It's not the damage from Air Magic which makes it good...it's the condition-spamming ability of that attribute. Combine with Epidemic and you can chug out some pretty potent support for your party through blind and weakness, then there's cracked armor and knockdowns.
I laughed at the reactions of all the devout SF Eles when Eye of the North came out.

lol i was pretty much SF ele GWEN change that
 but Epidmeic/air magic have always been my fave mix but Searing flames seriousaly is toootaly ftw!
