As a monk hero/hench can be kinda annoying if you have no offensive skills, as it's hard to target foes to have heroes/hench focus on while healing. Other than that, generally the most effective way to play is 2 players and 6 heroes, too many people are idiots :P

If you H&H as a monk, you need to call targets a lot

ya call targets or they just run around attacking whatever and wand as often as possible. Check your heroes to so they are not on Avoid Combat. Smiting would be likely easier especially with ray of judgement and arcane echoing it.

Thanks for responses. When you call targets for them you use ctrl shift so you don't actually attack right? And is there any way to put the hench flag on a hotkey so I can just hit that and click where I want to drop it? That would help a lot.

call targets, make sure you have decent builds/armor/equip on the heros (henchs you cant do much about), take your time. There are very few missions that I needed a PUG/group to do..most I H/H'ed.

Not sure if you have already looked/tried some the hero builds, there are alot of awesome hero builds in the Heroes/AI section you almost posted in.
I have just put together my first discordway recently and WOW those guys kick ass and take names. Looking to expand in Sab/monk/ and any other way they have listed. Skip alot of the "this skill is better than that skill" bickering and pick what works for you.
From a monk perspective, if you want to specifically heal your heroes then that may not work/be the style you want.
Discord was easy to build, I still have some of the odds and ends to put on the heroes, but they still kick ass. And since your friend and you have a strict only mission together policy, you would be great candidates for some of the 2 man 6 hero builds also.
Hope this helps you

LOL
I hope that works out for you even if you only start with partial builds, you and you friend can work to unlock needed heroes/stuff. Some of the basic builds are here:
http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Category...ng_hero_builds
even though PVX gets poo pooed alot, still a nice starting point to use.
Build:Team - Discord Spam
Build:Team - PvE Paraway
Build:Team - PvE Smiteball
Build:Team - Triple Necro Vanquish

and if you run Sabway or Discordway you don't have to heal so much yourself anyway, so you do some damage yourself. With Sabway and 3 henchies I run something like this:
Pain Inverter
Castigation Signet
Techno Babble
Summon Ruby Djinn
and the only heal/prot skills I have are:
Word of Healing (E)
Healing Breeze
Reversal of Fortune
Rebirth

Yeah, as a PvE Monkie (sorta) I've noticed that trying to heal or prot in a h/h group will not go over well... You're better off calling discord or going with friends/guildies.

That's a bummer, I prefer monk in every way other than solo stuff. Do I need to ascend before I am able to do a 55 build for farming? I wouldn't mind just farming when my buddy isn't around. Plus i guess I could always just pvp too when I'm solo. Thanks again everyone for the responses, def gonna try out discord asap too.

Hee. You're reminding me of my brother. Whenever we're playing together he has a habit of shouting "STUPID F*ING AGGRO PULLING NPCS" at our heroes/henchmen from the other room.
Anyway, I just started a prot monk (like, yesterday I made her) and I mostly do H/H (it's all I've done with my monk so far) and I've learned to just call targets a lot (something that, when playing my assassin or dervish I normally don't bother with) and then stay back and cast. Though my secondary is also mesmer so I do have some skills that target enemies instead of allies, but yeah. Calling targets is good.

I hardly ever play H&H with my monk for this reason.
It's easiest to call targets as smiter, so that's a way to go.
When you are somewhat more familiar with target calling while playing monk it's doable to heal/prot while sending heroes out.
The easiest way of handling this is playing with a minion master. That means a lot of the damage will be migrated by the minions that are attacked instead of your heroes and hench. You have somewhat more time to keep track of what's happening.
However, most of the time I either play some easy stuff on my monk or just play with humans and have them handle aggro control.

Just attack the enemies with your staff/wand/spear and let your henchies and heroes do the rest while your busy healing i never had a problem with lack of damage while monking

Run a vanquishing build and call targets.
If you run discordway, run a bit more hexes and less healing.
