Red face Advice for an early trader

I'm not a total noob, but I've never traded any of my stuff and the storage is filling up. Can anyone give me a tip or 2 on things that no one will buy and things I should save to sell to other players? I'd appreciate especially info about whether to salvage & sell weapon upgrades.

I'm in the later part of Ascalon right now.

Thanks in advance to any who reply.

best advice would be to look thru the wanting to buy, price check, and sell threads. Then compare to items you have in inventory. Rarity of skin, along with low requirement are what everyone wants.

Thanks for the info. I did browse in the Low End sell forums earlier but didn't know what most of the stuff is.

Until now, I've been salvaging every rune and upgrade from rare items thinking I'd be able to sell them to other players. The price check thread has most of them for 1K, but I couldn't sell any for half that. Should I just not bother salvaging these?

I also have wintersday presents, tonics and a mini spikey horse thing. I haven't decided if I will use them or sell them though. And dyes that I know I won't use (yellow orange brown green)

I think the best thing to do would be either find a helpful soul on here (good luck) or offer a nominal fee for an experienced player to rifle through your drawers and tell you what's good.

Having spent the last 5 years or so educating some of the most thoroughly gifted (and dominant) traders in the game, I'd be happy to help (free of charge), but I can't be arsed to log in.

you should never start powertrading cause you want to make money. For inexperienced people there are much easier ways to make cash.

imo, only start trading if you have a passion for it. some people do, some people cant stand it.

I'm not really interested in power trading at this point. More just how to liquidate things I find through solo play.

I read the guide, and it didn't mention weapon upgrades so I'm going to just not bother with them and sell them all for now on for 20g.

Personally i merch everything unless its sup vigor or some mod in high demand.

just not worth the time trying to sell imo.

Most of the stuff you get in solo play is worthless. Golds you may as well merch unless they are q8 max, insc, or decent modded. Other inscribable common skin weps you can either merch for 300-600g or if it has a nice mod sell the mod for 500g-1k+. Sup runes can you a couple k, but its kinda something you have to wait for someone to say WTB __rune for. Most people just buy from merchant for conveniences sake.

What types of things exactly do you have? If you are only in ascolon, you may as well merch everything. As you continue through game, merch golds unless you wanna salvage mod and sell later. Keep white/black dyes to sell. Gold runes salvage. Save + sell lockpicks, tomes, etc in bulk. Uhhh cant think of much else you would get from solo play. If you get a crystalline sword dont merch it :>

I am by no means even remotely an experienced trader, but I wanted to mention something because it's a mistake I made when I first got into post-searing Ascalon.

As someone said, if you're just in Ascalon, it's pretty likely that everything you pick up should go straight to the merchant. I'm guessing that the reason you couldn't get near the prices listed here for your mods is because you don't have max mods. Modifiers come in ranges... like up to +7 armor, up to 20% chance, up to +30 health, etc.

If your mod is not giving the maximum benefit as listed on the pages linked to in this table on the Wiki, then you may as well save the salvage kits and just merch the weapon "as is." A bow grip of Fortitude is worth something if it's the full +30, but you're extremely unlikely to find a buyer if it's like +24.

Personally, I reserve (most) of the max modifiers I know people look for, and keep them in my storage to sell... I make a few extra platinum here and there doing that and right now I can afford the storage space. I keep some of the less-than-max (like a fortitude +29 health) for my use... adding it to one of my heroes' weapons, for example. I'm not at the point where I can afford/have found any amazing uber weapons to be offering my heroes, so the less-than-perfect mods on their less-than-perfect weapons works for me right now.

Inscriptions, it's worth noting, work the same way... it's got to be maxed (with one or two extremely rare exceptions) or it's not worth bothering with.

As I said, this was not something I realized when I started... but several hours of dedicated "trade watching" in Lion's Arch and Kamadan helped me learn a bit more about what people wanted in terms of mods... and I've made a good start in building my bank thanks to that.

Knowing commonly purchased mods/inscriptions can help to pick up a few plat here and there. Generally, max health and enchanting mods can sell for a few plat. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but I tend to keep my eyes out for those.

Also, certain inscriptions can fetch nice prices. 10 armor vs [Damage Type] mods can sell for a few plat, but the inscriptions you should really keep your eyes out for is "Forget Me Not" (max can sell for 20-30k, and 19% can still sell for a few plat).
