UWSC, not just for sins!
Well I love my monk as it is my main character, however I got sick of switching to my assassin to run in UWSC groups (other than RoJ Vale Support). So i decided to create some builds to fill in for sins to do their jobs just as well and in some cases better than their assassin counterparts. Several things you should know before you grab up your spears and smiting offhands these builds are NOT easier to run than their assassin counterparts. They are NOT cheaper to run. These are NOT to be run with high amounts of lag. And they are definitely NOT for the inexperienced in UWSC.
Why it works:
All UWSC teams use a Conset to make their builds work, which consists of a Grail of Might, Armor of Salvation, and Essence of Celerity which adds:
+1 to all attributes
+100 maximum Health
+10 maximum Energy
+10 armor
+1 Health regeneration
50% immunity to critical hits
damage reduction of 5
20% faster movement and attack speeds
20% reduction in skill activation
You will also need to bring two types of cons on your own:
Golden Eggs (+1 to all attributes)
Candy Corn (+1 to all attributes)
With all the things that I have made bold you have 20% faster recharge on skills and +3 to all attributes. If you already have 12 in Shadow Arts(which you will) that makes it 15. At 15 in SA Shadow Form lasts 21 Seconds.
21 x 1.2 (enchanting mod) = 25.2 seconds. With Deadly Paradox + the 20% reduction from Essence of Celerity you reach the cap of Skill reduction which is 50% so... 45 x 0.5 = 22.5. Which allows you a split second to recast Deadly Paradox and Shadow Form before it wears off.
The Equipment:
For all builds you will need the following,
LOTS of Golden Eggs (+1 to all attributes)
LOTS of Candy Corn (+1 to all attributes)
An Enchanting Spear/Sword/Axe (20%) with +5 Energy
A Smiting Offhand (+12 Energy) 20HSR/20HCT is helpful but not required
Smiting Scalp (+1+3Superior Rune)
Radiant Armor is helpful, but again not required
Attunement Runes are also helpful but not required
General Usage:
Maintain Shadow form, in order to do this you must be very very quick on the skills. You need to be spamming 2(or whatever slot you have it in) as fast as you can as the skill is recharging (with Deadly Paradox already active of course). MAINTAIN YOUR CANDIES, I cannot stress this enough! If you just let Golden Eggs down for 1 cast of SF you are extremely vulnerable for 1 second which will usually get you killed if you have aggro (keep in mind Golden Eggs last 5 minutes, and Candy Corns last 10 minutes). If you ever find yourself low on energy use Castigation signet but make sure that your target is ATTACKING, otherwise you get no energy return.
The Areas doable(thus far):
Pits:
Special Equipment:
A Zealous Scythe of Enchanting can be helpful at times, but I have never required one.
Attributes:
Smiting Prayers:12+1+3+3=19
Shadow Arts:12+3=15
Deadly Arts:3+3=6
The Rest:3(Golden Egg, Candy Corn, Grail)
Skills:
Deadly Paradox
Shadow Form(E)
Castigation Signet
Symbol of Wrath
Kirin Wrath
Radiation Field
Light of Deldrimor
Death's Charge
Running pits is the easiest in my opinion. When doing pits you must have a decent understanding of how this area works and pulls. One thing you should know is Threshers attack from ranged(very very long range) and Collectors are Melee. Because of this pulling can be a pain but when you are pulling and killing them I suggest you cast Radiation field on your bunched up group 2-3 times cycling Light of Deldrimor in also, then when they are at 50% health or less cast Symbol of Wrath/Kirin's Wrath one after another, this should easily finish of the groups. I Tossed together a guide to pits so just follow these steps:
1. Wait for Chambers to get graspings/aatxes in choke point and block. (here cast SoW/KW/Radiation field, will kill them all fast but watch for "Fear Me!" spike
2. Run up the Mountain and into pits
3. Once in pits run underneath the bridge and Death's Charge up to a Dead Collector/Thresher
4. Next run to the point where the Tortured Spirits spawn for quest and kill anything that is still aggroed on you.
5. Head up to reaper area killing the 1-2 groups left and the 2 groups behind Reaper spawn (not completely necessary but sometimes is the cause of a failure when spirits aggro these groups)
6. Kill the group of Terrorwebs (use Radiation Field and LoD only!)
7. Take quest and head to the base of the bridge to aggro all incoming Terrorwebs. Wait about 2-3 minutes for them all to come then kill them with Radiation Field / LoD as you did before (by this time quest can be completed)
And here is where I kill them, i run back across the bridge from where they came and kill the Dead Threshers/Collectors on other side with the Terrorwebs
8. If Pools or Planes has died while doing this go attempt to cover for them (Pools is easy to cover for, Plains not so much)
Vale Tank (usually filled by a dagger sin with Chilbains):
Special Equipment:
Along with your Radiant armor with attunement runes and your Smiting Scalp you will need a 55 Monk set (5 pieces of gear with Radiant + Superior runes (1 of each + extra one)) - this I will explain later
[build prof=Mo/A smi=11 pro=6 sha=12][Deadly Paradox][Shadow Form][Protective Spirit][Shielding Hands][Shadow Refuge][Castigation Signet][Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support][Death's Charge][/build]
This Build is also easy to run if you know what you are doing (as with all areas in UW with exception of mabye mountains). Quick list of directions:
1. Block for Chamber Sin once he gets into choke point, then kill any remaining nightmare with Castigation/Ebon Vanguard Assassin.
2. Head towards Wastes exit and grab the 2 Aatxes there and the extra aatxes on the stairs (a Nightmare pops at top of stairs usually so grab him too) then pull them back to wall near the right stairs and block them and have your RoJ/SS kill them.
3. Run through to Labryinth and onto Vale grabbing any Aatxes that were left by chambers and blocking them on stairs to let RoJ/SS kill.
4. Next once in Vale aggro up all groups of Graspings (sometimes the 1st group aggroed can be finicky and run away from you while you are grabbing the last group, in this situation ignore last group and just take the ones you already aggroed behind the house choke point to be killed)
5. Next aggro the 2-3 Coldfire spawns that roamer in the vacinity of the Reaper and the Terrorwebs which have spawned from Restoring Grenth's Monuments. Bring them to the next choke point (you should know where this is if you have ever run Vale RoJ before) and call in your RoJ/SS to kill.
6. Now the magic begins! do a last sweep of Vale (run all around where the spirits spawned to pop up nightmares and kill them)
7. Let SF drop and regen via Shadow Refuge and Don your 55 set and -50hp idol.
8. Call for RoJ/SS to get quest once you are in position of 1st spawn and cast Protective Spirit.
9. Once you have aggro on them cast Shielding Hands whenever it is recharged and Shadow Refuge inbetween to heal up. Cast Castigation to maintain your energy and Ebon Assassin Support to finish of extra spirits, rinse and repeat untill all groups are dead (for last group behind the reaper aggro one up top and Death Charge to it, speeds up the run a little bit)
10. Head back across bridge once finished and recast SF and ask RoJ/SS to get Escort, get aggro on both groups of Mindblades and bring them to the choke point and call the RoJ/SS by and just maintain SF till they get back... you can try to kill the mindblades but you won't get very far at all with the build i have listed (last 2 skills are optional... I can't find any better damage or AoE skills that don't cause scatter and aren't problems for your energy)
Pools :
Attributes:
Smiting Prayers:12+1+3+3=19
Shadow Arts:12+3=15
Deadly Arts:3+3=6
The Rest:3(Golden Egg, Candy Corn, Grail)
Skills:
Deadly Paradox
Shadow Form(E)
Castigation Signet
Holy Strike
"You Move Like a Dwarf"
Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support
Radiation Field
Death's Charge
For Pools I Always use Rock Candies to run faster through the Sludge. I suggest you do the same, otherwise you will find the lack of IAU difficult.
Chambers :
Attributes:
Smiting Prayers:12+1+3+3=19
Shadow Arts:12+3=15
Deadly Arts:3+3=6
The Rest:3(Golden Egg, Candy Corn, Grail)
Skills:
Deadly Paradox
Shadow Form(E)
Castigation Signet
Holy Strike
"You Move Like a Dwarf"
Light of Deldrimor
Radiation Field
Death's Charge
For Chambers this build is used to clear Chamber then spike each keeper.
Pictures and other builds are soon to come, if you have questions or comments post here or PM me. However if it is something I completely left out, I suggest you post here because others most likely have a similar question.

The pits build was an option ages ago before the nerf. Suppose it still works but u do need all those cons. Vale is nice. Would like to see the wastes/pools builds. Curious how u plan on surviving and/or killing the charged in pools. And how u plan on outdamaging the smites self heals without dying. Cant see any skills with enough damage on a monk tbh.

here the thing u really need to think about and reason why a lot of people do not like to take a/d pits a/mo pits and what not...where else can u do like 4h if another sin goes down u can't or takes u forever to do it that why they want the a/e for the area's it not that other classes can't do pits wasts or what not its they are specific for one area and can't help another area if the sin goes down
and really a lot are not going to waste 100k or more on personal cons to do uwsc when u can do it on a sin

Aye the pits build is nothing new, and has been around for awhile. As for someone's question about charged in Pools, you don't need to kill them infact the most expert Pools Sins/Eles don't kill them you just need to understand their pathing and how to use Death's Charge effectively. Will post that build once i get 1 more test run in. As for Wastes I was thinking the Pits build except the last 2 skills would be dropped for Feigned Neutrality and Shadow of Haste (I think you can Degen the smites via Radiation field to 50% before they start to heal, at this point you hit both SoR and KR to finish them... but again it is theoretical)

I've seen some monks running uwsc, the problem is that they lack versitility and the ability to cover other areas if another area goes down which usually happen in pug groups.

You will take a LOOOOOOOOOONG time to kill the queen in Pools with that build. I'd like to see screens with /age display to see how viable that build actually is. And I second the earlier concerns mentioned about Wastes.
Not hating..just saying that although its a nice idea, it needs to work through some kinks.

Show me a screenshot of this build doing any area in under 10 min, and i may unlock SF for my monk for lols.
Otherwise, i don't see the point considering it takes only a couple days to roll an assassin with decent enough pve titles for u dub.

Very detailed, though it would seem that spending all that gold on candy just so you can keep SF up on your monk would be a good enough reason to have a sin on your account. Though I will certainly give it a try.
How many corns and how many eggs would you say are needed to do a full run? I have plenty of eggs, but corns not so much.

Okay to cover some of the questions. Yes it takes longer than a sin to do Pools, however it isn't as long as you think (i have a new build for pools instead of that one that i think would work better... but i need to try it still).
For Theoden a newcomer to Monk Pits will take around 20ish minutes to clear which means 2-3 Candy Corns and 4-6 Golden Eggs.. I have gotten down to 2 Candy Corns and 3 eggs per run for pits after some practice.
For Horace.... It doesn't take 'a couple days' to get a sin with decent PvE titles unless you are playing and obscene amount. It takes acouple weeks if you are reasonable with the game. Also to go sub 10 minutes in the areas in question you need near max PvE titles (Pools is probably the exception to that rule). And as I have said I need more testing to provide evidence of it going under that time. (i have done queen and popped reaper in about 5-6 minutes when covering for a failed pools after i cleared pits this time is from when i entered pools to quest update on queen's death) As for Pits, afaik it is probably the fastest or equivalent to any sin/mesmer/ele build that would be used to clear pits. I personally rarely go for speed in PuGs therefore i have never broken 13 minutes in my clear (plus my EotN titles aren't that impressive). I believe a 10 minute pits is completely feasible with my build, same with the Vale build due to that being completely dependant on the Vale Support's killings (terra vale might go faster)
For king trouble this is true... however an A/D Pits can't cover Plains Pools or Mnts, however a Mo/A Pits can cover for pools. the A/Me and A/E varients are more versitile but in PuGs I'd guess over 50% of the teams won't accept a non A/D Pits because they are all to narrow minded to think that anything other then PvX Wiki works. The Pools build im working with can most likely cover pits but to do both of them within 30 minutes would be pushing it.

[QUOTE]
You got me there, I probably do play an obscene amount . A couple of issues here. Firstly, as Pools you are expected to be on plains for 4h. We consider it slow if you're not back up to plains rdy for 4h at about 10min. Monk SF can't beat 4h bosses so you are forced to wait for a third terra or delay the quest further by merely tanking one side until the plains terra has finished pits side of quest (which can take a while with no agro, and a generic plains build).
Im all for monk pits as long as you dont die on the way through mtn and you finish in the time you quoted. But I think saying that a monk pits should proceed to cover other areas is not necessary, as the plains or wastes terras should finish their quests under 9min and be ready to cover (with pits generally finishing later than the other areas, excluding vale).
Lastly, theres minimal damage in your vale build. Though you'd probably make it through the wrathful, an assassin/nec or/ele's damage output would make for a faster run.

Why waste own cons to do UWSC with a monk, when you can do it with a assassin faster?

To multi-task: get sweet tooth points, cash/ectos, and experience while doing UWSC on my monk (my main character who I want all of these things for) and also making builds that are actually Harder than the Sin equivalents is fun! (A novel idea for a game right?)

How to do UW on Any Class:
[deadly paradox] [shadow form] [radiation field] [i am unstoppable] [feigned neutrality] OR [death's charge] [Insert 3 Skills Here From Profession Of Your Choice].
Get a golden egg, candy corn, conset.
This is how Ele's do their areas still.
This is how Mesmers do chambers & pits still.
This is how Necros use the degen build for Pits still.
This is how Necros are vale tank still.
This is how Rits can vale tank also.
This is how Rits do plains.
This is how Dervishes can do pits.
This is how Dervishes play the role of vale tank.
See a pattern here?
PS: The PvE skills get changed out depending on the area of course.
