we were running some UW balanced (HM)the other day and i was frontlining on my derv, no bonds or anything, full windwalkers insigs. running a zealous vow build, with decent monks didnt have any problems, died once on 4horsemen. I have also ran my derv in DoA nm with heroes and a buddy and it does fine there.
some people dont acknowledge them as being able to high end pve, but given the right armor setup and skillset they can do just as fine as a warrior, not to mention they look badass

I personally love Derv. A short while after the release of NF, I permanently demoted my warrior and made my new derv my primary char.
They are extremely versatile if you don't rely too much on established builds and are willing to experiment with all secondary classes, and, in some cases, weapon classes. Relatively high energy regen(compared to warriors) and adjacent damage with every scythe swing more than makes up for the lack of the strength attribute and absorption rune to me.
That having been said, I still play my old warrior some, and the primary char on my second account is still a warrior. It is a fun class and the armors are awesome
*Edit* Just realized I completely ignored the question. I do fine in high-end pve with both. It just depends on the build and who the group leader is.

For me, Dervish.
A ER infuse with great dwarf weapon on my bar I love any profession that can pump AoE and knocklock mobs.
Warrior has AoE attacks like triple chop, cyclone and whirling attack, but they might not always be axe warrior. That's why I love dervishes.

If you use a protter hero, Mysticism is like Soul Reaping except that it also heals. Yeah, I love my Dervish in PvE. I haven't tried PvP with him yet, I'm going for 1337500 XP first.

I personally prefer warrior, but havent done much high end pvp recently. I just find that if a scythe is required a warrior can dish out more pain with WE Scythe then a derv can, and if u need another weapon it can do that as well.

My main is my Dervish, but I deleted every Warrior I've made except for the last one (who I settled on axes for). Not a fan of Warriors at all.
I love Dervishes, though. I do pretty much everything with her, with few problems. People complain about the primary attribute being weak, and used to agree with it, but now I'm not so sure. It triggers when any enchantment ends on you. If you're doing any sort of later/high-end PvE, you're going to have a prot Monk in your group (if you don't, you're a fool). I've got Mysticism giving me extra health and energy pretty much constantly They're also quite flexible in the options that each attribute gives (Earth Prayers allows you to inflict damage, heal, tank, cause conditions...name another attribute in the game that allows all of that. I don't think you can).
I've only really done low-end PvP (RA, JQ, etc - I don't have any interest in high-end PvP), but I did quite well with my Derv in there.
Dervishes are great and my favorite profession in the game.

ppl are using em..

Moving this out of Dervish and into Campfire since the OP's question involves 2 professions...

Im a dervish main, and i love them, but I'll be one to say I'd take a warrior in place of a dervish for the simple fact of there are maybe 4 or 5 GOOD dervishes that i know, One of them is Me (only reason i say it is because ive been told it otherwise i wouldnt count myself) and honestly unless its one of the five, no id take a good warior.
Dervishes when played right however will be much easier on the monk.
In GW includeing player skill id take a warrior any day
If it was just based on GW skills id bring a dervish, because their means of tanking is inflicting weakness/blind on foes, and weakness/blind is GREAT for teams incase agro is lost.
PREFERABLY i would take a warrior tank, and a dervish midline with EDA and Armor of Sanctity (some nice blind/weakness spread) surviveable tank holds aggro and maybe casts some bleed/deepwound, and thew dervish uses hard hitting scythe attacks.

well, if ur talking about speed clears where ppl use hundred blades wars, no space for dervs at all.
But if its just general pve with no particular team builds, I think dervs are better than wars. Dervs have better dmg than wars in pve, for example, using melandru in soo to hit an average of 400+ dmg or to hit destroyers around 200.(tho you need a smite to provide key enchants) In my opinion, dervs are like melee eles in pve: wounding strike+chilling victory+mystic sweep=300~400 dmg and deep wound in HM(not those vaettir who got like 180 armor), and you can hit 3 if you group them. If you wanna help ur team, u can consider bring "save yourself", even tho it costs 8 adrenaline, but thats only like 4 secs if you keep hitting 3.

i used dervish for a month after i created it. and i noticed that you cannot be damage too much if you keep armor of sanctity on, it works well in PvE Hm or Nm and even in PVP!! the only prob is if its enchant gets remove thus making dervish weak in defense. i read the info about derv in some website and it says that, Derv are like paladin that can do damage and at the same time cover their lack of defense through buffs.
try this if you want to tank: Viel of thorns *to keep monster at you so that they wont run around even if one of you team mates get too close*, armor of sanctity and finally pray that they dont remove you enchant.
to answer the question, people cannot realize how good dervishes are when it comes to PvE tanking like a war and a good spike like a sin, though they dont have interrupts and Knock down there is always a 2nd profession to try to accommodate those lack of skills.

With a proper backline and enough buffs, all melee damage dealers (with good builds) will be effective in any part of the game.
Doesn't change the fact that Dervs are outclassed by Sins and Wars.

No, dervish get no love. Why? Because Kormir is a paragon and hates dervishes. But why???
1. Remember, Varesh was a Dervish...
2. Kormir did not bless the dervish with 'Avatar or Kormir' but the other gods have.
Until there is unanimous vote among the GW gods, dervish will never receive the buffs they need to outclass other frontline classes...
/end sarcasm
