Default I'd like help about how to improve my Elementalist build.

Ok, so one day on the long-gone holidays, I was playing through Vabbi and all of a sudden boredom struck. With not much else to do, and not wanting to give the computer to my sis (because we play in 3 hour blocks, and getting off willingly means you don't get to finish your turn), I decided to play my Elementalist, who was still in Kryta.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got addicted to setting things on fire and have gotten as far as ascending. I have found that my build from Kryta hasn't really changed much, and now is the time to re-vamp things.

So, here's how things are:

Fire Magic: 16
Energy Storage: 12 (still need to get my other 15 attribute points)

[card]Flare[/card] Flare has 2 purposes - Killing an enemy that's running away and not worth a 10 energy spell, and for energy management (see skill 7)
[card]Aura of Restoration[/card] Well, it's a self heal. I use it to keep me alive. That's about all it does. WAIT! I use to cover Fire Attunement, because it casts and recharges much quicker.
[card]Fire Attunement[/card] I was soooo happy when I got this! It turns my 10 energy spells into 6 energy spells, and helps alot in longer fights.
[card]Immolate[/card] My favourite spell so far, especially since Anet reduced the casting time to 3 seconds. It sets people on fire (which is fun and one of the reasons why I play my Ele). It is one of my 2 primary damage spells.
[card]Fireball[/card] No one can call themselves Pyromancers without the one and only Fireball. Seriously though, I find that it does good damage, especially when it hits more than 1 target. It is my other primary damage spell
[card]Phoenix[/card]/[card]Inferno[/card]/[card]Flame Burst[/card] This is basically my PBAoE slot. I used to be able to wipe out 6+ Moss Scarabs in 3 seconds when I was in the Jungle, but now I find I get hurt too much if I stay in melee.
[card]Ether Renewal[/card] I use this when my energy is low so I get back to max energy, or close to it. With 3 enchantments running and Flare returning 11 energy per cast, I find it's really good for my energy.
[card]Resurrection Signet[/card] If you don't know what this is for, please stop reading and play the game for longer than 20 seconds. Thank you.

-------------------------------------

Bascially what I want is tips on how to improve my build so the henchmen don't flame me as much when I cast. I've been thinking about Rodgort's Invocation (to replace my PBAoE) but I'm not sure.

Keep in mind I can travel anywhere before the Southern Shiverpeaks in Tyria, Kamadan in Elona, and Kaineng Centre in Cantha, if you mention skills that I don't have.

Thanks in advance, Marty.

A few things-

Ether renewal isn't worth bringing. You're better off not even bringing an elite than that piece o' junk.

Flare, although useful for filling downtime, isn't so hot, there's better things you could be doing. Besides, immolate gives you a single target spell anyway.

Point blank, as you said, isn't worth it except in a build made for it. Even then, PBAoE starts and ends with flame burst.

So that's what you can cut, here's some suggested additions:

Glyph of lesser energy is pretty darn spiffy energy management, much better than ether renewal.

Rodgort's Invocation is THE fire spell. It's fireball's big brother and it is a bundle of awesomeness with a short recharge.

Searing heat isn't available until copperhammer, and lots of people hate it, but it can be really fun, especially combined with a snare.

Meteor is a nice direct damage spell, with a slower recharge. If the recharge bothers you, take incendiary bonds and live with the 3 second delay.

BTW, you might want to rephrase this. I stopped running Res Sigs on any of my characters just because I never needed it. A lot of other people don't use Res Sigs either just because for the most part, its a waste of a slot. If the ele is the last one standing, there's something else wrong with your team . ..
Since you said you run with henchies, all the henchies carry a res sig of their own. If you got heroes, you can equip a hard res on a couple of them and not have to worry about carrying a res yourself.

Strangelove's advice was fairly solid. The only reason why you would be carrying flare is for ether renewal but there are much better energy management skills out there. Might as well just use Elemental Attunement or use Glyph of Lesser Energy and toss on a elite damage spell.

Resurrection Signet is not for teamwipes. You would bring Rebirth for that. Resurrection Signets, from my experience, are used to maximize efficiency - while you might complete the battle with the player down, you would most probably complete it faster with the player up. Although in an optimal situation no one should die, people do die sometimes.

Flare still isn't really that worth bringing, nor is Ether Renewal, aside from farming. Drop your PBAoE slot.

Suggestions:
Fireball
Rodgort's Invocation
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Glyph of Sacrifice - Restore Life

Meh, I don't like Searing Heat, but whatever. Try to get to Nightfall.

I don't know if you have access to the Fire Island in Tyria yet, but it's well worth capping [skill]Elemental Attunement[/skill] to replace Ether Renewal. It let's you spam like there's no tomorrow without scratching your energy :>

Imo the pbaoe isn't that well suited to a fire build like yours (and mine ^^), you're better off with [skill]Rodgort's Invocation[/skill].

If your not overly fussed about having a 150% effective build, i like to run around with [skill]Mark of Rodgort[/skill] occasionally, it's fun with fireball hehe.

I'll agree with the popular sentiment that Glyph of Lesser Energy is better than Ether Renewal on any Elementalist without a ton of enchantments. Just play without an elite until you get something really sweet. Also, while I'm not a huge fan of Rodgort's Invocation, it's the only respectably-sized AoE available. AoE to an Ele is like Minions to a Necromancer, it's the one really good mechanic that you have for PvE, get used to working around the costs.

I'll disagree with the popular sentiment here on Flare. I think that until you have a really deep skill selection, running Flare is perfectly reasonable. The damage per time and energy, while nothing exceptional, aren't exactly bad anymore either. Until you start to really figure out the right skills and timing, you do have a lot of downtime as a Fire Ele, and Flare does fill that downtime. However your ultimate goal when tweaking your bar is to find a setup where Flare isn't pulling its weight anymore, that's when you know you're starting to get it right.

Peace,
-CxE

so long as you have both attunement spells up, flare can just be your attack spell while you wait for skills to recharge. and capping Ele attunement in Canthan in the undercity isn't that hard.

Ok, I know I haven't posted back in this thread for a while but here goes:

I have gotten through Iron Mines of Moladune and have the following Elites:

-The mursaat ones - Thunderclap and Energy Surge
- The shadow ones - Mist Form and Illusionary Weaponary
- The forgotten ones - Ether Renewal and Mantra of Recovery
- The facet ones - Lightning Surge and Mantra of Recall
- The griffon ones - Mind Shock and Mantra of Recall (same as the facet)

I think I'm forgetting one but that's all I can think of atm. Anyway, which one should I use or look towards getting?

So, here is my build after the last few days.
[card]Flare[/card] I still haven't found something to replace this. I'm thinking of replacing it with my elite once I get a suitable one. I do use it against Mursaat Mesmers because they use Physical Resistance and I get a big dmg boost.
[card]Aura of Restoration[/card] Hasn't changed much, probably never will.
[card]Fire Attunement[/card] Energy management. Tell me to drop it and I'll get a big guy to kick your butt.
[card]Immolate[/card] Hasn't changed either, and I'll get an even bigger buy to kick your butt if you tell me to drop it.
[card]Fireball[/card] Good skill. I'm keeping it.
[card]Rodgort's Invocation[/card] I want to rename this skill to OMFGWTFLEETUBERPWNAGE. In short, YES!
[card]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/card] Rodgort is an energy hungry beast and must be kept to a reasonable level.
[card]Resurrection Signet[/card] I know what you mean about not having to bring it everywhere, because I often drop it for a cap sig. Anyway, It will get some use as I get into the higher end PvE.

Ok, so what I'm looking for is a good elite and a good build to go with it, preferably without changing too much.

Thank You, Marty.

If you want consistant damage I think Searing Flames is the best way to go. You started in Tyria right? If you hop over to Elona, the cap isnt too far. If you need to unlock normal non elite skills from elona but its too far away to buy. Just get 1000 Balth faction, buy it in PvP in the battle ilse and then go back to kamadan and buy it with gold. Works with any campaign. Liquid flame is a nice skill too. An ideal SF build would be

Firebat

Elementalist/Ranger
Level: 20

Energy Storage: 13 (12+1)
Fire Magic: 16 (12+4)

[card]Searing Flames[/card][card]Glowing Gaze[/card][card]Mark of Rodgort[/card][card]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/card][card]Liquid Flame[/card][card]Fire Attunement[/card][card]Aura of Restoration[/card][card]Resurrection Signet[/card]

As you get into higher levels of the game you can drop Aura of Restoration as the monks will do the healing and you need to focus on offence more. Taking Meteor Shower as a replacement is common. But for now, you can patch heal pretty well.

Marty - your build looks solid enough. There's a couple of Fire skills I'd definately consider getting over in Cantha and Elona though - [skill]Liquid Flame[/skill] because 1 second cast kinda cute... and [skill]Smoldering Embers[/skill] because a second Fireball is kinda cute too.

As for 'good' elites.... Um... Elemental Attunement can be capped easy enough in the Undercity in Cantha... And... there's not much else immediately available that would fit your build.

EDIT - The skill icon for Embers is still wrong - it got buffed.
