Ineptitude + Clumsiness. If you want to run damage I wouldn't run mesmer.

You are in the wrong place to ask.

Yeah, Illusion have like 15 ways to hurt martial attackers, most of them are "next attack" type of spells too, so you don't need to actively interrupt.
anonymous is right, start with Inept + Clumsi and pile on more hurt.

At least tell them where to go
The Campfire section is the place to ask about builds and whatnot. Here's a link. You'll probably get a little more help there.

Domination is more potent for damage, or at least has been in my experience. I'm not sure what Illusion is best at, so I gave it to my second mesmer - she's working it up now, and I'll know in maybe a month or so if I can find a build there that is anywhere near as good as my dominatrix.
On 'another GW forum website' I posted the same question. Not sure if this site has a silly rule against linking to other fan sites - one of the two forums does and I can't recall which one it was... But if you know where the other fan forum is, you can find my thread.
Maybe I'll repeat it in the mesmer forums here to see if people here (who are the same people as there) magically have a different opinion.

As far as I know, Guru doesn't care if you link to other fansites. And I think Illusion is better for degen purposes, especially with stuff like [skill]conjure phantasm[/skill][skill]conjure nightmare[/skill][skill]phantom pain[/skill]

Conjure nightmare sucks 25 e for -8 degen -.-
He can easily go melee hate and throw in some degen like phantom pain, phantasm and images for cover hexes

Illusion offers a LOT of nice options. Degen is what most people think of, and it is there, but it is not what I enjoy most about illusion. Although some of these are not direct damage, look into skills like these for damage:
[skill]Ineptitude[/skill][skill]Clumsiness[/skill][skill]Signet of Clumsiness[/skill][skill]Accumulated Pain[/skill][skill]Fragility[/skill][skill]Wandering Eye[/skill][skill]Images of Remorse[/skill]
And my favorite part about illusion, is it offers some utility skills. These are skills that help the team out in various ways, some allow for more damage to be dealt.
[skill]Arcane Conundrum[/skill][skill]Frustration[/skill][skill]Sum of All Fears[/skill][skill]Shrinking Armor[/skill][skill]Sympathetic Visage[/skill][skill]Ancestor's Visage[/skill][skill]Confusing Images[/skill][skill]Migraine[/skill]
There are also a few slow hexes, and those can serve a team well depending on what you face and are trying to do. Arcane Conundrum is an interrupters best friend, so any Ranger will be glad you use it, and your interrupts will be much easier too. I almost always take an Inspiration interrupt to help with energy unless I am running Domination.
But as mentioned, Ineptitude and Clumsiness are easy to use, and highly effective.

oooohh, mesmers.
Glad you asked.. Enjoy!
[skill]Signet of Illusions[/skill][skill]Maelstrom[/skill][skill]Auspicious Incantation[/skill][skill]Conjure Phantasm[/skill][skill]clumsiness[/skill][skill]Frustration[/skill]
The last two skills are optional, but I recommend [wiki]Cry of Pain[/wiki] and [skill]Kitah's Burden[/skill] or it's sister skill [skill]Ethereal Burden[/skill]
Oh, btw, the secret of this build is to use Maelstrom on a caster that has Frustration on them, and one that spams spells frequently such as a monk. Kitah's Burden works nicely because it is good energy management and acts as a snare for Maelstrom. Each time Maelstrom interrupts them, they take 47 dmg or so, in addition to the 28 or so from Maelstrom. Tears caster spammers apart. Clumsiness is for those pesky melee. Again, use frustration to increase your dmg by 47 per clumsiness, which should be 130ish per each time clumsiness triggers. Conjure Phantasm is a great basic degen skill, but Shrinking armor is a bit better because it is so much cheaper. If you have GW:EN, use shrinking. Cry of Pain goes with Phantasm/Shrinking. Signet of Illusions gives you 16 in everything you use. So use it before Maelstrom, cast Auspicious, then Maelstrom, which will leave you at full energy. Use that combo when you are at approx 27-35 energy, and you will refill your bar totally.
