Would the presence of the Dervish in GW2 influence your choice?
Question is simple, would the presence of exclusion of the dervish in gw2 influence your choice in buying the game? This question is mainly posed to those whose main char's are dervish or they enjoy playing a derv in general.
With anet being stingy on class/races in gw2, we honestly have no idea what is being done about this. However personally, I would feel shafted if dervs were literally forgotten and avatars went by the wayside. Hey, gw1 is free to play so if thats the case I'll just stick with casually playing the old stuff.
Is there any likelyhood dervs will not be present? Unfortunately yes. Anet's policy has become majority wins and looking at the majority opinions in this thread: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...260958&page=18 I see that most people not only feel dervs should be left out of gw2, but that their creation was a mistake. In addition, could you imagine an asura or a charr running around with a dervish hood? I'm beginning to not be too anxious for the impending doom of gw2 and the death of my main.

That whole thread is pointless, GW2's mechanics are likely to differ so much, that the classes won't be comprable. If they wanted to make the same game, they'd be doing more expansions instead of a sequel. Heck, I'm doubting a pure healer class like Monk is going to even exist, because they suck for soloing (or duoing) around the explorables like they will be forced to do.
I doubt that there's going to be a class named "Dervish" in a Tyrian setting, but again, that doesn't mean anything. Norn of any class are going to be taking on (animal) forms, they'll probably come up with some Paladin-like class to replace the monk AKA bigger wammo than a derv is, etc.

No. There will be other classes. I enjoy playing Derv, but the absence of the class wouldnt motivate me to not buy GW2

While I do appreciate the imput, I really wanted imput from those who are actually attatched to their derv's as their main, R/ is by your name. Doesn't devalue your statement, just gives reason as to your apathy in the matter (it doesnt concern rangers).

I have a dervish, I liked it for a long while, but it gets as boring as a warrior to me. Only professions that will affect my choosing of a profession would be Necromancer, Assassin, Ranger, Ritualist, which are my 4 main characters .
I am actually hoping that the profession system is redone to the point where none of the profession names are the same, and only the basic concept of the professions can be connected. And please, please, please, a tier system instead of a secondary system >.<

Monks can't solo? huh? No Dervish in Tyrian setting? Tell that to Anton and Hydra, not Dervishes but their professions don't belong to Tyria!
Overall, I really don't care what professions are in GW2. I'll just choose which seems the best, and with the benefits through the HoM being to all GW2 characters now, I can just end up testing all GW2 professions.
But I'm sure only the basic concept will stay the same between the two games, no names/skills/attributes will be intentionally kept (if they are kept, then its hopefully going to be from lack of imagination and not laziness).
There's my two cents.

I'm dunno how they are implementing the professions and the races into GW2. I don't see anet removing the essence of the dervish from gw2. They may decide it's not a class anymore but I'm sure they will have scythes for all those that wanna use em. Anyway, to answer your question...would I be disappointed if for some stupid reason all things dervish were removed and forgotten...yah I would be a little disappointed but I don't think it would prevent me from enjoying the game.

I doubt it would prevent me from buying and playing GW2 but it would definitely be a blow. It's hard to discuss though, because we don't know about GW2 mechanics yet. I think races will replace professions a bit - race 1 specializes in this, race 2 in that; but, that's just a thought.
If the profession concept would stay the same I think dervishes are safe. If there will be scythes, there will be dervishes. The class to go is either Paragon (merge with Warrior) or Assassin.
