Default Elementalists Elite Skill Updates & Your Thoughts 12/11/08

As many of you already know Anet gave us a huge elite skill update last Thursday. It seems that for the first time in awhile the ele got more perks then it did nerfs. I was wondering how your traditional builds have changed (if at all), whether you were happy or not with the update and what you were most pleased or displeased with.

Personally I was very happy with the [blinding surge] update. It really revived my old bsurge builds and I have implemented it into my day to day pvp now and have been having a blast with it.

On thing I was a disappointed with and thought was unnecessary was the [Double Dragon] skill update. I was perfectly happy with the way it was and I find it now kind of lame. They just combined glyph of elemental power and lava burst and call it an elite. Previously double dragon was a fun elite for me because I used it in a number of gank builds. But I do think the energy reduction is nice... Maybe I have not thought the skill through enough yet.

Either way here is a list of updates to the ele elite skills that were performed on Thursday if you did not know.

* [Blinding Surge]: functionality changed to: "Target foe is struck for 5..50 lightning damage. That foe and all adjacent foes are Blinded for '1..7 seconds. This spell has 25% armor penetration."

* [Double Dragon]: Energy cost reduced to 5, recharge time reduced to 15 seconds. Functionality changed to: "All nearby foes are struck for 7..112 fire damage. For 10..25 seconds, your Fire Magic attribute is increased by +0..2."

* [Energy Boon]: recharge time increased to 40 seconds, casting time removed. Functionality changed to: "For 20 seconds, you have +0..40 maximum Energy, and 5 Health regeneration. When Energy Boon ends you gain 0..20 Energy and 0..100 Health."

* [Ether Prism]: Energy cost reduced to 5, casting time removed. Functionality changed to: "For 3 seconds, all damage you take is reduced to 0. When this enchantment ends, you gain 5..20 Energy."

Looking forward to your thoughts,

~Cheers

Is [Ether prism] still an enchantment and is its recharge time still 10 seconds?

If so, can be really easily abused.

casting time removed = no enchantment.

energy boon i still don't get and can never see a good reason to use this over other elite skills. but at least it's better than the older crappier version.

ether prism is kinda nice, there's a few ways this could be used. i'd like it more if it was for 3 seconds you could not be interrupted... ohhh yes. but overall still a cool skill, maybe someone will find a good synergy to use with it.

and double dragon will introduce a new available style of play in pvp and pve for eles, this is my favorite change for the elementalist

Ether prism is no longer an enchantment and the recharge time has been increased 15 seconds (I just copied and pasted it from gw website). Sorry for the discrepancy.

I am still pondering what do to with this one, have not created a build around this elite yet but will post one once I do =)

I didn't see anything that would tempt me to dislocate MBlast (in PvP) or AP (in PvE) from my skill bar.

for [Energy Boon] I think it would be better to add some scaling energy regen (+3 max maybe?) but remove the hp regen & gain - would be much better imo

I was kind of disappointed in the Ether Prism change. I actually used it a bit back when. It's pretty much the only energy management skill you needed if you had, say, a high + energy set.

Energy boon is still worthless because +energy is not energy management, and elementalists do NOT need more +energy.

Double Dragon's only use not would be in conjunction with GoEP to get 20 Fire Magic, but that really doesn't even matter.

and blinding surge is the only decent update, but people are already whining. Of well, doesn't affect PvE so I could care less

I'm kinda surprised they didn't buff [[Glyph of Energy] considering how [[Glyph of Lesser Energy] is much more useful.

GoE still has it's use for niche builds and such, as it's the only skill that negates exhaustion from another spell. It'd be much better as a non-elite, and the energy scaling doesn't make too much sense. Maybe if it effected two spells and lasted less time (we really don't need Gale spammers) it'd be more viable.

Maybe even if they made it like the pre-buffed Life Sheath for energy. Maybe prevent the spending of the next 10...50 energy.
