Default Is fire magic this bad?

I'm in Nightfall campaign, currently level 20, and i realised that fire deals little to none damage. Should i switch to air? And yes, is there any Nightfall ''starter'' elementalist builds I can find? I'm not ready to go for elites yet.

Happy new years and best regards!

Fire isnt bad as long as you are in normal mode.
Just get your hands on Searing Flames, it´s not hard to get in nightfall.

Searing Flames completely tears NM a new rectal orifice. Its only HM where the average enemy is more heavily defended than a NM warrior that armor-affected damage tends to putter out.

That said, if you don't have access to elites yet then you WILL be a lot weaker. This goes for almost every class. Ele's in particular are very elite-focused.

Good news is that an Ele update is coming sometime between now and the heat death of the universe. It will apparently make Ele completely overpowered if the preview we have received is correct.

Theres an update for HM and eles on its way and it will be here in a few days. HM mob armor is going down while health is going up. Just wait for the update because all the Eles magic lines will become much better.

Fire Magic is pretty poor. Toward the later areas, even in NM, you'll find yourself not dealing much in the way of damage.
The armour penetration on Invoke Lightning means Air Magic is a little more viable. Regardless, you're going to want to get the EotN PvE skills at some point.

And if you're level 20, you're more than ready to go looking for elites. Fire shouldn't be so weak that you can't operate until you have a few elites available.

I would never stick to just fire for my ele, fire is good but sometimes Water is better and again sometimes earth is better.
All depends where you are and how you play your ele.

I find Earth suits my playing style which is very defensive
