destroyers and ele
(Tried this out yesterday, so if anyone else wants to try it) So I was thinking because fire eles are best for NM, and destroyers are resistant to fire, so most people bring water eles against them. So I brought a friend R/Rt with winter and summon spirits, and it worked pretty well.

The problem with firemagic + winter is, that a lot fire spell also cause burning, which still doesnt work. So you waste energy on effects that don't apply.

You know what worked pretty well for me (especially against destroyer of lives which can't move) is a snare/maelstrom combo (water magic). I also used dual attunements to manage energy and used arcane echo to allow a second cast of maelstrom. Destroyers don't strip enchantments, so energy denial isn't too much of a concern.
BTW, the Asuran Skill "Mindbender" is great for these sorts of bars which can take a lot of time to cast.

as jongal said, one of the main features of fire is the burning, and since it has no effect it will be a waste of energy. using water or air is still more useful imho. specially water as they are AoE and can do some solid damage.

I bring Air and PvE skills against destroyers mostly; the 25% armor penetration on lightning seems to do a better job of causing some damage than hitting them with cold damage. Also, Air alows me to quickly place the physicals under blind and weakness, which messes them up pretty well. Also, [[Alkar's Alchemical Acid] does good damage and gives them cracked armor.

Does this mean that winter is fixed these days, must have missed that, not used it in a long long time.

Yes, now I remember, you are correct, they do take out your enchantments and then you are dead in the water. (I was thinking of perma-sins who are pretty much destroyer proof). Alkars is a must for ANY anti-destroyer bar.

BTW, I just completed the end game Ring of Fire quests with my Water Ele bar and it was very effective. I can't ping the build at work but it was as I mentioned before:
Mindbender, Dual Attunements, Ebon Battle Standard of Honor, Deep Freeze, Arcane Echo, Maelstrom, Glowing Ice.
The previously pesky ether seals (the one's that drain your energy) went down effortlessly with a dual cast of Maelstrom and the slew of interrupts were great to shut down potentially devastating Sparks of the Titan.
The buildup of exhaustion only seemed to become a problem on some very lengthy battles where my max energy started getting dangerously low. Worst case Ebon Battle Standard of Honor + damage from my staff was at least SOMETHING I could dish out.
This is the before-mentioned build that I like to use on destroyer laden missions.

Winter was fixed last May, I believe. I've been using it vs. Titans in Ring of Fire and the Drought in Rilohn Refuge, and it seems to be fine.
