I've had a break from GW for a while, but returned recently. Last night I was vanquishing and doing the Shiro's Return(HM) book together with a friend that played Dervish. We were laughing at all the noobs (yes, this is a personal attack) who thinks that Mesmers suck in PvE.
Today I thought I should check gwguru if anyone had figured out any new builds, but nothing has changed in the past 6 months it seems, I clicked my way to this forum and as usual I find some Wammo (gotta be one, anyway) saying that Mesmers don't deal any dmg in PvE. Lol? I can't stand playing other classes in HM because of their lack of dmg and fastcasting. There's no use arguing with idiots, so I'll just post my current build here.
By the way, I'm a 100% PvE Mesmer (done like 10 ABs though) and have played it for 1400 hours, call me a noob or anything, I don't care, Mesmers will still rock in PvE. Now, HM is the place where we do most good, if you think Mesmers are bad in low-lvl areas such as Kourna, play HM.

I won't call you a noob. But a moron.
Seriously, that much arrogance combined with an obvious lack of game knowledge (ok, I just called you a noob ...) makes me want to punch people.
Yes you are right, Mesmers are awesome. No you are wrong, your build is medicore at best and you fail as much as any other wannabe-pro.
Shooshus build is nice, but I'd like some energy management in there. But generally, [[Wandering Eye] + [[Clumsiness] is win in PvE since even the casters attack with their wands all the time, triggering the effect. With [[Cry of Pain] we have 3 spells with 100 armor ignoring area of effect damage each and a low recharge. As much as I like [[Visions of Regret], it just can't compete with that.

You've got two AoE spells there, not three I'm sure if we did a DPS test, the difference between the builds wouldn't be big.
The intro is rather arrogant, but I'm so tired of all the ppl who keep saying that mesmers suck in PvE etc etc, not to mention the elitist attitude that is so common around here, "all builds except for the best one suck". That makes me want to punch ppl. I usually stay quiet, because I don't have enough knowledge to join the discussions and actually contribute, but just this once I felt like posting what's on my mind. Obviously it wasn't really worth it. (do I sound emo now?)
I leave nuking to eles, while I do the spiking. And yes, lack of playing for the last 2 years have put me in a position where I'm not aware of all the latest skills, builds and whatever happened in GW. I didn't say that mine is the best build or anything like that, just that it works very well. Back in the days I used an echo ineptitude clumsiness build, but left it for domination magic, because I dealt more dmg using that. And I found it more fun. Fun is what games are about, and GW is a game. I hope there is at the very least one person out there who saw this thread and liked the build
Anyway, I'm taking a break from GW again... Learning programming really is more fun.

This applies when setting up a party with real players, since you wont be the only cryer on the team. But in general exploring with henchment and/or heroes?
No. Empathy, Backfire and VoR are the best things mesmers can offer in Hard Mode (there may be other spells for example, but these are an example). Increased skill useage and attack speed tears enemies completely to shreds (or rather lets them do it themselves).
There's little or no waiting involved. The same reason why Spiteful Spirit is still one of the most fantastic hexes to use in HardMode PvE. Fire and forget is most deffinately the way to go, although it may be more passive for may peoples tastes.
The only reason that Cryway parties work is the instance they're used in. They have a stable 'tank'. A simple person in a party running a CoP based build is serverely flawed, in the sense that in hard mode, a few burst of 100 damage AoE really wont make much of a difference at all. This is fact, not oppinion.
This is due to clear energy limitations and the distance between casts, even when echoed. There is no real smooth way you can run a Cryer build and have a steady DPS and energy source, as a single damage output, and avoid un-co ordinated spikes that will simply get healed out by any hardmore healing units (which is specficially why Cryway works so well, which, again, reqires at least 4 people to gain a complete advantage over groups, as well as a tank.)
Again, using a multitude of hexes such as the ones listed are not also straightforward, but allow you to take the matter into your hands moreso than you ever would running a cryer build. In hardmode, particular units DO need to be handled singularly (see any of the Kournan Healers for example). Just as in various areas of PvP, you must, in situations, be able to apply a steady amount of pressure to multiple units, in turn, pressuring a support unit, diminishing their overall effectiveness and creating opportunites for a kill.
Sure, cryway uses the rule of playing mesmers effectively, being, not pressuing a single target (a mistake commonly made when running a typical interruption bar), but Cry of Pain is hardly pressure for a HardMode enemy group, at all.
For those people with the whole tl:dr thing~
Thats the point of mesmers in the end though. Sure, the skills available are very conditonal, but they're the only class that can take full advantage of the conditions presented to them. Cry of Pain does not, in use by too few party members, follow this concept. CoP is not only not conditional (which, yes, can be a good thing), but it also does not open any other options for counters, like a simple VoR, Empathy of Backfire would.
Call me oldschool, but in the end, leave it to the Elementalists to blow shit up (which, ironically also doesnt work well in HardMode :I)

Pwny - meet PvE only skills.
PvE only skills - meet Pwny.
There are going to VERY rare occasions where you won't be able to just nuke the hell out of your target. And for those cases - I'd grab something like SV.
I don't see how a couple of Discords + FH! won't take most things down in seconds. There is no point in waiting for the foes to kill themselves when you can just do that job for them.

@Pwny Ride:
I use a CoP build by myself with heroes when vanquishing and it's doing pretty good. But that also depends on the rest of the heroes' builds. Unless you are doing DOA or UW there is no need for taking Cop on 4 people.

kostolomac, VoR damages the foes whatever skills they use and it's AoE. The chance that none of the hexed foes would use any skills is extremely low. As for Empathy and Backfire, spellcasters always cast spells(unless their hp is below 140, then they won't cast to avoid dying by Backfire) and warriors/assas/rangers/etc attacks until they die. To me these skills are less conditional than Assassin dual strikes.

Bring +15/-1 energy gear, then you do not need to worry about having 10-15 energy as much. Couple that with a high costing spell, and you can spike your energy to almost full in a few seconds, and you are ready to keep on casting :-) AI is great, and Mesmers are great!
