like prot was ever phased out for PvE. hard mode mobs don't wait around for your patient spirit to trigger before spiking you to death with a bajillion attacks.

i always bring at least one prot with me. particularly when i'm playing a rit or para, with their secondary party buffs doing away any need for a heal bar, i bring along 2 prots.

Prot was never out of PvE, PuGs just came to think red bar beats any prot.

I wouldn't say boon prot is back....possibly in PvE...but when it comes to GvG, HA, and other high end pvp there are still far superior bars. WoH+Patient Spirit still tops boon prot. Even in PvE I wouldn't necessarily run a pure prot bar. I'd probably opt for two Heal/prot hybrids. That's just me, though. My idea of healing is PvE is N/Rts lol.

I've played on my monk a bit since the update, doing the various pve zaishen quests, and so far I have not seen another boon prot monk. I did do a dungeon with a SoR prot guy while using my boon prot monk, which worked well, but for the most part everyone is either doing HB + 5 heals + heal party + rebirth or WoH + 4 weak heals + heal party + rebirth + GoLE.

It's a fun alternative to woh+prots, but I'm not sure if it's really better, because I haven't tried to use a normal woh build with selfless spirit yet.

Yeah if you read it again, I'm saying that boon prots will never take the place of any other bar in the current gvg/ha meta. I never, ever, once said prots are useless in GvG and Ha, and I would have indeed been retarded had I had said that.

I was running boon prot before they took away the 2 energy and made it 1, this just adds to it...and makes it a bit easier to e-manage...its a fun bar to run..run it all the time in RA, and as far as PvE goes, illl stick to my SoR bar

It should be interesting to see if it catches on.
My biggest concern is that heroes do not suck with it. They REALLY suck with it. So I am intrigued if we'll be able to see past that abysmal performance when evaluating the build.
My guess is that people will try it on heroes, continuously die, and just conclude that it's the biggest pile of shit ever.

The -1 energy doesn't change the effectiveness of the PvE Boon/Prot (read, you could always run it even after the nerfs). The 10 second recharge kills it in 8v8 formats.

Prot has always been great in PvE, but lately the heal/prot hybrid was mostly outclassing (and by far more popular than) the 14-spec prot monk. The buffs to Boon and Selfless Spirit might actually give us a chance to run full prot in general PvE.

I assume the bars have divine boon, but what elite? I can see boon signet and life sheath are two good options. Do you run reversal or dismiss if you have life sheath? And what about for heroes (yes I know heroes aren't the greatest with prots but they aren't terrible)?

Old boon prot used to run an elite for e-mgmt, typically going /Me for Mantra of Recall. After several nerfs to the build it fell out of favor.

See this thread for current boon prot builds.

I'd avoid running it on heroes since they can't use selfless spirit and are pretty poor at using prots.
