Meteor shower makes enemy groups run and scatter. Very useful if you find yourself surrounded, cast it on a nearby enemy and watch the buggers run! Instantly your left alone (all for at least 10 secs).

I kind of wonder why no one mentions Inferno. Personally, I find it more useful than Phoenix, and it's good when you're in a pinch, surrounded by meleers. Also, I can't resist adding to the flare/no flare debate. I use flare. It might not as useful in in PvP, but it's perfect for spamming in PvE. Immolate is good too, but it doesnt recharge quickly enouh that it could be spammed as well as flare. One more thing...meteor shower is way more useful than meteor, in my opinion. Meteor costs next to nothing to use, but it isnt worth the exhaustion. Meteor shower is perfect for a crowd, especially if your fire magic attribute is raied very high, like mine is.

In a build where I like having Inferno, I like even better paying the high energy cost of Flameburst so as to have it available more often.

Standard AOE build:
Fireball
Incendiary Bonds
Rodgort's Invocation
Meteor Shower
Fire Attunement
Elemental Attunement {E} or Glyph of Energy {E}
Aura of Restoration (cover enchantment that also heals)
Rez sig
Fire Attunement can be replaced by Arcane Echo if you want to echo Meteor Shower.
A few points for others in this thread:
-Ether Renewal sucks and Flare sucks. End of story.
-While Immolate is indeed a good skill, as a fire ele you'll want to concentrate on AOE. Leave the single-target spells for the air eles, they do it much better.
-For the love of God, leave the scatter AOEs and point blank AOEs at home.

Grammar,
Why are you so insulting toward solo farming builds?

i used to think ether renewal sucked too... until i figured out how to use.
im guessing Grammer limits himself to fire and air? ether renewal is only useful if you run a high level of enchantments. as most fire and air builds arent enchantment heavy ether renewal is kind of a wasted skill spot.
where ether renewal shines is when its used with an earth build and the amount of enchantments we run it makes a great self heal and a good energy management skill.
like every other skill it has a place and a purpose. if you use it outside of that place and purpose then you probably will find it useless

When I first got Ether Renewal I'd go with a fire damage/earth armor build.
It worked fine in plenty of places. Often, you get restored to full health and energy every 30 seconds.
But it's frustratingly limited on quests; it works much better solo farming.
Glyph of Energy is the elite I use most often, with Elemental Attunement in second place. When I'm in a group I usually don't carry defensive enchantments, and in that case Ether Renewal indeed has limited value.
I've never gotten into Ether Prodigy, I must confess.
