Default Monk build challenge

first off I'm not sure if this fit in the campfire rules but I find it in somewhat of a gray area

It's fine. There's never been a 'no build posting threads' rule, just a 'don't be lazy' rule. They overlapped in 99% of cases which caused people to think there was some kind of 'don't ask for builds' rule. If you check the GCG now there isn't any issue at all. - Marty

Anyway, I love seeing creative builds for monk, and I'd like to see what everyone else can do. I'll judge builds on creativity, as well as how well I think the build works. However there are a few rules, no coping PvX builds, it has to be a good build for general use (not just one area), you have to be the builds maker, and most of all it has to be original, I know quite a few of these "creative" one of a kind builds so I'll probably know if you were the creator or not. Also any build will do for the most part, smiting, protting, healing, builds that only use divine favor (eg RP builds) ect.

To add extra motivation, I'll award the most creative/original build a sum of 5k

Some examples are
Healers covenant

Scribe's insight

Feel free to use this to post your build as well.

Edit: monk sets are also accepted (eg 2 builds that are made to work together)

Meh I'ma most a monk set I like using

Monk 1

Monk 2

Still working out some kinks in the build but over all works well enough in PvE.

That's the cleverest and freshest thing I've seen in the monk forums for a long time. Selfless Spirit + Healing Light to gain a tiny bit of energy each time you heal. The obvious tweak would be to add Air of Superiority to improve the uptime on Selfless Spirit.

I'm not sure how well this could compete with AP + Selfless Spirit, but you get points for the novel idea nontheless. If I were judging this thread, your post would probably be the winner.

sadly I cant give myself 5k. And tbh, you don't really need more E management with this build unless you're bad at protting. This is how the build started when I made it a few years ago.

Monk 1
Monk 2

The idea was to enchant the party and spam healing light and Dkiss, I liked the idea, and I've kept it. Over time I've realized you really dont need a lot of prot in PvE, and how well seeds work with PS and SoA. Selfless spirit I actually haven't started using till recently, depending on the monk Divine spirit also works nicely. The problem Is conditions, but I like keeping spotless on melee (they like it to) I may remove vigor for dismiss but meh its another enchantment to use for Dkiss and Healing light.

Another idea I had, mainly a goofing of build

Tele Healer

Haven't tested it yet, but it seems fun enough.

The point of this thread is original builds, not meta HB/UA crap with 6 heals and cure hex or Woh hybrid. I've been using those for years now, I'm tired of only seeing those builds.

Also As I said in the OP

It can be damage, healing, prot, w/e as long as its original

Heh, trust me to not read the instruction manual.

Anyway I made this to be used on a hero for use in DoA:
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Pv...e=&Go=Send+inn

If you use a human it could look something like this:
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Pv...e=&Go=Send+inn

And here's a monk tandem general purpose build for human players:

http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Pv...e=&Go=Send+inn
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Pv...e=&Go=Send+inn

You get the idea. Makes it more challenging for the monk anyway. All the skills can be swapped around depending on area, soa for sh, sp.bond for ps, dismiss/mend for draw etc.

Here's an unconventional build: The Water Priestess

Monk/Elementalist
Healing 10+1+1
Divine Favor 10+1
Water 11

Skills:
WoH
Patient Spirit
Sig of Rejuv
Vigorous Spirit (optional)
Ice Spear
Conjure Frost
Water Attunement
Res Chant (optional)

Not tested in HM. Requires a water staff or wand. Basically it's a build I play when I'm monking in PvE so I can help out with healing and add in a little extra damage as well. When I H/H I add two monks and then focus on damage with wanding/ice spear and then help out with healing as I need to. Blurred Vision and Frigid Armor make good alternate skills.

Do hero builds count?
High Cost Hero Spam
This is my HM prot monk I took through all of Legendary Guardian. She out performed all the NRts and UA heroes.
The idea is pretty obvious, anything can be the spell after auspicious incantation and will give reasonable returns as well as not being too horribly hindered by the added recharge. Heroes use Ether Sig and interrupts fantastically. Then the AI freely does what it knows best: spams. Give them a +2 prot rune on their headpiece. Prot set, +20% ench staff ideal.
Variant: Mending Touch or Blessed Aura over Spirit Bond.

[edit] this might be a long read, but I want to take the chance to explain this in detail, since I haven't done that anytime before (and I don't know if I'll play gw ever again, so this is my legacy, I guess :P) [/edit]

I'm bumping this thread as I like the OP's idea of sharing creative monk builds.

Monking was always my passion and sometimes I've come up with some really unconventional yet effective builds. The most successful one was actually a gvg-backline my guild played about a year ago. At that time we did slightly better with that "custom" backline than using standard WoH/RC-templates, which was quite surprising...

Well anyway, here it is:

My Partner (usually WoH-monk)
Reversal of Fortune
Restore Condition [E]
Gift of Health
Holy Veil
Shield of Absorption
Protective Spirit
Aegis (PvP)
Glyph of Lesser Energy

Me (usually some kind of prot-monk, lol)
Aura of Faith [E]
Gift of Health
Guardian
Holy Veil
Dismiss Condition
Spirit Bond (PvP)
Aegis (PvP)
Glyph of Lesser Energy

The idea originated from the reworking of AoF. I wanted to use it in GvGs, but with a WoH-monk as partner we lacked the heavy condition-removal of RC, so I made up two GoH-hybrid-builds similar to BL-Mo/A-templates which were popular during the factions-metagame.

With a 14/10/10 or 14/11/9 spec on both monks you have great aegis-uptime and you can use all common prot-skills with their maximum efficiency. Of course there were complaints as this backline "obviously lacks healing". In "normal" 8vs8 Situations this was proven false: Two copies of GoH + RC can pump out enough healing if you preprot well (which is challenging but possible). Many balanced- or spike-teams use enough conditions for RC even surpassing WoH in many cases.
I have to admit that certain split-situations gave us problems because the first monk cannot heal himself properly. We had him stay with our flagger if we were forced to split up the two monks, which kinda worked out.

The situation where this backline really shines is against mixed-spikes that were fairly common at that time. Heavy and frequent spikes can put a lot of pressure on your backline's energy management. Oftentimes each monk needs to spend about 10-15 energy to catch and undo one spike.
With this backline you can catch many spikes with just AoF followed by RC. AoF halves all incoming damage and boosts all incoming healing, so RC almost always fully recovers the spike-target.

Another positive side-effect: Enemy mesmers often did not know what to go after. Usually RC is used by the single prot-monk, so most of the time my partner had to fight with pblock and other nasty interrupts, which gave me enough room to catch spikes and pre-prot against warriors. Some mesmers even interrupted GoH constantly assuming this skill would keep the team alive.

When I look back now, this was a really enjoyable time. I don't want to claim this is superior to typical WoH + prot backlines, but it may be a fun mix-up from time to time.
Let me hear what you guys think about it

This looks pretty good although I would disciplined stance or shield stance instead of bonetti's.

JD Healers Covenant looks pretty good as well different anyway.
