Hey everyone,

I've been playing the game for about a month now, my first and main character being a Mesmer/Necromancer. I've had a lot of fun with it, but now that I'm at the Ring of Fire, I feel pretty useless when in a party. My hexes don't seem to do very much anymore (except SS).

I was thinking of going Mesmer/Elementalist to add more damage dealing to the team. Would this be a good idea?

You are a mesmer, play as one. If you want to deal damage use mesmer damage skills, armour ignoring damage can be very useful in end game, otherwise play shutdown, it will give your monks a much easyer job.

Naylyn is right.
My main is a mesmer and for the first month playing guildwars I was an Me/Mo who was being played like a monk with mesmer skills. lmao
You need to play your mesmer as a mesmer to start having real fun. mwa ha ha
I'm wondering if Sante_Kelm would enjoy a N/Me more?

Yes, going as a Me/E in PvE is a very good idea. Go into fire, 16 fast casting, 12 Fire, and nuker build. People will love you,

Repeat again:
You're a mesmer, so play as one.

And add:
You're not an Elementalist or Necromancer with pretty dress.

With no Inspiration for the needed energie management or Energie Storage for a larger 'mana'-pool?

I get the hint...I'll keep working on my Mesmer build, especially in the Ring of Fire area. Any suggestions?

Ineptitude, degen and clumsiness in Illusion(accumulated pain and illusion of pain are better than most people think also)

I personally prefer using FC version of most Elementalist Nuker builds. Either powered by Mantra of Recovery or not, I can't stand the long cast times of most Elementalist spells.

You could go as a Mesmer/Elementalist as suggested above, but in the Ring of Fire critters have resistance to fire. Still [skill]meteor shower[/skill] is nice for the disruption and knock down.

My flamer build is [skill]searing flames[/skill] [skill]glowing gaze[/skill] [skill]liquid flame[/skill] [skill]meteor shower[/skill] [skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill] [skill]energy tap[/skill] [skill]ether feast[/skill] [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

Must have Nightfall for above build

Honestly going domination should be the answer in the ring of fire missions. Not many huge groups so you should be pretty effective. If with humans you should be able to pick your target and hex away. If with henchmen you need to call targets a bit.

Mesmer/Elementalist

[skill]energy surge[/skill] [skill]arcane echo[/skill][skill]empathy[/skill] [skill]Backfire[/skill] [skill]mistrust[/skill] (This skill is optional and can also be replaced by any other skill of your choice) [skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill] [skill]ether feast[/skill] [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

Good luck

If you only have Prophecies, then try using:

[skill]backfire[/skill][skill]shame[/skill][skill]cry of frustration[/skill][skill]wastrel's worry[/skill][skill]energy surge[/skill][skill]power spike[/skill][skill]ether feast[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

You can sub shame for guilt if you wish.

In the last mission Signet of Midnight and Epidemic (or plague Sending since you have that Necro secondary) will breeze you though it.
I think a build like this would do you in most situations:

Empathy
Backfire
Powerspike
Mantra of Recovery/Energy Surge
Guilt
Energy Burn
Cry of Frustration
Res Signet

In PvE I find I don't have too many problems with energy as most battles don't last very long and I keep my distance from foes allowing my energy a little bit of a recharge.

When I'm on the Fire Islands I always take a mesmer. Why? One reason - [wiki]Diversion[/wiki] and Interrupts.

There are some awkward monk bosses on the Fire Islands, particularlt the Mursaat ones, Diversion is Godly here since their only heal is Orison of Healing...if you can stop that skill for 50-odd seconds it's GG Mr. Monk.

I came across this build the other day which seemed really nice, might need some tweaking but I'm reasonably happy with it:

[skill]Energy Tap[/skill][skill]Power Drain[/skill][skill]Guilt[/skill][skill]Energy Burn[/skill][skill]Empathy[/skill][skill]Mistrust[/skill][skill]Diversion[/skill][skill]Power Block[/skill]
(attributes 12+4 Domination, 10+1 Fast Casting, rest+1 Inspiration I think)

I KNOW there's no res...so shoot me, you could probably take a res instead of Mistrust... I tried this build yesterday in the Gate of Pain and seemed to work like a charm. It may not be the greatest build ever, but maybe a base to start working from.

In PvP and PvE, vs any caster you come across this is the winner~

[skill]Power Block[/skill] + [skill]Wastrel's Demise[/skill] + [skill]Wastrel's Worry[/skill]

Domination wreaks havoc in PvE, simply because nearly all of the domination line is massively damaging (however conditional it may be). It's the recharge times that put you back.

I also like to use [skill]Mantra of Recovery[/skill] with [skill]Guilt[/skill][skill]Mistrust[/skill][skill]Shame[/skill], long recharge times are reduced by a hefty amount, just take something like [skill]Energy Burn[/skill] and even this nastly little underestimated fella [skill]Overload[/skill] to fill in the gap in between recharges.
