I think most people just get too frustrated playing assassins. They are a true glass cannon. Massive packets of damage, eeeeety bitty life span -- causing most people to post on forums about how underpowered they are instead of dedicating a couple more slots to shadowstepping/evasion/self heals :P

Assassin is the only profession that have a chance to kill boon prot 1 on 1.
GPS->Ox->Spider->Shock->Fangs usually works wonders
But you pay a high price for that - before you do your combo and after that there is a period of time when you have to survive somehow. And the only 2 skills that can help you are AoD and Dark Escape (critical defences vs air ele anyone? ), meaning you run away and you run fast. Where do you run in HA, TA, RA? In GvG there is always a place for running that's why assasins may be used there but otherwise... o-o-o-o-o i suddenly got an idea - it can be used in attrition build, ha, gonna try it

Obviously you haven't observed any GvG recently. Supernova Japan (SpNv) have been using an A/E with Shock, Falling and Twisted. Why? Its a spike.
GPS, Ox, Spider, Shock, Fangs is fine in an AB i guess if you really do want to pick on boon prots, but in GvG? No, if they're on vent you'd be blinding in an instant as your combo takes that long. Not to mention that the use of Horns of the Ox is extremely obvious. Once you know the opposing team has it, you'll be kiting nearer allies to avoid the knockdown. Seriously after you see the 2nd R/A with the exact same combo you just stand together till he dies.

There are 3 problems with the assassins. 1. Its easy to get picked on and slaughtered, low armor and health: 2. Alot of the self heals and shadow steps reward you for attacking/playing badly and 3. Repatition, many skills and builds are similair. the shock fall and twister works well but i like iron then spider and lastly twisted same plan differant way of playing it.
