Assassin Build
Hi, i've just started playing an assassin and can anybody please give me some common builds on getting started in PvP and PvE?
I've heard bits about "Rage sins" and "Knockdown Sins"
but i don't know what they mean. Is it possible for anyone to post me a full 8 bar skill to get me started please?

I can't give you any advise on PvP, as I don't play PvP.
As a starting Assassin, you are limited to your skill bar.
Unsuspecting Strike
Fox Fangs
Twisted Fangs
Critical Strike
Utility
Shadow Refuge
Teleport Away skill
Rez
This is the basic model. Conditions and hexes can kill you quickly, so as a utility, try to get mend ailment or remove hex or something like that.
Rage sounds like an Elite Warrior skill to me. Knockdown Sins are Assassins that specialize in kding their enemies. Entangled Asp and other skills that kd enemies encompas their skill bar.
Hope this helps a bit.
Also look at the builds thread and other threads listed here for ideas.

In PvE since monsters tend to go down faster than players (very smart players) in PvP you'll want skills with short recharge, and a self heal. Strictly going with Assassin/X
**Neither did you specify which campaigns you have, so you may be limited in skill variety**
[skill]Golden Fox Strike[/skill]
[skill]Wild Strike[/skill]
[skill]Death Blossom[/skill]
[skill]Golden Phoenix Strike[/skill]
[skill]Critical Agility[/skill]
[skill]Way of Perfection[/skill]
[skill]Shadow Refuge[/skill]
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill] OR [skill]Sunspear Rebirth Signet[/skill]
And as for PvP, try to figure that out on your own. It makes you think more about the skills you can use and potentially come up with some thing new that may work out great for you and find enjoyable. Most of all, test test test test.
Also in PvE & PvP, the Assassin is a fragile profession. Your self heals aren't life savers, they just prevent in the inevitable. Thus you need to learn when to go in and unleash your chain, and when to retreat and let off applying pressure. Learning to 'dance' with combat is key. Charging in thinking you'll wtf-pwn-f4z3z will slam your dead corpse to the ground.

For PvP get most of the non elites unlocked first. then give it a shot many things wrk in pvp.
In PVE you can just go classic mobious strike death blossom spam with some enchantment and golden pheonix strike

For a PvE bar, you'll want a lead-offhand-dual combo that recharges quickly. MercenaryK's bar is good, though I'd replace Way of Perfection and Golden Phoenix Strike with Critical Eye (partly for maintaining Crit Agility, but also for energy management, a key part of Assassin) and Return (until you get experienced with Assassin, you want a means of getting out of combat quickly if you come under heavy fire). If you don't have NF, grab Jagged Strike and Critical Defenses instead of Golden Fox Strike and Critical Agility.
As soon as possible, get Moebius Strike, even if you have to use an elite sin tome (they're cheap anyway compared to other professions), and use:
[skill]Golden Phoenix Strike[/skill][skill]Death Blossom[/skill][skill]Moebius Strike[/skill][skill]Critical Strike[/skill][skill]Critical Eye[/skill][skill]Critical Defenses[/skill][skill]Critical Agility[/skill][skill]Death Pact Signet[/skill]

I'm also planning to create a sin for PvE, like the OP.
Sorry for being a noob in Assassins, but can a dual attack follow another dual attack?
Also, is a teleport/shadow step skill necessary in every sin build in PvE?

No, a shadow step skill, in PvE, isn't necessary. Typically some thing like Dash is good enough, if that. You may not even need a skill to move faster or shadow step.
Jaigoda I would think the Assassin shouldn't bring a rez skill unless absolutely necessary (Yes, speaking in PvE). To make the monks job much easier, since Assassins tend to drop easy, providing high damage and self preservation does the party a good enough benefit over a rez skill.
That's my thoughts on it though. It never hurts to take a rez skill but ...... on my Assassin, unless I have a skill slot open for anything under the blue sky, I shy away from bringing a rez skill.

Skills will say what they require. No current dual attack in existence can follow another dual attack.

I forgot. What's the lead attack in this bar? Or am I missing something?

Critical Agility and Critical Defenses are the enchantments to trigger the lead-skip ability of Golden Phoenix Strike.

Oh. So as long as the off-hand attack hits, the chain no longer needs a lead attack. Thanks.
