Elementalist/Mesmer : Some help Needed :)
Hi. I am playing a Elementalist/Mesmer Character (my first character) . I use Fire/Inspration but i dont think it is a good choice ( i am playing like this because i dont have enough skills yet). I will use Fire, but i am not sure what to select for Mesmer: Illusion/Inspiration?.
It will be a PvE and PvP character, so it must be effective in both ways.
I will need energy, and it is in Inspiration ( Channeling, Energy Tap, Energy Drain), but i also need good combo for max damage which is in inspiration (Fevered Dreams, Fragility).
Also i am thinking about Arcane Echo but i dont really know how it works (i dont have yet that skill) when i use my fire skills (such as with Meteor Shower, inferno, obsidian flame).
As i said i want the most damage i can make to multiple foes. Some one should show me the way . Thanks.

well, foes now run away from EoE spells, and from own experience i can say arcane echo is realy not worth it, by the time you get it all goin your mob is dead anyway.
i usually stick to air (powerfull vs one target, very usefull in the higher missions) but i've also tryed fire (before the update) and earth
basically, now, you want skills that inflict damage, massive damage, but not over time in one area (like firestorm or meteor shower)
for a fire ele, i'd say :
immolate (spam skill) - fireball (vs small groups) - Rodgort's Invocation (vs small - large groups) - meteor (knockdown) - phoenix (usefull when melee is near you and casters are far away) - Glyph of Energy (energy management, copes with exhaustion) - Energy Tap (energy management, in case you need some fast) - Res signet
you can replace Glyph of Energy with Energy Drain and Energy Tap with Fire attunement

For inspiration, other skills to consider are Mantra of Resolve for interrupts, and Inspired Hex and Drain Enchantment for both energy management and the control of hexes/enchantments.
Don't try to get damage from your Illusion spells; there's no point in splitting your damage across two attribute lines when you've got perfectly good damage sources in Fire. You might try Elemental Attunement instead of Glyph of Energy as well.

Avoiding exhaustion in pve is far more important then energy management, so glyph of energy is better than elemental attunement.
To the OP, don't try and make your pve character effective at pvp as well unless you have time to buy two sets of equipment, armor, and runes.
Fire is not effective in pvp, except in very situational circumstances in tombs and GvG (in which water would probably do the trick better). Earth, air, and water are all more viable in pvp then pve, so just unlock those skills, don't bother getting runes/wands/etc... for them, and make a throwaway pvp character using one of those lines instead of fire when you get the urge to pvp.

Thanks for your answers.
As i understand, Fire is better for PvE but not good at PvP because it mostly deals area effect damage, and it is not that hadr to escape from these spells. And foes in PvE are also escaping most of the time.
I think i will turn to Air or Earth in the future (when i get enough skills for it, i will get many skills for Lions Arch i think) because it also get harder for me to move alone (or with some henchmens) in PvE.
