This is about Staffs with Universal HSR 20%, +10 Energy and 11-22dmg AND a Requirement of 8. Like those:

I'm guesstimating there should be quite a bunch of them in existance but I've only seen 3 - these 2 and one Zodiac Staff Q8 Divine 20/10 (only got screenshots in french).

Does anybody know, got screenshots or even have a staff like that?
I'm (probably) not looking to buy any so I'm not posting in WTB, just want to know how many more of them can there be around. Was there any real collectors interest in those? The only ones I've seen sold pretty cheap.

Ok so,

Eir has r8 20/10 divien zodiac and r8 20/20 heal branch

Morph has r8 20/10 Divine Zodiac

There been around r8 20/19 Earth & Water staffs core skin on guru, Dont know Who owns em right now

Also seen r8 20/10 Holy branch

But theres like Dozen of i know, Cba search screens atm but i will try later if i remember.

Me and Stuey Discussed this before, and Theyre By far most rare type on r8.

Also, Theyre damn rare, but there never seemed be much intrest on em. Why? That question i cant answer..

And well And when Staffs were nerfed (From postnerf 2 gold inher to 1gold inher)
Those staffs became drop, with all reqs

I've seen at least 2 req8 20/10 Forbidden staves at one point - don't remember attris though. Maybe Mouria owned one of them, not so sure though.

And I still have that Earth Staff - don't get any decent offers on it, so I just keep it

hmm I dont exactly remember the seller's name but I sold an old prenerf Q8 DF Raven Staff. I dont have a screenshot either D:

Thread is about postnerf req8 Staves, not pre

BTW: I'm almost sure there was a req8 communing 20/10 Zodiac Staff somewhere, too. Zodiacs seem to drop "a lot" (compared to other skins at least) with req8 postnerf.

I completely forgot I knew about the 2 ones Eir has so I knew of 5. But good to see there are more known.

A bit surprising there are 3 Zodiacs but no Shadow or Ghostly which I expected.

Seriously, nobody knows answer to my question about WHAT made those staffs even possible?

I must repeat, those staves are NOT like most other items with req lower than it should be and they can't just drop like other q8s. They can't just drop, it's not about low % chance here.

So, nobody knows?

Maybe before Nightfall release? I don't know.... at least I also know of 2 pre-nerf req7 Staves if that helps any: req7 Evil Eye 10%HCT with HRT Inherent missing, and req7 10/10 Celestial Staff (I think it was some Ritu attri).

So if I remember right those are both Canthan Skins. Also all other skins mentioned here were Skins to be found in Cantha (Zodiac, Forbidden, Canthan "Elemental" Staves, Holy Branch).

Doesn't know if that helps any... or is close to solution

I know those 2 old req.7 staffs (the celestial r7 10/10 is also req Curses) but they got nothing to do with those updated r8s.

A history lesson!

There were 2 large separate updates.

First, the "October 25" update which happened on Oct26, 2006 at 03:10am [GMT] (+/- 15minutes)
It has introduced multiple changes to items, including giving staves the inherent 20% HSR mod and reworking their generation algorithm parameters, making staves work a bit differently than other weapons when it comes to generating them. The rework didn't enable the r8s, it did quite the opposite, it disabled the possibility of a perfect base (20/10/11-22) to drop under the minimum allowed req.
But this update DIDN'T change the minimum allowed req for max item_level weapons!!! It was still 8!

Another thing which should be interesting to us collectors/traders is that this update reintroduced the possibility of +5 Energy inherent weapons to Tyria. Here comes the Q8 Chaos Axe +5Energy drops and a few others!

about 26 hours later - Oct27, 2006 at 05:30am [GMT] (+/- 15minutes) there was another big update, which has opened the Nightfall content.

It was THIS update that did the REQ NERF, simply changing an 8 into a 9 as the minimum allowed req for max item_level weapons. That's why not even for a moment max req.7s could drop in NF.
This update was global and affected Tyria, Cantha and Elona in the same way - that's simply because the generating algorithms for weapons' base stats are THE SAME for all GW, no matter if insc or not.

The time of wonders was short, just the ~26 hours between those 2 updates and only then could those staves drop. They were just ordinary high level drops then, as the req range for all top level drops was 8-13, with the same probability for each.

Some may remember another time of wonders, just before Factions release, when +5Ene weapons starting to drop in tyria, causing panic in the HoD sword market, but it lasted just a 2-3 hours then so q8 +5 chaos axes and others rarities most likely come from the 26 hours pre-NF period.

tl;dr - 2 updates, 1st added Universal HSR to staves drops, 2nd update a day later changed minimum req for max from 8 to 9.

Well, actually I didn't think that time was so short, but I was quite thinking what you explained. Somehow I thought there was an update ~1 week before Nightfall release that had introduced the new staff mods, but as it seems my memory failed a bit

Also, just to make sure, as I understood you: req8 5nrg Tyrian only skins could only drop during those 2 "times of wonders" as you called them? So that would explain why those are so rare. But why does one see the core skins (longsword, brute, fellblade, etc.) that rare in req8 5nrg compared to Canthan Skins (GpB, Gothic, Wicked Blade, Cleaver, yes even the "rare" skins Jitte, Katana, etc. I've had more often than I have seen any core skin with req8 5nrg)?

I haven't been tracking the rarity/availability of specific skins and so I'm not sure if those "core" skins can even drop in Cantha as golds at all (because dropping as a white doesn't necessarily mean that same source can drop it as a gold), or at least if they could in the key period of 6 months between Factions and Nightfall releases (as further updates may have changed that, namely Nightfall release making certain skins 'core' instead of Proph only and especially Hard Mode update, which introduced gold drops to some areas that didn't have them because of too low level)

I've seen many white/blue fellblades or fds drop in Cantha but don't exactly remember a gold one, so would need more info or research on that. This should make a good separate thread - the search of Prophecies skins that drop as golds in Cantha.

I can only guess here but I think that the extreme rarity of tyrian req8 +5enes is caused by that - their rarity or even unavailability as golds in Cantha, at least in that 6 months period between Factions and Nightfall releases.

Some of Prophecies SWORD skins should still be able to drop req8 +5energy even now, for example Long Sword, but chances are very very low.

When i was Chesting in Cantha HM (did open aprox 9500 chests)
I got several gold max fds, fellblade, wingblade, gladius, longsword and so on, core skins of tyria, same for axes..
