjuction with specific teams, but it does fit the bill for what you asked for. You stay outside the aggro circle and simply maintain your bonds. As a Mo/Me you can maintain about 8-10 bonds.

you dont need a fast connection unless you are infusing. you should be fine with a normal WoH hybid.

If your new I would run a hybrid and then when you get the hang of monking, ease your way into Protection or Healing Prayers.

why would you do that? hybrid builds are more effective than pure healing or pure prot.

Reading stickies and what the role is about helps the most.Go out and make a few builds yourself and see how good you play them. You could of leanred this before you started 55ing you got that down easy enough. You can get this down.

When you are having problems with your builds you can then post them back.Sorry for being harsh but most Monks learned on their own not by getting build made for them.
