Reasons to play a Mesmer
Hey all
I have always wanted to play a mesmer. But I am more of a direct damage kind of player, thus my favourite few characters are warrior, paragon, rangers, eles etc.
I have 9 character slots, all of those are filled with lvl 20s, that are rather geared up (15k armor etc). So if I am to create a mesmer, I will have to delete one of those.
Just wondering, for those who have a mesmer character, what keeps you going? Is it the builds that are powerful? Armor that are dazzling? or ...
Oh btw, I am a Pver ... and yeah I know, mesmer shines in pvp

I'm in the same boat as you really, i prefer melee combat or ranged physical damage, but would like a mesmer. So any points put forwards will be taken in by me.
I guess it's the armor ignoring damage, shutdown (though PvE mobs just cast right through stuff) And the cool armor sets.

I picked a mesmer because i needed a challenge in GW, not only just getting into groups but proving that *gasp* yes they are useful
But yes, female mesmer armor is pretty great ^^
Although i switched my focus from my mesmer to my ele [need farming gold] which was where i thought the mesmer lacked, but hey if you got money then that shouldn't be a problem... I started mine in Prof btw
Good luck, have fun

I'm a pve-er too, and Me was my 2nd char (after Mo).
Since then I have had all level 20 profs except ritualist.
Reasons to play for pure pve:
- cool looks and armor sets
- "%/!+=" chat bubble above enemies' head when you use cry of frustration
- different approach and play style
Mesmer is still one of my favorite chars, but her potential is significantly harder
to utilize in normal pve enviroment, where your opponents prefer to rush in
big numbers and without clever skill usage or tactics.
That's my humble oppinion.

I started one because:
a) they had cool armor;
b) shut downs;
and c) it required me to really learn the game!
I learned more about GW by playing my Mesmer than any other character I have. (8 slots filled - no Monk, no Warrior.) I learned the imortance of proper pulling, as well as timing and skills vs. spells, etc. Plus, they can just be fun to play! A Simple Thief build doesn't do much damage, but it can be really fun to steal enemy skills and spells and then watch your H&H wipe them out.
(I also do only PvE.)

I find that being a mesmer is a lot less forgiving if you make mistakes (missing an interrupt, casting the wrong type of hex on an enemy) than other classes, so it keeps me on my toes a lot. PvE is quite repetitive for me, so i like the fact i have to think about what im doing and who im targetting rather than just finding a mob and charging in.
Another thing that keeps mesmers interesting is the variety in builds, the way they force you to think about the skills you bring rather than just sticking with one build to wipe through 3 continents.

i love mesmers cause there is nothing like dealing armour ignoring dmg, or high degen to bosses and the like that most professions just cant hurt in the same way
for pve obviously u may think they would struggle as they are mostly used to shut down 1 person, not mobs, but there are a few useful mob skills out there, clusminess, fevoured dreams etc.
i just enjoy them because they are so different, and so adaptable.
the 1 class i cant do without in my character selection screen

My reasons
1. I love the challenge
2. I love watching things kill themselves
3. I love disrupting skills then doing again a few seconds later (more satisfing in PVP then in PVE )
4. Runes are cheap
5. I love being able to calculate a group of enemies. Knowing that I can hex a warrior and still be able to nail a caster with a disrupt before they get there 1st spell off.
6. Hex spamming is good fun
7. Armor is really nice looking
8. Everyone except a few say they suck, and my job is to make sure they dont
9. I love in PVE being able to cycle thru targets casting hexes and degeneration knowing my hex will still kill them when they are at 25% health Etc..
10. New slot is 10.00 (and you should have one for each character )
P.S. Yes I can Nuke like a elemenatlist if i choose and if I do you will die faster then by a elementalist Guaranteed

I like mesmers because they can play a lot of typical PvE archtypes because of Fast Casting, and play them well. They can heal, nuke, play a cro SS hexer build, etc etc. And, with Signet of Illusions (haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure it'd work) you can get lvl 16 PvE spells =D I also like the armor they have.
BTW, Don't delete a character slot to make a new character, slots are only $10 in the store, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Gl
P.S. Mesmer stances are featured prominently in some Ursan builds, so you may have a leg up because you can mod an armor set to make them more effective.

The skills.
Sure a lot of them sucks in PvE - but in how many games did we even get the option to use such interesting skills as
[skill]Blackout[/skill] [skill]Arcane Languor[/skill] [skill]Diversion[/skill] [skill]Wastrel's Worry[/skill] [skill]Clumsiness[/skill] [skill]Ether Lord[/skill] [skill]Power Leech[/skill] [skill]Spirit Shackles[/skill] [skill]Power Leak[/skill]?

i like mes cause they can do quite a bit of things.
i mean if you really are ever so bored you can run IW mes for fun.
or if you are lazy and just wanna c space through areas.
or iff yyou wanna lock thigns down then run that and laugh as bosses sit there being useless.

Mesmer is the first class i take in GUild wars.i play other characters now and then.but i always come back to my Mesmer.Who says Mesmer is for Pvp.i can counter a group of warriors.blind them..all and still backfire and mistrust a group of Target .....Mesmer lets u leave a mark on a target(empathy/spirit shackles on a warrior) and let u leave another mark on another target(backfire/Guild on a caster).u don have to just stick to one enemy....
heres some of the good reason for playing a mesmer:
1)they got the most signets.
2)Fast casting is addictive!
3)DOmination spells provides more direct damage..Illsuion Lessen targets ability.inspirtation protect u if they ever get to u...(u actually get to plan really well here)
4)REally awesome ARMOUR!!!
5)try out as a supporting FAST casting Monk/elem/necro...etc
6)Signet of Illsuion :The signet that allows u to actually really combine a few spells u always wanted at full attribute!
7)Rez ur allies really fast in the mist of a tough fight!
Its pretty tricky and actually take u some time to learn soem of the COmbo....mesmer's skills arent all direct hit dammage.u got to actually use ur brain more so than other Profession, its challening. When we play a Game isnt that what we always looking for?
In the end since theres ppl out there who are still skeptical about mesmers in their Group during a hunt or mission.....as a fellow mesmer ..ALways always try hard to impress with ur actual tactical skills.
Be Tactful!
JOIN the Mesmer!
The Mesmer CLAN Need U!! (pointing finger at u)

I PvE and I tend to get bored of lazy builds, so a lot you can do with a mesmer takes a lot of paying attention. They also have some good looking armor. The damage that gets around armor is nice at times, too.

If you are after a skill hunter title, it is best to have it on your mesmers because a mesmer can make better use of other skills due to Signet of Illusions.
If you are a Naruto fan, you would know what I mean when I say a mesmer is a GenJutsu expert. And Signet of Illusions with Arcane thievery, inspired hex, etc. is your Sharingan.
