Default Lost faith in Elementalist: Help revive the faith!

Hi there,

A friend of mine, of which whome loves elementalist, has lost his faith with the nerfing of either prodigy and the AOE AI update. Also he read some stupid article that claimed they can't do as much damage as a warrior wailing away with an empty skill bar.

Anyhow I need your help to bring up well though, sound, and supported conversation proving that elementalist is an integral part of the game in both PvP and PvE.

Sound arguments encouraged. Two liners saying "ELLLEE MENTALIST IS DA BONB I USE AIR TO SPIKE AND IT ROCKS" discouraged.

I'd tell him myself, but I don't play elementalist much. Thanks everyone.

I play an E/N PvE. Great damage. However I do use spitefull spirit as my Elite skill. But I use imolate, fireball and Meator as well. Ocassionally I'll throw in Lava Font. Ele can still dish damage. An El/Mo that has meding can draw a mob and Earthquake/Aftershock/crytsal wave for huge damage. I also just managed to change my E/N to an E/Me. Again good damage. I agree that the AoE nerf does suck. But if you like to play an ele, you just have to think -direct damage. Even a water/Air ele can do great damage. Slow the mob and hit them with chain lightning. Don't give up on the ele, just adapt. So you can't echo your AoE. Just use your head and play with skills. I'm sure your friend can come up with different skill sets that will work.

Elementalist are still a powerfull class. As any class.
In PvE their nuking comes in handy so often. If you preferr single target damage go air, some great spells there.

Also in PvP. Wards for some defence. Air Spiking. In tombs also fire can be pretty devastating(*cough* iway *cough*)

I think one really nifty little glyph called Renewal may be the reason I still have faith in my nuker.

I like the Wards/Utility Elementalists. Its a different style of playing but lots of fun none the less.

If your friend insists on saying a Warrior with an empty bar deals more damage than an Elementalist (which is not true)...

Well, I view elementalists as more of a defensive class. Even more since the AoE AI update.

i recently saw a great build which has sort of been previously stated by retirbution. if u wanna be a good nuker nowadays you need some slowdown moves so throwing in stuff like deepfreeze and mindburn and then using meteor shower is a great combo. this causes the enemies to take forever to get outta meteor shower and by the time they do they are usually close to dead from it

I too was getting really down on my nuker (haven't experiemented much with the other elemental studies yet) for a while. I had someone making comments at me when I was in Ring of Fire "Still using fire?" Yes, why? "Most ele's have switched to air or water by now".

It seemed like i never really "progressed" with fire magic. I was using many of the very early spells that are received. I found the more recent replacement spells not worth the cost or mostly useless to keep on the bar all the time because of the AoE nerf.

I don't find echo nuking to be to my liking, and no one was ever looking for a nuker without them being echo, especially to go down to UW or FoW.

Tombs has helped revive the use of nukers in the game. Also keying into a new build can really help.

For me it was finally discovering the (rather obvious to most) double attunement. I play my ele now more than just about anything else and don't feel bad about using those early spells. I've gotten compliments on my build and play and it helps to keep the character alive.

I would never delete my ele now, regardless of how much I have spent on him, but because he was my first character and still the one that most fits my prefered play style.

You can very sucessfully 55 farm UW with an ele/mo build (see thread on this page).

Sure you might not be able to Solo or go those unique builds that people are stuck on for FoW. But there are other ways do to those areas with regular cooperative groups and eles are good in regular PUGs if you find a smart one.

I personally like doing 55M/SSN builds, but I usually do that with my guild when there are only a couple of on that want to go farming. If someone actually wants to play out there area (FoW is more conducive to normal group play imo) then I avoid the 55 monks.

Well you see your friend is right and the only people who will support you are groupies who have no idea what they're talking about.

They're a utility class, not a damage class. Go read the thread in the glad arena forum and learn from the build maker of the number one U.S guild why and how.

with 55 hit points you can use protective spirit and take little damage.

i loved my ele at first. messing with earth and air skills in the same build. i was running shock/aftershock/crystal wave. thought i was cool as shit.
yes that build was weak.

I love the wards from earth. water hexes with the mesmer or necro are cool.

but my favorite was

ele attunement
air attunement
ward vs foe or melee
lightening strike
enervating charge
stoning
lightening orb
res

16 air
13 earth
rest in storage

pull down earth a little if you want more energy. cause if you lose your enchantments you're sunk

i'm much more satisfied playing my monk or mesmer than the ele though. it's just not as fun.

Lazy day off reading the forums, oh boy!

Here is my two cents.

I play an ele. She is all I play. I've beaten the game, done the quests..., got the armor (several sets), couple hundred K, etc, etc. Like any class in the game you can be successfull.

Couple points.

1) Ele as a Integral member of a team? Of course! IF and I mean IF, you are playing with a team. Most groups are just that, a "group". A collection of "builds" to take the players towards that green item, or money, etc. When no-one cares about who they are playing with, only what build you have, thats a "group" not a team.

2) Blanket statements about a classes effectiveness or noneffectivness is not a sign of intelligence or wisdom, just a opinion based on that persons play style.

3) The "stupid" article you refer to is "good". You should read it, It is simply they very basics of damage output. (mostly in pvp if my memory serves) I love my ele, I was not discourged or offended by it. I mean a War doing more damage than an Ele in the long run? Who knew!

4) Ele's a support class? yes. All the classes "support" the team.

5) No one wants an ele in the group? Come on, I always have a group, now mind you, I had to meet people, then find the ones I like calling "friends". Still am and the list is growing, all of us don't care who wants to play what. The people only wanting certain builds are forming "groups" not teams (usually). Try and find some "teams" they are alot more fun.

Small rant and then Suggestions for your friend (the whole point of this thread, but like I said it's a lazy day off, and Maina's good at ranting)

I snicker when I hear about the AOE nerf. The monsters got smarter thats all. I do miss the high damage and kill rates before the patch, but then again haveing a bunch of monsters standing under my rain of fire because they are to dumb to move, got old after the third time. I have used the AOE spells to drive enemies into traps set by a player, I have watched mobs die under a metor storm because my team pinned them against a wall, and more than once have re-grouped and quick healed under the protection of a AOE spell, that the bad guys run from. Eles got to play smart.

My suggestion to your friend is to keep the faith. Just lose the idea that other peoples opinions about your character choices has to matter. It doesn't It's your game. And to lose faith over two skills? Have more Faith than that.

As to overall effectiveness? There is not a class or build that is more effective than my Ele "Maina Kitty", "DA BOMB WITH ROCKING AIR SPIKES" (or something like that). Need proof? Come over sometime and watch me play, I have fun, how can you be more effective than that?

I have being to The Temple Of Ages and around the tombs looking for an party to do some farming now one of the partys made a remark at me ''delete your ele for a necro or monk because eles are not wanted no more'' they are doing 3 man partys farming and because of that i lost my all intrest in the game.

my main funding was from uw to get ectos etc now im making around 1k per hour from griffen farming etc while they are having a hell of a good time im working 7 times as hard to get some money witch isnt nice for me now if you have some sort of magical cure to fix this.

And i was planing to get my warrior and mesmar some lovely 15k armor but that isnt possible now due to the fact that i havent got hours(talking around 10 hours to make around 15k) to farm Griffens, my balence is now 10k from buying myself a whole set of 15k armor for my ele ever since these's 55hp monks etc came out people want only them not the eles. Also i worked weeks getting my Ele to who he is all for nothing and im not going to bother playing anymore a waste of effort i am a very unhappy about this but theres no choice i cant get anything for my warrior who he was going to get stuff, money etc all ruined People want the 55hp monk etc then can have it!

And to other people out there who are ele's its not worth it anymore we are expired, out of date..

to tell you the truth im really upset about not being able to enjoy the game i dont hate the 55hp monks its the brain washing that upsets me people now think its a monk's game. The idea of Roleplaying has died really it has.

Eles are not out of date in PvP!

Almost anybody who starts an elementalist makes them thinking they will blow everything to bits and win the match that way. Although, they can have great power, they can be extremely gifted defensive fighters! People just overlook spells like Water Trident, Glimmering Mark or Ward Against Harm.

Sadly tho, in pve, elementalists are not so successful. I agree with you on that.
