Dervish Primary Going for Survivor
Any ideas on which secondary profession would help me out the most?
I'm thinking ranger secondary to have a pet, however as a Dervish I will be in melee range anyway... So will having a pet even help out?
Warrior for tactics? or small sprints or rushes?
Monk for self heal / condition removal?
Ele for Earth? or for Conjure? lol "The best defense is a good offense..." (blah blah blah.. ;P)
Rit for resto? weapon spell and what not?
N for... wells? or plague touch? grenth's balance?
ummm...mes? can't think of anything; paragon? no synergy at all imHo (unless someone knows otherwise). Assassin for Dash? Return? Deaths Retreat? maybe?
That's all of them i think...
Any suggestions guys & gals?
Thanks in advance,
Troy

If you're not adverse to farming the title, go monk.
If you have factions, you can just get to level 20, turn on hardmode once you get to Cantha, and Smiter/600 your way to r3 survivor.
It's so painfully easy to do it's honestly quite ridiculous

Unfortunately, I've never beaten factions. I know there are only thirteen missions to do, but across all my characters on my account. I've never taken any of them through to the end.
I heard about people beating factions during the weekend preview and I thought to myself to not bother with it. Bad mistake... maybe?
With that, should i still go monk? or not?

that's why i'm asking for a second profession that can help the dervish survive... as in actually SURVIVE while playing the game.
not farming some jade shizz, or standing as the door person for some faction f%^kin farming.
quit with the farming crap. srsly.
i'm considerng that a ranger secondary might help just to have a pet to take some damage, but what i'm seeking is other people's opinions.
one reply answers my question so far.
Coloneh says /mo ; reason being the skill Prot spirit. (thanks Coloneh)
Now, instead of suggesting stupid farming / ez mode get survivor crap...
give me a reason as to why you think x secondary profession is good to help keep me alive with hero/henchmen throughout the game.

I would consider Mesmer or Monk secondary.
Monk, obviously, for it's healing or protecting lines.
When I got Legendary Survivor on Ranger I took Mesmer. Hex Braker came in handy quite often, as did a few other Mesmer stances. Fighting through Istan was made a little less hazardous with Hex Braker since Iboga's Conjure Phantasm and Imagined Burden kept failing. It also doesn't require investment in Domination for it to stop the hex. It's cheap and has an ok recharge. Mesmers also have a large variety of Hex Removal also. Istan has many Skales and Ibogas which use Ice Spikes and Imagined Burden, which is something you DON'T want on you when you're trying to run away.
Perhaps when you can get to Cantha ou could switch to D/A...then you can use skills like Feigned Neutrality or Death's Retreat if things get bad, which allow you to escape the battle quicker.

Well, I provided you with good, helpful feedback.
But you have taken it, and thrown it in my face.

Not much synergy, no, though Remedy Signet isn't terrible. I'd still take Mending Touch over it unless I had another really good reason to be D/P.

if i recall correctly, my initial reply to you was that i could not do HM in factions, therefore i could not farm jade brotherhood in HM. nowhere in that reply do i take your info and throw it in your face.
i'm not going to say you didn't answer my question, because i did type in my initial post, "any suggestions...". and thanks for the suggestion Snow Bunny, i just don't want to hear the same thing again after you already said it.
(btw take your beef with other people who don't use grammar / spelling correctly elsewhere.)
EDIT: still @ Snow Bunny, that reply you quoted was in response to MBP, who repeated what you said, and Bowstring Badass, who suggested the same thing, in a slightly different way...

Any secondary will work. I just stuck with /W for Wild Blow. Your team build is more important I think. Taking an MM and an extra monk helped a lot.

You might want to consider Elementalist. Since ur gonna be in the frontline all the time the earth magic skills like Stonflesh Aura might be usefull. Of course U'd need a scythe with enchantments last longer for 20%. Downside however is that on lower lvl that still only counts for a very short period of time. And because they are ele skills most cost way too much for a dervish. But still there might be some other low cost earth magic skills that can be helpful.
For hex removal you might want to go with the Mesmer secondary. But you also could get Avatar of Dwayna for that. Only costs 5 nrg and it heals you as well with every skill you use.
Make sure your Dunk and Tahl have remove hex anyway...and purge conditions while ur at it...then u don't have to worry too much about degen.
A monk secondary is obvious, but maybe not very necessary when u have good builds for Dunk and Tahl...of course then u'd have to rely on them for the healing...
The other classes will have benefits as a secondary I'm sure. But I would take ele or monk. My preference goes to ele since most ppl go for the the survivor title with a monk or sec monk. Kinda a weird way of thinking perhaps tho...

And the other downside that you're stood there doing NO DAMAGE. Wouldn't it be great if there was once a survivor that didn't use 7 defensive skills + res or ragequit near death.
/sigh

Sorry, missed this bit. OP, this is the best advice. Imo build an offensive build around dwayna, so that you are doing damage with decent self heal, hex immunity. Then take a well balanced H+H party and play through the game normally.

Hardly, If you take Avatar of Dwayna, Eternal Aura, Stonflesh Aura and a 4rd enchantment...grasping earth or vital boon or something, u still have 4 slots left for attack skills. Going for survivor is a good balance between offense and defense. I wasn't suggesting to use all defesive skills. I'm assuming that the people who read this thread are smart enough that they comprehend about this balance.
