true assassin, a theory.
i watch alot of kung fu/ ninja movies. the image of a true ninja to me is the black gear with a sword (katana of course ). imagine my surprise upon getting factions that the main assassin weapons were daggers. really? daggers?
so i guess what im getting at is, if you use a sword in place of daggers on a sin, does it not have the same mod capacity as a set of daggers? yes. so, in theory, shouldnt i be able to rock a sword and no offhand? with way of the master and critical eye in my bar one can just interchange investment in dagger mastery to swordsmanship (f*ck tactics). with all this said, what are some 2/3 skill sword combos to throw in there with the above skills? and is this even logical?
on my current bar i have shadow refuge for healing, and i am the strongest at the end just for a lil attack boost. im not too familliar with sword combos or sword elites, i play an axe warrior aside of my assassin. i would try to throw a build together for this to present, but im not a build chemist. im sure you guys have some better ideas than i can come up with.
so in essence i guess this is a build request. so thanks in advance for any help. i only lack nightfall, but a build including nightfall skills is cool for others who have it of course. join the cause of the true assassin.
note: when the assassin runs with sprint or dash how they hold their sword is fresh, thats true katana form! i always thought that was cool. looks wack with daggers. lol. holla!

Personally...I'd just accept your definition and Anet's differ.
When I think Sins I think Sai before Katana...each to their own and good luck in your search.

Ninjas often wield daggers too. Samurai are the ones that focus primarily on katanas, so it's not a surprise to see assassins with daggers.

Yes, a sword has the same mod capacity as a set of daggers (two upgrades and maybe an inscription if the weapon in question has an inscription slot too).
However, using anything other than a set of daggers on an assassin primary is more of a gimmick. The assassin's greatest strength is in the attack chains that rip through even the most heavily armored targets like a hot knife through butter - which can only be performed with a pair of daggers.
Also, if you did want to use Way of the Master/Critical Eye to take advantage of critical hits with a non-dagger weapon, it would make more sense to use a weapon that can inflict the most damage possible (such as a hammer or scythe with their high strike damage potentials).
As a side note, if you want a ninja-ish weapon the craftable daggers in Factions are sai

Ninja is not the same with asassin. A ninja uses swords, an assassin uses daggers. If you still want to wield a sword:
[skill]Crippling Slash[/skill][skill]Gash[/skill][skill]Sun and Moon Slash[/skill]or[skill]Knee Cutter[/skill]
[skill]Sever Artery[/skill][skill]Gash[/skill][skill]Sun and Moon Slash[/skill]
[skill]Quivering Blade[/skill][skill]Sun and Moon Slash[/skill][skill]Galrath Slash[/skill]

Assassin is a killer, they do not actually need a weapon of choice.
A man hired for the role of killing is an assassin.
A man hired to protect you or fight for you is a mercenary.
Thus you can watch your movies, but an assassin can fight with a penny, if hes hired to kill Hes still an assassin
actually it be cool to see someone kill with a penny daily..

Hitman's Agent 47 is also an assassin... he doesnt really use sharp objects much unless its a knife. he usually uses guns.
i think ur confusing assassin with a ninja(who in movies tend to have katanas as well)

Ninjas don't use katana sword either. They use a much shorter straight-edged sword, and katana is curved edge and much longer.

Ninja are more known for using Wakisashi I believe which is a sword designed for use indoors. Which is why they use cause they are smaller and can be used to fight in tight areas, which unlike the typical katana which was taken off by Samuri when they went indoors. But also ninja didn't fight unless they had to they prefered to use stealthy killing instead of fighting, the sword was a last ditch weapon when all else failed.

there are lots of reasons above that swords dont fit assassins, but the functional reason for guild wars is critical strikes. sins use daggers because the have the capacity to strike faster than any other melee weapon. the more criticcal hits you get in, the more energy and damage you get. some sins like to use a diferent weapon, and this is entirely possible. however your only real options are the scythe and axe because of their damage range. critical hit damage is a product of the weapon's max damage and for their attack speed scythes and axes have the highest max damage. swords have a rather low max damage.

If you simply want to use swords while playing an assassin why not consider using Shiro's Blades?
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Shiro%27s_Blades
I think they are more than badass enough.
Sins are generally not suited for using sword skills since it takes too long to prep up a spike with adrenaline and only one sword skill deals deepwound. Besides, you don't have enough armor to stay alive long enough to build up the adrenalines anyways, especially if your not gonna use a shield like you said. Also like Coloneh stated, daggers are simply faster with double strike meaning better energy management with critical strikes. Personally I feel that daggers are the only weapons capable of bringing out the full capacities of assassins, but if you want to experiment with other weapons thats perfectly fine but just don't expect it to work out so well like what you saw in the movies.

ok so...
so basically, this guy wants a ninja, like ryu from ninja gaiden, with full gear and mask, but in guild wars? sounds like a new suggestion for a new skill set for sins. one in which a player can have linkable sword attacks, but with the sins one-two-three strike moves. spunds cool, but its never gonna happen. the ninja and the assassin are two different things. for assassin, think hitman, for ninja, think ninja gaiden's ryu.
lol

jeez. i should have said true ninja, shoot me. lol.
i am aware of the definition of assassin. when i said true assassin obviously i was relating to guild wars.
thanks for the replies.
o yea and sais are a good example of a ninja weapon also. ive got to find some pics or movie titles showing my katana point. maybe.
also, i am aware of the straighter blade type more commonly used than a katana as a ninja weapon. dont forget there are chinese ninjas and japanese ninjas. and andreus, ryu from ninja gaiden is a perfect example of what i think of. ninja scroll anyone?
