I would say it is worth it to make a Mesmer, even in PVE. My PvE Mesmer does a lot more damage than my Searing Flames nuker, of course in order to do more damage you can't just go by wiki and you actually have to be creative. Since no one here really is creative and just play the game off wiki they do not understand that.
