Since mesmers are the most powerfull beings in GW, no i dont think there dying. The only problem is there arent that many of us "Mesmer Addicts".
But with skills like "power block" we will soon rise, as before, to make both warriors and casters cry, as they never cried before! BTW necro + mesmer degen builds are starting to see more and more use.

Had a pug leader looking for a mesmer, he went through 2 cycles of english/german/france/etc, before he decided to settle for a necro. I was already in that party, as mesmer.

There's a quest in nightfall called Desperate Measures, which is virually impossible to do without a mesmer shutting down the skree healers.
With no mesmers around, I had to retool an Ele hero to do mesmer shutdown skills.

Power Block interrupts spells only.

Did he mean Psychic Distraction? Power Block is pathetic, in my opinion.

Perhaps, but a well put skill is never pathetic in battle because every skill has their own way to use it and a good thing to play one side to another to make things interesting. That was my opinion thought. I just say that to do not argue like Hell between skills (not here nowbut later IF this thread continues long enough and no control on that).
Anyway, a core profession will never die in GW. Never! It is hard to believe that.

I used Power Block on my roomate and he fell asleep.
I guess whatever he was doing was related to everything he does except sleeping.

Heroes using interrupts is another thing... Gosh those suckers are good. I just love how they can inter RoF in the beginning of the cast. Like the thing doesnt even get half cast. 1/4s skill! Heroes are the bomb with inters.

Thats funny, why do you think that ritualists will die?
There are few spiritors(yeah, only few).
OMG your right! Ritualist are deing out!!!!
I just cant get it, that blood song always shutted down me :S
But really, mesmers have the same chance of deing out as ritualists...
We need to find some good mesmer farming builds to keep it alive :P
Ritualists are deing because they were like "Teh Farming Tool".
And now... (you all know it lol)

So what do you think the statistics are for the core professions, considering the advice given to a new player?
warrior - 30% - This prof is a no-brainer
monk - 30% - Everybody wants you in their group
ranger - 15% - You get a pet!
necro - 13% - MINIONS
ele - 10% - FIRE spells
mesmer - 2% - You don't want one of those. No one will invite you.
Well, I started a poll in Riverside. We'll see how many first character mesmers we get.
_______________
Check out the poll. My guesses are way off.

Mine first was a mesmer, just because the proffesion "felt" cool, and it's still the most enjoiable one for me

My first character was a mesmer, and he's still spreading chaos. I started with a mesmer for two reasons - firstly, I like they way they look. They have a certain flair to them that I find the other professions lack. And secondly, I had heard rumors that the mesmer was the most challenging profession to play and I wanted the challenge.
I also disagree with the point made that ritualists might die. They may have been nerfed a bit but they're still invaluable support characters who can do a really great job. I've recently picked up my ritualist again and started working on new builds, but that's something for discussion elsewhere.
No profession will ever die out. They all have their place somewhere and as the metagame keeps evolving, the less used professions all get their fair share of the limelight.

Me is my 2nd char. 1st was Necro. And I have never ever EVER had a problem finding a group as a Me. I'm either lucky, or good at selling myself. *shrug*

I've been okay in getting groups as well.
My problem is I'm not sure I'm doing the best job I can, and I don't want to give the profession a bad name.
I'm going to keep practicing until I am a lot more confident before I start joining PUGs anymore.
I think it is for the best!

Yea, I never really had any problems finding a group myself. I'm sure I was discriminated against a couple times when on my mesmer, but it never really interfered with finding a group. I honestly have more trouble finding a group on my ranger, but that is largely due to the increased competition in rangers looking for groups. Mesmers in PvE are relatively rare.
