Sorry, I'm new to this-- where is a good place to learn the pros and cons of each main Element?

Faye, does your build work well in PvP? or is that build just for PvE?

Elementalist/Ranger
By choosing a secondary of Ranger, the Elementalist could choose to go the route of Beastmastery, gaining a persistant pet companion - useful for keeping the heat off of the physically frail Elementalist. The Wilderness Survival line could also enable the Elementalist to bring along traps - useful to set down, and to damage and impair anyone that would seek to damage your character.
|
Bah, the Elem/Ranger looks woefully suited for PvP. Looks like I'll have to switch when I hit 20. The pet is great for PvE, I was hoping there would be more PvP friendly ranger skills for once I hit 20, obviously a pet won't do.

Warrior Hate Price of Failure build
Energy Storage 10+1
Water 10+2 (or more)
Curses 11
Water Attunement - Enchant 10/2/60
Blurred Vision - Hex 15/1/20
Deep Freeze - Hex 25/3/15
Water Trident - Spell 5/1/3
Price of Failure - Hex 10/3/10
Rend Enchantments 10/3/30
or Malestrom 25/4/30
Spinal Shivers 10/2/15
Engery Glyph 5/1/30
The idea is to drop your PoF and Blurred Vision on a warrior or ranger, use Deep Freeze with the glyph and then water trident to keep em from getting anywhere, and Spinal Shivers to shut them down completely. You have the energy pool to hang with Shivers for a long time, if need be. The Rend vs Malestrom decision I havent come down on one side or the other yet. More AoE (but on a LONG timer) vs getting rid of enchantments... Right now Id go with Rend.
Thoughts?

well, very simplified:
fire = AoE
water = snares+direct dmg
earth = protection
air = direct dmg

I think that would be a bit too spread out attribute point wise. It would be better if you just went with either fire or air. I personally recommend fire for PvE.

I was looking at an Elementalist/Ranger build... just wondering, is it a waste of time to try to shoot arrows when you can cast spells instead? I was thinking I'd mostly use spells but throw in a conjure lightning and dual shot. My concerns are that by doing so I'd be doing less damage after all and that giving up a focus for the bow wouldn't be worth it. Still, it might give me something against caster-haters. Is an archer mage even do-able in GW?

Is domination mesmer a good secondary class for air ele? now, on lvl 13 with 80% skills blocked I don't have much time to counter enemy spells (I mean, really, I'm casting something 80% time and have no mana 15% of time i dont casting =) )... maybe i should spec to inspiration and use mes skills only to leech mana?
edit: spelling

fire is the predominant element because you start out with more fire skills than anyone else and thus, many people follow the fire route. When I get home from school, I'll put up my fire elementalist stuff so you can compare it to chandley's water.

I'm level 6 and so far, I invested all my points in Energy (Cant go wrong there..) But would Fire be more benefitial right now?
I'm thinking of Air build since there are so many Water/Fire build around. I'm E/Me. I never thought much about the secondary actually >.>... I rarely use Mesmer's spells.

Anyone have words on my build or tweakings?
Ele/W (might have been a bad choice)
Earth 16
Fire 12
Enegry 7
Ob Flame
Gylph of Lesser Enegry
Meteor Storm
Whirlwind
Aftershock
Aura of Restore
Earth Armor
Eruption
=\ Well I coudl tank Warriors and meteor them as they stay attacking me then I aftershock when ver tehy get knocked down dealing around 230 damage if they run with low HP id usualy use Ob Flame which would kill them
This onyl works if its a 1v1 if they had support id die or run out of enegry >_> or cant kill them at all
I was thinkign of going earth/air Enervating Charge + Stoning along with whirlwind +aftershock and the rest of the skills on there
Sometimes i end up spamign to much Ob Flame when Im ment to use it as a finishing move
its just Meteor since it has a 1min delay and aftershock has 30 i cant do anything else but Ob Flame
Im wonderign if i shodul go
Earth/Air so I can spam Stoning with Enervating Charge?

My personal build ATM is for my E/Me is Water/Inspiration.
When I get home I'll give details, but it works very well for slowing down runners in PVP, especially being chased, and the ability to heal myself if need be and steal energy.

hell ya you should invest in fire. The most expensive spells you have right now should be 15 energy so if you add the glyph and invest in fire, you'll be good to go. When you get to later on in the game (somewhere in Maguuma) then that would be a good time to change your element. But be prepared, if someone is selling a goor air wand or staff buy it and save it.
Air is defenitely a good choice though but no elementalist should go through the game without trying out the amazing PBAoE skills of earth. lol
anyway, ya...fire = best choice right now.

Though I'm not entirely against it, using more than one element is a no-no. You should choose an element that you feel would work best with who you are facing and stay with that. And I want to clarify this now:
There is no such thing as using something as a finishing move. For instance, Ob Flame? It doesnt do an amazing amount of damage and since you have 12 in fire, why not put in a fireball or a inferno cause they dont cause exhaustion and do about the same dmg.
IMO, Ob Flame is bad...dont use it.
