So I finished Nightfall as ele, my first finished campaign. Great story, great finale with Abaddon. Solo mostly, hard to find people to play missions in normal mode together these days. My ele had same development as many before me probably: started with fire, than had some fun with mixing elements under Master Of Magic (first elite available to me) and finally switched to earth. I enjoyed earth a lot, so many combinations, great support for group and still good damage (Sandstorm owns midgame), easy to solo farm. Than at the end of the road elemental damage spells was not worth casting anymore. Yes, earth has most armor ignoring damage spells from all elements, I used Crystals + Obsidian Flame and Energy Blast, but they all have downsides. Then Ward of Weakness with Necrosis and finally last few missions it was much simpler to switch to deal armor ignoring damage using secondary profession skills (Cry of Pain + Backfire + Empathy) and from ele use only wards + elite for energy managment.

I was planing to continue to EotN with my ele, but do no like prespective to play builds I know they would work better and with greater flexibility with other primary profession. I tried to continue playing Prophecies with the same character, but missions are too easy and do it just for missing elites is not much fun. I will try probably another campaign with mes or necro and see then. I am saying this pretty sad, I love playing mages (finished Baldurs's Gate 2 + ToB with just single sorcerer just for fun of it). And I will give ele in PvP a try, see if I can survive with ele in RA, but start is pretty hard and many people playing RA are far from friendly.

PS sorry to repeat this moan once more, but +1 co complains about Intensity - why it is so useless compared with Cry Of Pain or Necrosis?

Eles are better support in Hardmode than NM because of the lower DPS output. If you want to be good utility, use Ether Renewal+Protection Combo, or wards. In Normal Mode the DPS is great, but the Armor becomes to great in HM that its not even funny.
