Default Elementalists doing big damage in Hard Mode?

I've recently run into an interesting skill combination.

Using Ebon Standard of Honor (r10, of course), "By Ural's Hammer!", and the Cracked armor condition, I've been able to churn out damage of about 140 in Hard Mode, with Searing Flames. And that's at 16 Fire Magic, no candy or attribute boosts beyond my runes.

I figured I should let all my other ele buddies know so we can get back into the elite areas that we seem to have been ejected from.

I'm gonna get a few friends together and see if we can't do FoWsc faster than Manlyway.

Yes, i've been using something simular for a while. I had been trying to fit in epidemic for some AoE cracked armor, and AoE 140s, a bit energy intensive.

You'd need 3 eles to spike properly, and skeletal bonds would be annoying with spellbreaker :L

My guess is either lightning orb (or shell shock) + epidemic or taking a necro secondary for weaken armor.

While that is, in fact, big damage for HM, almost everything you're going to come up against has fire damage protection...so you're better off getting interesting with air magic or mirror of ice

Yeah, Air Magic is great for HM. The damage may seem a bit sucky, but Fire magic without the armor penetration is often suckier.

Is that really true? Aside from the obviously fire resistant monsters, I'm alway tought most mobs were neutral versus fire. Or at least have only a very slight advantage vs fire.

EDIT : after checking quickly on the wiki, most mobs seem to be neutral to fire. And if you count that everything that's ice or plant is weak vs fire...
Unless you were talking about FoW speciffically...

Shitterflames can actually be used in DoA successfully. 1 VoR, 3 searing(one with weaken armor). Fast and easy. Combo is usually Auspicious->Rodgort's->SF->Cry. LB title+BUH+Weaken Armor=win.

Use the ranger skill 'winter' if u wana use fire, ice or earth.also elemental lord+glyph of ele powa is worth takin, mantra of frost? Why not, battle standard to make more fun but ask an ally to take it, earth ele farmer with shock wave etc, they all work. Pain inverter is much fun in HM.

I use air magic with assassin's promise. Mindbender'd, lightning orb, vanguard assassin, chain lightning, Finish him. Repeat, using GoLE, air attunement, and Assassin's Promise for energy. The build works nicely as long as stuff keeps dying (which it should).

It's not awesome, but, honestly, what are you expecting from an elementalist? None of the AOE + Vanguard Ward stuff I've tried "flows" well - you get a nice boom, but you can't keep producing booms indefinitely without downtime.
