If there's anything i've ever learnt playing online games or even regular RPG's, you need to play a build you enjoy.

If you want to use IW do it, whether it's better than x build is irrelevant. For basic PvE stuff your not harming anybody by using a build that isn't 'the best' especially if you just use heroes (which is more than likely in GW these days).

I wouldn't suggest doing endgame stuff because being the weak link effects your team mates.

I've played games over the years (including GW) and seen people with inferior or outdated builds wipe the floor with superior builds/gear simply because the old or inferior build has a guy behind the charcater who's hell bent on proving his build can cut it with the other guys. Effort and hard work > build EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Paying attention to the game and your team mates is priceless and it's a skill very few people can master. Playing a Mesmer is definetly a good way to learn that skill (regardless of build).
