Default I'm slightly confused

I'm slightly confused about what build to run on my PvE Ele. I've been palying on NM for my entire time, but I'm about to finish up Eye of the North and will begin playing on HM. As far as I can tell, here, everyone is saying that Support is better than fire nuking (I.E. Wards, migitation, and a secondary atribute.) so I hoped on the wiki to look at some Earth Magic builds; however, there, the Fire nuking builds seem to be vetted "Great" while the more supportish builds get vetted lower. I'd like a straight sstory please. Also, if you want to throw in an Earth Magic Support build, I'd welcome that (I was think Unsteady Ground).

How about instead of being a button basher, get some skills and play around with them. Differnt builds will work better in different areas, for instance fire works well in norn territory but not against charr, where water would be a better pick.

People on PvX can be very moronic.
Eles can't deal the huge amounts of damage as easily as people think, especially in HM where the AL of enemies starts to really hurt damage output.
Utility in a group with some guildies is generally a better bet.

i would suggest you run something like mind blast+rodgorts invocation+ splinter weapons+ ancestors rage+ fire attunement+optional+optional+rez. or you can run master of magic and run a utility build with blind, wards+ snare etc. in HM eles are fairly bad at putting up damage because of the high armor.

Earth Attunement
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Ward Against Melee
Churning Earth
Assassins Promise
Ebon Assassin Support/You Move Like a Dwarf!
Pain Inverter
Finish Him!
R5+ in title ranks is prefered
12+1+1 earth
10+1 estore
8 deadly

Mind Blast
Immolate/Liquid Flame
Rodgort's Invocation
"You Move Like a Dwarf!"
"Finish Him!"
"There's Nothing to Fear"/Other PvE Skills
Fire Attunement
GoLE/Res/Optional

Basically the real strength lies in the PvE skills. I'd strongly consider Great Dwarf Weapon if you've got a human frontline that doesn't suck.

As for Earth, just mashing some skills together off the top of my head

Unsteady Ground
Enfeebling Blood
Glowstone
"You Move Like a Dwarf!"
"Finish Him"
Optional PvE Skill/Ward
GoLE
Res/Whatever

Glowing Gaze
Savannah Heat
Rodgort's Invocation
GoLE
Maelstrom
Ice Spikes
Pain Inverter
Fire Attunement

Bring a fire ele hero with SF, MS+Glyph of Sacrifice, Wards vs elements and melee. MM hero and an SS hero with Enfeebling Blood, Weaken Armor, Mark of Pain. Minions and water hex will keep the mobs pinned down while you and your hero nuke away. Oh and, the Charr hate this too.

You'll want to disable MS and Sacrifice glyph on the hero. They tend do frak it up. Lock hero, manually click glyph+MS. Enjoy the nice explosions.

I usually run this build with an Ele on Hard Mode. I don't have access to many PvE-only skills so feel free to change the skills around as you wish.

[Lightning Surge][Lightning Orb][Glyph of Lesser Energy][Shell Shock][Enervating Charge][Elemental Lord][Air Attunement][Rebirth]

Air Magic = 14
Energy Storage = 13

Cast your enchantments.
Open by casting Shell Shock.
Cast Lighthing Surge following by Lightning Orb on the same target. Follow by casting Enervating Charge. In the majority of the cases, you cause approximately 200 damage on a single target.

Not very impressive as far as the number of yellow numbers are concerned, but with the rest of your team casting hexes and such on your enemies, there will be plenty of times where the enemy will die before you even finish casting Surge & Orb.

I recommend calling an enemy to be targetted by your H/H while you cast your spells on another enemy.

Good luck.

The reason i made this build is because i wanted to maximize [[assassins promise] potential and i did so by setting it to 12 attrib as well as adding [[deadly paradox] to decrease the casting time and decrease the downtime if it misses. Which is misses a lot less often because the duration is increased to 13 seconds at 12 spec.
e storage 12+1+1... deadly arts 12
[deadly paradox @12][enduring [email protected]][mark of [email protected]][pain inverter][assassins [email protected]][you move like a dwarf][finish him][sadists [email protected]]

there you go. I use this build to vanquish with my [[discord] team. it is a champ for keeping hex pressure on the enemy and you can keep applying conditions too with [[you move like a dwarf]. I have vanquished 90% of Tyra with this build and almost finished.

[[deadly paradox] makes most of your skills fast casting/recharging (big help)
[[enduring toxin] cheap hex great for a cover hex in case enemy has hex removal and spammable to keep hex pressure on enemy.
[[mark of death] great for when the enemy has a good monk or multiple monks who keep healing your target
[[pain inverter] just my favorite hex ever (many enemies suicide themselves with this) my fav enemies to cast on is [spiteful spirit] and [dragons stomp][earthquake]
[[assassins [email protected]] at spec 12 this skill returns better energy and gives you more time to kill the enemy
[[you move like a dwarf] nice spammable condition and decent damage
[[finish him] should be considered part of [[assassins promise]
[[sadists [email protected]] nice little self heal just in case you need a little health (i hardly ever have to use this)

if you use a [[discord] team you can make them condition heavy since you can basically apply all the needed hexes. like give your heros [[weaken armor] and [[enfeebling blood] and it is a good idea to either add a necro henchie or if you are using 6 heroes, give one of them [[blood ritual] just to keep your energy high. although this build is perfectly manageable with no energy support.

if youd like a condition heavy build you can always run these skills
[deadly [email protected]][dancing [email protected]][entangling [email protected]][signet of toxic [email protected]][pain inverter][assassins [email protected]][you move like a dwarf][finish him]
this build is awesome, it does more damage and keeps conditions applied to the enemy, but the only downside is it is half range so you cant really play midline. but since it has 2 KDs you can kinda keep enemies off your ass. When i run this build i like to make sure that my minions hold aggro before i start targeting. But in all that build is has a very nice harmony. skill 1 feeds 2,3,4,6; 2 feeds 3; 3 feeds 4. even though most of the time i just cast 5,6,7,8 which does fine for spiking them to death (especially with [[discord] heroes)

If you run a discord hero team then I found that air magic was useful to assist with, cracked armor + 25% penetration means that the numbers often hit what they say they'll hit.

cracked armor makes little or no difference in discord builds since [[discord] = armor ignoring.

In my experience, the only difference cracked armor makes is that the minions tend to hit a tad bit harder but thats all. At least in my builds where i try to stick with armor ignoring skills.

look, if you're going to run AP, run AP+ward melee+churning+YMLaD and you have discord reqs + utility to keep the physical dmg down

Edit: am I actually understanding this right that some people DONT run 12 deadly?
