Could you mind telling me what a monk and necro offers for a mesmer? Also if so, what good builds are there for it that is only limited to prophecies?

Monk - offers healing and a resuable rez. Has a little use against undead which you will see later on.
Necro - offers more hexes, but you don't have SR to power them.

I went Mes/Ele for mine, works quite well.
I hope your interest for this profession continues as it's one of the most challenging and rewarding professions in the game. Most people don't know how to play it though so it's difficult to find groups sometimes due to the general stigma associated with this profession.
There's stigmas associated with every prof but most people always assume that the mes and sin are either terrible or the person playing is a noob. Ignore these people and explore your profession thoroughly.
The same stigma is there for monks as there's never any thanks for success and always criticism for failure.
basically my advice is roll what you know. If you understand the mechanics of one profession, go with it. Necro, monk and ele are all good for mes but you can use any as a secondary. Find what works for the part of the game you're playing. You can always change your secondary once you've reached the necessary point in the game.

Pick any caster secondary you like, any will benefit a mesmer. But don't make a Me/E and play as a nuker through the entire game. You'll never get the real experience of a mesmer if you just rely on your secondary for the fun.

Have you tried out ALL the secondary classes.
Its obvious but I am surprised by the number of people who just pick one and go with it instead of trying them all out.
Its pretty important in Prophesies to get a secondary your happy with because its a long way into the game before you can change it.
I would probably go Monk.
Its always handy to heal yourself and the mesmer healing skills depend on having an enemy to cast them on.
A number of times a combat has ended with me low on health and still under a life draining skill.

You can go fast casting Necro or Ele with good results but I would advise really playing the mes, and trying not to just use your secondary from your secondary
Mo, Ele, or nec will all do fine, War and Ranger are trash secondary.

Personally I went Me/E - but there were many times when I was learning that I would have paid great money to have a hard res in a mission. Depending on your experience level I'd probably suggest Me/Mo.

Me/N is obviously ur best choice atm if ur only using proph. if u go Me/Mo ull spend to much time learning how to heal urself when its really not necissary due to lack of challenges in proph.

Going necro means you have access to some insanely sweet curses in the form of Enfeebling Blood and Shadow Of Fear.
Going ele means you have access to some sweet damage (and then after ele damage starts sucking you get the option to change secondaries), some sweet e-management (GoLE) and access to some very sweet defense (Ward Against Melee, Ward against Foes, Deep Freeze).
Since curses won't REALLY but that effective until later in the game - I'd go with ele and get a bunch of ele skills for free - and then switch to necro later on if you don't fall in love with GoLE.
Having said that - my mesmers ALWAYS go Me/N.
Personally that the only way I can create a mesmer. Even though going ele would be the better option (you get more better skills for free that way and I am super cheap so it sounds like a match made in heaven ) - I can't bring myself to play that way. (That is until I can chance to /A ... )
