I like avatar of Balthazar because of the speed boost,+40 armor, and holy damage.
But that is just me, and people shouldn't put something on their bar unless it relates to their build...In this case I am a high-moving tank with constant +9 hp regen and high armor :P
I find it to be a rather useful elite if you don't have anything else to put on your bar..But it probably shouldn't be used for high-end play.

Balthazar dervishes are quite scary in high-end play, since pious assault got buffed.

I have a hard time believing that Lyssa spikers wouldn't be scarier, though... while they have less armour (can be fixed but you need another skill to do it), their damage output can be extremely high.

You're gonna have a hard time hitting for the bonus damage in GvG because people tend to not be dumb.

Lyssa is easier to kite (assuming you aren't shadowstepping). A lot of times, you won't get bonus damage with lyssa in GvG (you still can, and it HURTS), while balth's holy damage will increase your damage vs warriors. You're a lot easier to spike (compared to balth or melandru).

If you're not hitting for the bonus damage, I suspect it either means the target is not using skills (no biggie!) or is using skills with extremely short activation times that fit between swings, or something. As far as I know a warrior using a skill that has to wait for the next swing to work *does* count as an activation.

Chances, are, if you're hitting something, they're kiting and not casting anything.
Hence why Lyssa is kinda bad in PvP.

AoB is the type of skill that people bring because there was nothing else that fit. Not because it was very appropriate, but because it was the best choice.
The real problem lies in Pious Assault and Grenth's Aura.

The pious buff however doesn't mean balth is any better in PvE yet its still as popular. Lyssa is still the most useful in PvE because of the ease of triggering the bonus damage.
Dwayna can be very useful if your running Rts in place of monks too.

And why would you want to run rits instead of monks...?
If izzy would just remove the activation time on assault the spike would be dead :\

rits hold a team up better than monks if you dont have to worry about hex removal.

yeah
right
ok...
now, back to the dervish:
dervishes play pretty different compared to a warrior. while kiting works very well against warriors, it is actually sometimes more dangerous to kite a dervish than to stand there and take it. if you are kiting, the dervish is autocritting... and i don't need to remind you guys just how big dervish crits are.
this where AoB shines. it's perma-speed boost means that it can catch up to any kiting target, allowing them to deliver the big crits repeatedly. if not for avatar of melandru's immunity to conditions, AoB would be the form of choice in high level gvg a long time ago.

Good joke. So we should run rits instead of monks in GvG when we're not facing hexes? Awesome!

[skill]Rush[/skill] or [skill]Crippling Sweep[/skill]
AoB "buffs" have been discussed to death already, and people deciding to use it in GvG doesn't make them any better. If it weren't for pious assault, this skill would still never see light.
