After seeing bodyboarder's ridiculous Diamond Aegis in the PC forum, I was thinking of the rarity of the various Canthan-exclusive shields.

It seems to me that I've never seen a strength Diamond or Iridescent for sale. Granted, I don't pay as much attention to the High End threads as a lot of Guru folks, but still... By comparison, shields like Amber Aegis and Echovald seems fairly commonplace (although it's still kinda hard to find them with decent dual mods).

I'm wondering what the old-timers around Guru have noticed about the relative rarity of some of these Canthan shields (Amber, Diamond, and Iridescent Aegii, Spiked Targe, GotH, Gothic Defender, Bladed, Echovald, etc).

Diamond Aegis e.g. can't drop inscr. with req strength. Only oldschool one can come with strength Attri. In 2007 I had a req8 Str -2/en 30hp Diamond, bought for 100e and sold a bit later for 200e or so. Also oldschool Kappas are quite rare, and you should not forget about them on your list

I used to have some RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing hawt and nice Shields from the Skins you listed, as I was a very active trader for them in the past. Just so you have an idea, some of what I used to buy/have/sell:

Diamond req8 str. 30hp -2/en
Amber req9 tac. -5/20 30hp
Kappas req9 tac. +10vsDemons 30hp (+10vsDemons was crap back then... sold for 100k+10e'ish or so

)
Kappas req8 Str. 29hp -5/20 (whoever bought it: I hate you now

)
GoTH req9 tac. -5/20 30hp
Echovald req8 tac. 30hp -3/´hex (gave for free to a friend when I went inactive)
Echovald req8 str. -2/en 29hp (sold for +40e or so... pretty nice price back then for a non perfect shield)
Bladed req8 tac. 45/-2 stance (400k was the price. Looking back one can't understand it, but prices used to be cheaper^^)
Amber req9 tac. -20%*some condition forgot what* +30hp (went for less than 30k afair)
"some" req9 Echovalds -2/30 or -2/45... don't remember them all tbh

For sure I had more. Can't think of them right now though.

What I can tell you: Amber with nice stats is a lot more rare than Echovalds

Yeah, I haven't forgotten about Kappas - they're actually one of my favorite shield skins. But unlike most of those above, they drop inscribable in Strength. GotH and Spiked Targe are the only other Canthans that I can think of that come insc in Str. All three of those seem (to me) to be fairly rare in decently modded oldschool versions.

I imagine that q8 Diamond would be worth quite a bit more now, no? I seem to recall a q8 -2stance/+30 Amber selling for quite a bit in High End last year.

Personally, I tend to favour Canthan skins (aesthetically, rather than for rarity sake), and I think it's a real shame that a lot of these shields aren't more accessible to the average player.

Emblazoned also comes stre insc

But yeah By far Imo Diamond and iridescent aegisses are rarest Canthan shield skins to get as drop. Iridescent is for me one of two canthan skins i never had drop, and ive ran 11000 chests there and farmed & Played ALOT.

There is fairly many nice diamonds and iridescents tho, noneone sells em and idk who has em.

Theres even few nice r7s! like r7 stre 16ar 29hp 5/20 Iridescent

Tbh i find Echo/gothic/embla/Bronze/spiked/cele Most common skins from cantha

After that GoTH, Ornate, plagueborn

And Rare ones are Amber, bladed, kappa, outcast, Diamond & iridescent

Hmmm i'd agree with pleikki's statement about diamond/iridescent....
During Chestruns (~21.000chests now, nearly all in cantha) i only had 2 iridescent aegis and not even 1 diamond....

But well.... I would never say that Emblazoned/Cele can be compared with Echo/Spiked^^
Imo it's more or less like this:

For Zodiac, meh, its Deep/urgoz drop only so its hard to say, ive had dozens but for non insc ones theyre not that common, insc version in otherhand is real common from end chest

- 0 diamond
- 2 Iridescent
- 3-5 Bladed
- 30+ Outcast (did a lot CR in Rhea's earlier)
- 3-5 GotH (noninscr only)
- 20 spiked
- 20 bronze
- 30 Plagueborn
- 5 kappa
- 30+ amber
- 40+ Ornate
- 40+ Echo
- 40+ Gothic
- 50-70 Celestial
- 50-70 embla (drop a lot at pongmei / quinkai)
- 5 zodiacs (but only because i never rly did a lot urgoz/deep)

The observed rarity is all about what zones you choose to chestrun/farm in. Personally I remember having a few Diamond/Iridescent drop in the latest areas of Echovald Forerst, namely Morostav Trail and Mourning Veil Falls. I don't think I've got either from earlier zones so that might be the key. Try runninng there.

Some skins aren't rare at all as sticking to a specific area or mobtype will drop you lots of that specific shield, for example Celestial, Kappa, Plagueborn, Zodiac. It's quite different with the more widespread skins, like the Echovald forest ones - I have ran a couple hundred chests in Melandru's Hope and Drazach Thicket and been getting about an equal numbers of Echo, Gothic, Ornate and GotH, and some more rare Amber, Spiked, Bronze (bronze however drop alot from the Canthan chests in the Maatu run for me). Zero Diamond/Iridescent observed from those runs.

~3200 Maatu (here one diamond)
~1600 Xaguang (here had one diamond)
~900 Nahpui
~1200 Undercity
~700 Raisu Palace (ive had here one diamond)
~ 400 Boreas Seabed
~ 600 Guyala Hatchery
~ 1200 Melandrus
~ 200 Unwaking waters
~ 200 Tahnnakai temple
~ 200 arborstone
~ 100 Mount Qinkai
~ 200 Mourning veil falls

Not sure how accurate it is, but according to the wikia, Diamond and Iridescent both drop from Forbidden chests (among a few others). With all the chest running there, you'd think they'd be more common.

And although I haven't opened nearly the number of chests that you folks have, I'm fairly certain I've had most of the Canthan shields drop at least once in gold - with the exception of Diamond, Iridescent, and Spiked. Again according to wikia, gold Spiked only drops in Shing Jea HM. True/false?

It's interesting that you list Bladed as really rare. I had one drop from an Outcast mob (I think) that sat in my low-end thread for months with no offers - I finally merched it. Sub-optimal stats, but dual modded and decent req (iirc q10 Tactics +45^stance, -3^hexed - or something along those lines). I'm fairly certain that I also offered it to a few people in Kamadan looking for oldschool shields and didn't get any interest. *shrug*

I can agree with that.
It's not one of the latest but both of my Iridescent came from Drazach Thicket.... If i remember right both came from chests near those mantids, but not 100% sure.

well i put bladed at very rare cause i only had a rly few drops within 20.000chests in cantha. most of em in areas where bladeds could drop....
not sure how good they drop while farming anything (i dont farm alot)... but if i look at market i'm pretty sure i see more outcasts, lpagueborns and so on than bladeds...

Hmm gold spiked only on Shing Jea Island... I know that they can drop @ Shing Jea cause i had a req10 +30/-2 there last week.
But I dont know if its the only place.... But I'd say no.
I'm pretty sure they could also drop from Foe's or Chests near Am Fah, Jade Brotherhood, Luxon/Kurzick foes and so on.... but cant prove it sry

Ive had Alot spikeds & Bronze from Chests in Nahpui explo around Am Fah foes

Alot bladeds also there, Also bladeds in undercity and maatu ive had severals, few in Xaquang

I'm 95% sure I once or twice got a gold Bladed Shield while farming halcyon job (not chest running it), and I am 100% sure I got some whites and blues there

was thinking bout buying alot of lockpicks and getting kurz title vqing kurz areas and was wandering how the chest drops might be

imo yes.
over 17,5k chests in HM and no req8 max....

but i think even in NM it will be hard to get a q8 echovald... and even if you might get one the chance that it has good mods then is like 1-5%^^

you should better save your money from vanquishing and so on and try to buy one then

at least thats what i would do if i'd be lookin for any special item like that...

well I'm pretty sure you won't get any req8 in HM cantha from chests....
but i think if you want to vq all kurick areas you will get a few echovalds / amber / gothic / goth / ornates with req9+ from chests and foes

those can be worth rly much too with the right mods on it ;-)

HM Shing Jea chests are different (lower level) just like HM Ascalon or Istan chests, I believe they can drop gold max req.8.
However they have a much worse gold to purple rate than HM chests everywhere else but still the same lockpick break rate, so theyre by far the most moneywasting chests ever (getting golds from Canthan 450g chests like the ones from Maatu is cheaper), but for a shocking factor... they can drop even a req.7 (but only as purple staff).

I did run like half year ago some chests in HM starter island but imo it isnt worth it. 8min run for 1-2 chests wich usually crap purple
