As I mentioned earlier

Dark escape is a good skill for IW ½ damage for 13 seconds is not bad plus the speed boost for the kiting targets

Use Degen instead of IW for the bosses if you plan on using Amity or Pacifism... Degen isn't counted as "damage" and goes right through. Cast up the hexes before you cast Pacifism though...

It still works in some cases, but to a way lesser extent (like you can still farm HM Wardens (Arborstone, which, by the way, drop a lot of gold runes) or Heket (Barbarous Shore)), Just add [skill]Glyph of Elemental Power[/skill] and it works fine for those cases, however, it is unable to farm most of what it could before.

actually, I did very often in the past, and sometimes do now, farm bosses with a 55 Mesmer using IW.

IW is good, but at the same time, fails in comparison with other builds.
Think about it.
40 dmg every second(IW) vs 100+ damage every second+aoe damage(Critical scythe)
Point proven.
It does bypass the "ends when you attack" skills though.

Keep this in mind when making you IW Mesmer, Dervishes can attack up to three targets with their sycthe, but have slower speed, making them a great PvE solo super mob 55 or some other super tank.

It's a misconception that daggers are better than swords with their double hit chance. Swords gain the ability to have flurry, which is basically a double chance anyways. You can also equip a shield

No, the reason why daggers are bad is because you lose your shield. You can still use daggers if you're Me/W, but if you have a sword you can get at least an extra 8AL.

i use an IW build like this. it's used in general pve. i also have a farming one but it is pretty bad so i won't post it

illusionary weoponry
conjure phatom
shrinking armor
shatter enchantment
blackout
variable
variable
variable (flurry, res, ether feast, or other.)

it kills monks and high armor warriors alike in under 20 seconds. use them in that order. conjure and shrinking armor deal 18 a second and iw does like 36 per 1.8 second i belive. they can't heal due to blackout. also works well with spikes if you want to try pvp with

By the way, cracked armor from shrinking armor wouldn't help IW damage.

Illusionary Weapon
blackout
empathy
backfire
sliver armor
armor of earth
stoneflesh armor
gylph of lesser energy

it isn't really efective to spike but it is great for pressure, and to blackout monks and the such. using blackout is one of my fav things to do lately

i wish it lasted longer though, have to get up there in domination to get it to match with your 5 seconds

It's definitely PvE only. Such a mesmer in PvP will get trashed unless you're in AB. It's a really fun build though. Make sure you have a monk to keep you protected as 60 AL isn't fun.

You are using Illusion, Domination, Earth Magic and Fast Casting? You know that either pure Domination would be more pressure and pure/Domination + Illusion would be more dmg? And Auspicious Incantation >>>> GoLE on Mesmer.

no fast casting, atributes are illusion @ 15, domination @ 11, and earth @ 10. you have to remember that with auspicious you have to have the energy to spend before hand, with gole you need 5 to get two spells free as long as they are 10 or under. also it doesnt add to the cooldown of the spells which is why i like it better. also i don't need points in inspiration

i'm aware, but it's not a solo, so it still heals as general pve, and spike support.

And is Flurry still the best choice for IW nowadays? I rather take Heart of Fury with a Dervish secondary. At level 0 mysticism, it lasts as long as Flurry, and 1 second of burning when the enchantment ends. It also serves as a cover enchant to protect your IW from being stripped.
