Default What's the best class combination with an Elementalist?

What's the best class combination with an Elementalist?

And if I choose a Ranger as a Second Profession, will I be able to have an animal companion?

And one more question, What does more damage, fire, water, earth or air?

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are starting from presearing, I would go monk as a secondary, just for the ocassional self heal or reusable res.

Once you can change secondaries, it all depends on where you are going and what you are doing. Farming? Tombs? UW? Lots of interrupters, lots of elemental dmg or physical?

I started as an E/M Pyro and almost never used my monk skills. Once I changed I mostly stick to E/Mes for Mantra of Resolve.

What do you mean, will I be able to get both or one, and will they last for 8-20 secs or they stay permenantly?

and if I should only choose one of them which one do you prefer?

I'm an E/R20 I use the following skills:
1. Fire Attunment
2. Quickening Zephyr
3. Glyph of Renewal (Elite)
4. Meteor Shower
5. Immolate
6. Fireball
7. Troll Ungent
8. Armor of Earth

I have 16 in Fire Magic, 7 in Earth, 7 in Wild Survival and the rest in Energy Storage. I feel its a great PvE build. If you don't want to go with Ranger, I would say that Mesmer is the second best.

What's the 20 for?

and how do I know where to get each skill from?

And by the way, I thought about it, And decided to put all skill points for the fire attribute and for the energy, and none for the other elementalist attributes, Is that good?

you can use both, but not at the same time since they are both Elites.

Mist Form for a water ele and Obsidian Flesh for an earth ele and you can keep them both up constantly with Serpents Quickness (Ranger skill)

you wont get those until later on in the game, since your asking here I would assume you are still in pre - theres a long way to go yet, I would probably go for Monk as a secondary, they also have a good res skill called Rebirth, dunno how I wouldve done without it in the early stages.

You can change profession once you reach the later levels (usually lvl20)

I would go E/me or E/mo if you don't have very much experience with an E/x. This is because they probably have the skills that augments an Ele primary the most. The E/R build is nice, but you will run into troubles with energy quite easily. On the other hand, an E/me will give you lots of energy management, and possibly a non-elite echo that will allow you to use an elite energy management skill. An E/mo also has quite a few skills that work, mostly spamable heals, since you will have such a huge energy supply. I'm not saying E/R can't work; it's just harder to if you're just starting.

Level 20.

You get most of those skills from quests and skill vendors as you go through the game. Glyph of Renewal you get by using what's called a "Signet of Capture" (kind of like enemy skill materia from ffvii).

Try out different builds. If you want to be a pyro, which is what I would suggest for n00bs to start with, try an animal companion to act as a "tank" (or shield) while you are casting your fire spells. That is probably the best pre build I came up with since most questing is done solo. I would keep your att points only spread out to 3 or so different things. For a while in pre I used Flare, Troll Ungent, Ignite Arrows, Comfort Animal, Charm Animal, Fire Storm, and maybe another bow skill or two. I worked really well but for Academy and Post I would switch it up to mainly a pyro build with troll ungent.

Air generally deals the most single-target damage, with every damage spell that I can think of carrying with it 25% armour penetration. Fire lacks the armour penetration of air and most mobs in the game seem to be resistant to it, giving you less damage but over a wider area (i.e. more mobs at once).

Earth has two 100% armour penetration spells. Obsidian Flame in particular, at 18 Earth hits for 130 damage to a single target.

Water lacks the damage of the other three in every case I can think of. It can be argued it exchanges higher damage for crowd control and utility.

Edit - Mesmer offers several useful skills that compliment the Elementalist profession well, with no attribute cost. Echo, Arcane Echo, Mantra of Concentration, and Physical Resistance are all viable with 0 Mesmer attributes. Taken further, the Inspiration line in particular augments the Elementalist well. Your mileage may vary.

As someone mentioned before - depends what you plan on doing.

If you are doing farms where there is a KEG involved (meaning you are going to be left alone to cast) ... You can pretty much use whatever secondary you want. I'd recommend Necro at that point, just to be able to have Spinal Shivers.

Otherwise, Ele/Me becomes necessary, just because Ele spells are so slow to cast, you need Mantra of Resolve to prevent interrupts.

I played Ele/Me, switched to Ele/Mo for a while, and am gravitating back to Ele/Me.

Ether Feast is a wonderful self-healer early in the game, because you don't need a lot of points in Inspiration for it to work.

Channeling is fun in some farming areas.

Early in the game you can also Backfire for the kill.

I soloed a lot as an Ele/Me.

What is farming and farms, I can't see any farms in the game

I'll probably go with Mesmer or Ranger.

go with mesmer - mostly beacuse any group you would want to get in will be asking for echo nuker (despite the obvious fact that echo is a worthless spell compared to glyph of renewal)

Farming is to get gold (and if UW and FoW, ectoplasm) by doing and redoing missions or just going outside town to kill mobs. For example, many people (I used to be included) used the Invinci-monk to solo (e.g. one-person-farm) Hydras outside Augury Rock.

For farming in early stages, I suggest Ranger. Afterwards, Monk.
