My problem with a lot of eles is that they tend to discount the benefits of a 2nd profession, believing that starting with a massive energy load and a few energy "savers" during a battle is enough for them to trigger out big damage skills (or whatever) to keep it all happy and merry for them.
Has an ele every considered running channeling? energy tap? melandru's resistance? victory is mine? Ah, you see where I'm coming from now.
What if you went E/R and packed winter to make you a more formidable foe.
How about the awesomeness of spinal shivers. Or go bam with defile flesh. Ah the much underused leech signet, the love of spirit of failure, or the ever lovely arcane mimicry.
So in summary, I've really written a whole bunch of dribble. Listen to someone else. I barely know how to spell, and I eat vegemite (that's right, vegemite!)

Feast of Corruption takes too long to do much of anything. It's a decent spike skill for once a mob, and that's about it. Blurred Vision+Spirit of Failure is hot though.

i was thinkig of bring echo but the glyphs seemed a better for nrg
and the point of this build is to slow down the enime so other fire eles can nuke, but at the same time Maelstrom them myself.
guess i should of mentioned that
and if i were ranger i would mostlikrly ake on of these Energizing Wind, Quickening Zephyr

For water ele you probably want double attunements so you can run under qz, use AoE hex snares(ice spikes, deep freeze, ect)

I did a E/N Water/FoC build a few days ago. FoC's recycle is painfully slow to afford any serious use, and it is an elite. This is PvP that I used it in. I eventually went back to Spear Spam with utility, though I seriously missed watching Warriors sucking on 9 second Healing Signets and monk sucking on 9 second Blessed Signets (Rust was wonderful).

Best way to increase your build's profitiency is to test different combonations out.
The more knowledgable you are about the game, the better you are at playing it.

Water Trident is king.
Without it Water Eles are rather lackluster in my opinion.

Most of these suggestions are not particularly usefull.
And the idea of running the 2 spirits is just silly. Without mass points in Wilderness and beast they won't last very long, and they take a LONG time to set up.
I'd suggest Crip. Anguish, and possibly Arcane Echo, with the echo target being Maelstrom in most cases.
I wouldn't bother with any of the energy management skills from the Mes side, as that big energy pool really IS your best friend and mesmer energy management is rather situational at best.
You're spiking a single guy, from what you said. If you havn't killed him quickly, you're dead anyway. One thing medium level players do is get TOO fancy with their secondaries. They have learned a few combo's, so now they build EVERYTHING around this ideal setup, and actualy manage to have some success against subpar competition. When they face a higher level of opponent, only to have it interupted at a critical moment and rendered mostly useless, they usualy blame lag or some other gremlin.

I find water trident freaking sucks, wastes elite. Ice spear can do the same thing, but just closer. Also with maelstrom, never bother in pvp, it sucks just plain sucks trust me i've tried it a lot of times. You know stacking water hexes against warriors rocks also, since they're screwed with ice spikes, deep freeze, and ice prison. Water is more of a slow down, then finish off move. Also, rust ftw. Though imo, mind freeze is king. One more thing it's always fun being water ele, for after a while of slowing down the warriors, they come charging at you with like a fury.

really for water ele id go water trident instead of glyph of enegry becuase it always knocksdown the gusy if they runnig and in pvp if i cast on a monk when casting a spell they still fall down nad i thk it ignores armor and 3 sec reacharge makes it very valuable at 16 water it does 63 damag eand it ONLY COST 3 ENERGY OMFG its a very very good skill or just use ward against harm to help ur fellow companioins

Try using the key that's two spaces over from the letter "M". It's called a period. Mister Period, this is wat is my name. Wat is my name, this is Mister Period. I hope you become friends in the future.

Ehh, It's only CA mind you, but I put together a water E/N (the necro secondary just for kicks, didn't use any necro skills.)
Ice Spear
Blurred vision
Deep Freeze
Ice Spikes
Elemental Attunement
Water Attunement
Aura of Restoration
Res Sig
16 Water
13 energy Storage
Water Staff with +5 En and 20% enchant
I rocked quite a few peeps with my spear-spammer. deep Freeze and Spikes for a little dmg boost and slow, vision for warriors or rangers, spam spear till they're dead. 65 dmg a shot at AL 60...

Well I made a water elementalist after the fire aoe got nerfed. I thought it was pretty lackluster at first. Then I picked up water trident, and it was ok. Still not as good as my fire one though. (In my opinion). So using Water Trident, Ice Spear, Shard Storm, Ice Spikes, Deep Freeze, Armor of Mist, Glyph of Lesser Energy, and Rebirth I went to Sorrows Furnace using henchmen. I was successful, but still not happy with it. Energy was a problem. So I kept trying different skills, but energy management was the problem.
Then I realized that I was trying to pack to much damage into to little energy so people would see that water could do as much damage as fire. Fire is flashy, water isn’t. So back to the skill section I went. After looking at the skills it became apparent that water was more defensive than offensive. Sure it did damage, but the majority of them also slowed them down. Once I got that through my thick head I decided to make a water elementalist that would work.
So now I use Ice Spear (for up close and personal), Shard Storm (to slow them a little), Blurred Vision (so that foes have a 50% chance to miss with attack), Ward Against Harm (adds armor 63 against fire, 25 armor against other damage as long as they stay in the ward (elite), Glyph of Lesser Energy, Armor of Mist (just in case), Rebirth (for when things don’t go real well), and Water Attunement. Is it perfect? Probably not, and I’m sure that some people will say that if you use this, or that then it would be better, but I have been pretty successful with it.
I always tell the group that I am with that I am not a nuker. Mostly when I tell them what skills I am using they are ok with it. Although I did get kicked once because they just had to have a nuker. You don’t see many water elementalists out there. This is for PVE. I have 16 in Water Magic, and 12 in Energy Storage, and I use Flints Fleshcleaver.
