Default New to merchanting, may need some help.

So, the only way I make money is by farming ectos in the UW but I hear that many people make a ton of money just by buying something for their normal price or a bit lower and selling for a much higher price. I want to give this a go but i'll need some help.

I have around 240k atm, where should I start? Preferably something which isn't extremely expensive. Maybe around 30-50k. Do you guys have any idea on what's selling atm? Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section!

spend a few K on Scythe mods but saying this everyone else is doing the same thing so the profit might be small or you be luck and find a few people needing a 20/20 for 100k =0

j/k on that 100k but someone will want one and to him the price wont matter.

In today's gw economy, i think it will be very hard to start power trading with 0 experience and only 240k. Power trading isnt a consistent cash flow, especially not today.

Honestly, just stick with whatever farming you did. The amount of effort it will take to learn all the prices of golds and minis and weps and stuff is not worth it. And there are so few people playing/selling these days its hard to make money power trading.

Basically today 'powertraders' make money either through that nice really high end trade which nets hundreds or more ecto, or they invest thousands in things like consumables during weekends and sell for more later. You cant really sit in Kamadan or lions arch and 'powertrade' for money. Maybe get a lucky break here and there, but the rest will just be chump change and a waste of your time. And most of the 'lucky break' trades these days involve 'oldschool' weps which will require a looot of time to learn.

Just stick with your farming that works for you. Join a nice guild for consistent SC runs, etc. During events capitalize on easy money through farms + quests ( like snowball dominance), though its kinda late for that now.

Hate to sound discouraging but i dont see you being able to make a decent net income through trading starting with only 240k and no experience. It would be a shame to loose what you have in risky gambles.

Start looking at what people actually want/need nowadays. I've been trading a lot of

- Red/Blue/Green Rock candies. Buy for 2k/1k/500g and sell for 2.5k/1.5k/750g
- Elite Tomes (Dervish xD)
- Con sets

Not a lot of profit, but I'm making some nice extra bucks next to my runs while hardly spending time in Kamadan

If you've got tons of spare skillpoints, crafting consets and selling at ToA for 9-10k/ea can be worthwhile. A lot of the people who do it farm the feathers themselves and buy the other mats in Kamadan or LA as needed - better profit margin that way.

Selling consets isn't going to net you huge profits or anything (by powertrading standards), but it'd be fairly easy to double that 240k in just a few days.

Ok first off,

If you are getting into merchanting strictly to make money YOU WILL FAIL. Believe me I have tried to guide some friends in this and most of them end up becoming frustrated or impatient and usually lose money instead of earn money.

Basically, if you want to merchant or "powertrade" you gotta love it. If you have more fun farming ecto, I suggest you continue to do so.

On another note,

If you do want to pursue this, I suggest you find items that you like playing around with - whether it be minis, weapons, shields, consummables, tomes, whatever - and start watching prices on them in Kamadan for a week. Also look at price check threads and auctions. Be an active note-taker. Be friendly as you will have repeat customers and develop a good or bad reputation, or somewhere in the middle

Oh another thing, don't put all your eggs in one basket

good thing for beginners is *yes* ecto trading

buy for 14-100K and sell for 13-100K (check the prices @ trader)

second tormented weapons buy for 18-20 ecto sell for 20-22 ecto

(i dont spam 2 sell my stuff , i just go 2 the search of kamadan,LA and see if someone is buying)

people who buy realy want the weapons and will give more money for it!

and yes power trading still does exist! today i bought a CC q9 fire 20/20 for 75K worth probally around 25 ecto or more

I've been powertrading at Gate of Anguish. Buying gems cheap, reselling for their "market value" making roughly 1k+ per gem. I can also sell gemsets and coffers, as this gets you more than an armbrace. While I'm here, I will buy up consets that sell cheap, and resell at 9.5-10. I buy up Primeval Armor remnants at 5k, and can resell at 8-10k. I also buy any armbraces at 22e, and resell at 23e. This goes slow, but free ecto's are free ecto's. Overall, I'm making a killing.
