Rodgort's Invocation
It says it does (with fire +15) 120 fire dmg, +plus burning (3 seconds). It RARELY does the full damage, against the same foe. They take say 120 first cast, 60 the second etc.. It seems to do max damage only when you ambush a mob and get first strike. I think the description needs work.

Maybe to mob said dam that hurt and put up some armor buffs or damage reduction enchants on themselves, thus your next hit was less effective.

Skills like stoneflesh? Protective spirit? Any other protection/+armor skill would reduce your second damage. Its not buggered like your making it sound, go to master of damage and im sure you'l get the same over and over.

what he is trying to say is that, the foes may have used prot skills to reduce the damage you can deal on them, so if they're max health is 600, the max damage that can be done on that foe is 60 if they are enchanted with prot spirit
have a look at all the foes professions and what skills they are using.

what do u mean full damage? If ur referring to the skill description, 120 is only done targets at 60 AL IIRC
at higher AL it gets reduced of course
Also Quetzal Stark's hve Watch Yourself,so u gotta factor that in too

Of course, but half damage with no special protections other then WY?
The thought occurs, with all the creative minds (players) and custom builds, the mobs more than likely have more protections than we know about. Like mobs with no special protections suddenly not being able to be killed when they have only a sliver of health. We know what we have been told, and can see (by watching their skills cast etc) but I truly doubt we know all they can do or withstand.

A Quetzal Stark naturally has 80 armor, and under the effects of Watch Yourself at 11 tactics will have 100 armor, reducing a 120 damage hit to 60. At higher tactics this will be reduced further. Quetzal Keens naturally have 100 armor vs. elemental, and so will also only take 60 from Rodgort's. Quetzal Slys and Darks both naturally have 60 armor, resulting in a full 120 damage hit, as long as Watch Yourself isn't up.

This.
Was gunna say, some of the guys you might have hit were rangers which have elemental armor.

I have 100 armor vs. elemental (sentinels on head/chest) and standardly take 42 damage from rodgort's in pvp, I think it hits for 60 if it hits my feet/head which is unusual.
42 every single time (14 fire magic presumably).

Rodgort's sucks compared to other fire skills. If you want the burning, pop in glyph of immolation or mark of rodgort, and from their meteor does almost the same amount of damage, but with 5 energy and a kd. Sure the recharge is high, but you can always use other s kills like smoldering embers, it is so much better than rodgorts.
Oh ya, and you will be lucky to do over 100 with rodgort's (thats only against 60 armor)

Rodgorts is a pretty seriously awesome spell and anyone who says otherwise is probably a noob. You really need to combine it with glyph of lesser energy, though, unless your build is very balanced energy wise.
Tried it with searing flames for a 200 damage spike in pvp, was always out of energy though.

I tested it on Isle of the Nameless. Apparently, when affecting 60 armor it does what it states. When affecting adjacent foes, it does different damage according to armor. Maybe your eyes were looking at the wrong numbas lol

This is a result of your shield/weapon giving you extra armor, and armor piece hit chance. When Rodgort's hits your head or chest (50% chance combined), you gain the benefit of sentinels insignia and your weapon set bonuses, giving you over 100 armor. However, if Rodgort's hits your legs, hands, or feet (Also 50% chance combined), you are without sentinels bonus armor, and so only have 80 plus your weapon set bonuses.

Try this..
Double dragon, glyph of elemental, and RI. It's called BOOHYAH! Firemagic of +20 (+1 +3 fire magic) and you make a big dent in the foes, even rangers.

Rodgort's Invocation has gone down in my estimations of late. Since Rodgort's Invocation's recharge was increased from 5 seconds to 8 seconds a while back, I've used it far less.
I too would concur with Mark of Rodgort or GoI as a better method of inflicting burning. Since Fireball is reasonably similar to RI in terms of damage and recharge, but cheaper, it makes for a better substitution in my opinion when used with a skill to induce burning.

This. A Quetzel copying "Save Yourselves!" or "There's Nothing to Fear!" is quite irritating if you're trying to pump out the damage.
