Dervish/ranger?
Hi everybody,
I have a few questions for you. When I had to choose my secondary profession for my dervish, I picked ranger. I like bows etc, so I thought it would be a good choice, now, much time later, I realise it's more then just picking a secondary profession with your eyes closed. I think I made the wrong choice because nobody talks about D/R's, I guess those two professions suck together or something. Now I need to make gold really fast, so I tried to farm solo. But it's not working at all, I tried the only build I could find on the internet. (http://guildwars.gameamp.com/guide/viewGuides/2471.php)
I've seen videos on youtube of solo farmers doing real nice things, shall I ever be able to do things like that to? If yes, how. And if no, should I change my sec. profession? Warrior? Monk?
All info is welcome.
Thank you!

Don't just pick a secondary, pick it for its skills etc.
D/W: Wild blow, protector's strike
D/A: various shadow steps and defense options
D/Mo: Mending touch
D/N, D/E, D/Rt, D/P: more obscure uses
D/Me, D/R: possibly useless? ranger generally is a secondary that doesn't work with anything that well.
The bow user D/R is trash, don't listen to that page.

[skill]Avatar of Melandru[/skill] [skill]wearying strike[/skill] [skill]chilling victory[/skill] [skill]eremite's attack[/skill] [skill]resurrection signet[/skill] [skill]pious haste[/skill] [skill]meditation[/skill] [skill]draw conditions[/skill]
12/12/3 scythe/myst/prot
don't spam chilling, use draw to help keep stuff clean of weakness, cripple, blind etc, and keep a stave handy for if you die and need to recast melandru hf ^^

I would like to add to the usefull comments that Skuld posted here.
First of all, the op mentioned that he wants to solo farm. For that, I think the best derv build is D/Mo and is The 130 Derv:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10081229
D/W...I don't see why go with Protector's strike because Mystic Sweep is another extra-attack skill but does +30 damage when maxed w/ 3 enchants. But I think Protector's does have a shorter recharge time.
D/A I think would rock, but mostly for PvP. However, Signet of Malice probably syncs well with Wearying Strike (and u don't want to use Avatar of Melandru).
There is another specialty D/A build which uses the elite skill Shadow...uh...something. Its called the Invincible Derv. I hear it works well in RA and can be used for farming. But it requires a pretty special setup for farming, and you have to go to Cantha to get the sin elite to make it work...and you need a +20% to enchant time mod. However, if this build is more resistant to enchant strip mobs, it may be worth it.
D/Mo gives Mending Touch, which you use if you get hit with conditions, don't have good monk support, and are not using the great Avatar of Melandru. Another thing to look at here is Reversal of Fortune. At 15 Myst, this enchant heals and gives back 5 energy, so it costs nothing. I think you would run that if you did not want to put points into Earth Prayers and instead used Wind Prayers. But to me, there is no beating Mystic Regeneration.
D/P I think would mostly be used for "Go for The Eyes". I use it for my derv hero.
D/E I think is used for specialty tanking situations...when you really have to completely maximize tanking potential. There are other uses as well here I'm sure.
edit: oh...and one more thing...there are potential D/R builds...I don't know if any good though. I don't think its worth it for a derv to have a pet. But one D/R build that may be OK is something that uses Apply Poison and Aura of Santicty to spread poison and give you damage reduction. Personally, I would rather use Aura of Thorns than this though.

We'll, Im pretty experiance with dervish and i've found a Nice build using a type of dervish bomb to farm blade verdt termites In Kourna. Watch this video on Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh2cGFj7sQ4
For D/A he means this build
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Build/A_InvinciBomb
For D/E I would suggest combining Mark of Rodgot, conjure flame and Rending sweep to burn targets, inflict a good amount of damage and completey remove all enchantments (rending sweep is bugged).
For D/M i would suggest using purge signet to remove all hexes and conditions due to dervish's Low Enegery pool.
But now for Derivsh Ranger t here are a few things Ranger secondary an help you with. Using Wilderness Survival.
Since Dervish can hit up to 3 foes, Apply Poison Would work we'll with a scythe for Pve to quickly poison foes. Troll Ungent can also be used as a alternative to Mystic Regen if your not big on Enchantments.
A few running skills such as Natural Stride would also help a dervish and the no attrubite Signet Antidoe Signet can help.
Other than that rangers not the best choice for a Dervish In my opinion.
Sorry if it didn't help but np if it did

You can change your secondary when you get into Sunspear Sanctuary. There's a changer at the command post.
D/Mo - hard rez, mending touch, balthazar's spirit, solo farming 130hp, shield of absorption
D/W - wild blow, sometimes 9 tactics for a shield for sandstorm bomber builds
D/A - well theres that EE shadowform thing, never tried it
D/Ri - um.....
D/R - Heket's rampage works well with Vow of Strength. Symbiosis is also nice
D/Me - channeling, elemental/physical resistance?
D/N - tainted flesh, reap impurities
D/E - solo farming with armor of earth, kinetitc armor, stoneflesh aura and obsidian flesh

Ty all for the usefull replies. I found the termite bomb on youtube to, solus, so that's what I was using for solo farming, but I think the build Ogami gave me, is worth a chance to. So I'll try that one now. Really ty all!
