Default Elementalist Quest Help!

I am completely new to this game, and I've just start training my guy to be a elementalist. I am doing the training from NG, and I can't seem to finish the advanced defence technique, and disrupt enchantment. I am currently level 6, should I go level more? or should is there something I am doing wrong? oh yeah, I am having trouble doing combinations too... help!!

A general word of advice, especially to anyone new to the game, is to do ALL the secondary profession quests before choosing one. ESPECIALLY in Factions, this gets you a ton of XP without much more work. Just break them down into area - do all the Sunqua Vale quests first, then grab the level 6 henchies in Tsumei and do the quests in Panjiang Peninsula, then head back to Tsumei, go through the mountains and do the Revenge of the Yeti quest, then hit up Kinya Province to finish out. Doing this for the first time should take you around 3 hours if you don't already know where everything is, and by the time you talk to Togo and actually choose your secondary, you should be level 10-11.

A word of advice, do the first Mesmer quest first - Mei Ling will ask you to remove a hex on some priest at the Shrine of Maat and give you Shatter Hex. This is the only quest that REQUIRES you to use the spells they give you, so do it first and get it out of the way, THEN do the quest for the secondary you want. Get those skills and use them throughout so you get some experience with them. There are ways around what the game tells you to do on some quests. For example: the Sunqua Vale Monk quest tells you to heal the warrior student - screw that. Go over, kill the Monk NPC healing the enemy warrior, then go kill the Warrior.

While it's not exactly NECESSARY, I would advise you to re-roll your character and do all the secondary quests this time. Otherwise, you're going to finish Shing Jea island at like level 12 or 13 instead of 17-20, and you're going to be torn in half when you reach the mainland - that I can promise you.

As for the insignia training quests, I think you'll find them easier at level 10-11, and you should be using the skills Ng gives you. Replace Rez Signet for those, you're going in alone, you don't need it.

Hope all this helps! Drop me a line in-game if you need any more help - IGN is Archmage Aurora.

Very good advice from CaptainRansom. All my chars I created in Cantha did it this way. Each of them left the island around level 18-19. Much easier to get that last bit than level all the way from 12-13.

Also take note! When you do get to the mainland, do not expect the mobs to be as easy as they were on the island. Things are much harder! I have helped a number of groups to do the Masters Burden and MAyhem in the MArket quests and they all thought they could just rush in. It just does not work like that! Take your time on the island to learn to use your skills well and also how to avoid taking damage by learning how the aggro system works.

Yes, level up first. You can still level up on the island, even after you've chosen your 2nd profession. There are other quests that can be obtained after the 2nd city.

Also, you don't need to disrupt the spell, just keep killing the guy (I think you just need to bring him down to 50% health or so). I've never really bothered with those spells, I just kept attacking until I passed .
