People selling Q8 15^50 zodiac swords for outrageous prices
Since about 5 months ago I have been trying to get a hold of a q8 15^50 zodiac sword but to no avail because people are asking from 100 to a whopping 300e for them. I don't know why these people are asking so much for a weapon that is not that rare. I have had over 15 people pm me with one since New Years because they heard on guru or word of mouth I wanted one and all asked outrageous prices for their sword. Combined prices checks on guru state its anywhere from 50-80e in worth. I really don't want to give in to these ridiculous prices to further the assumption they are worth that many ectos.
I try to watch sales of this sword closely and all these people still have it and are unable to sell them except for one incident where a player payed 250e for one either because drugs/alcohol were involved or he was just not very smart at all and made an impulse buy which is always a bad idea. He later tried to sell for 100e to earn some of his money back.

Ah that explains it. I was on a 2 year hiatus and came back at the end of april in 2010. They should stop living in the past.

i mean the bad thing with the game is there are no set prices i tell people all the time when they say well its only worth such and such well not this one the seller does get to set his own price if u want it that bad u just have to deal with it we have all paid over price for something cause we wanted it thats life

If they want that insane amount just tell them no, give your counter offer and if that doesn't work move on.

What do you think I have been doing this whole time. Its become quite irritating when everyone is selling an item for triple what its worth when there is many of them out on the market.

If there are many on the market, it should be easy to buy one for around ~80e. If you can't buy one for that price, you should seriously consider that YOUR price is actually wrong and not the sellers'.
Otherwise, wait a few weeks and it will probably drop on its own (if they're not that price)

And those are more expensive with good reason, they are far rarer than the zodiac sword.

the last few zodiac swords, r8 15>50, that have sold on guru didn't have offers of over 60e. all that means, though, is that no one was very interested. i do think they are worth more than that and wouldn't sell under 80e if not more.
btw, req8 15>50 zodiac axes go for 30-40e due to ugly skin and honestly they are much more common than the sword variant.

Always makes me scratch my head and wonder where people get things like "that is what they are worth". That is a joke. Someone already said there are no set values for items like that, and obviously if everyone wants 100e+ that is what they are selling for. Personally have sold items for much more than what everyone on here says, and it is not that hard. Certain R8 items are hard to find now, loads on dead accounts, and I have talked to tons of people that are constantly out farming that never see perfect ones drop anymore. When people are paying 100e+ still for a r13 inscription crystaline swords and that is just ONE example (BDS, Frog Scepters, and more) why should someone sell something that is FAR rarer for cheap when they are not showing up anymore in drops?
And then there is mini pets, which many are much more common than certain r8 shields and such and still sell for over 1000e.
Some people put a lot of time and effort into getting these items, farmed long hours (vs as I stated BDS and shit) and good for them for wanting some value for it. Nightfall and EoTN stuff is a joke but I don't see anyone griping about not getting their BDS for cheap.

to add to what Stuey said... I've sold my fair share of weapons for ... let's just say a lot more than what people on guru claim they are "worth"... If you have something, and you don't mind waiting for a good offer, then all the power to you. If you don't have time and need money fast, well then you sell it for what you can get.
As for buyers. IF!!! You do not want to pay a certain amount, say nty and move along. IF you are really looking for a rare item, expect to pay a premium in todays game. R8's are slowly becoming harder and harder to find, so regardless of what you think it's worth, or what someone pc's it as... It doesn't mean that's the price and anyone who doesn't sell it at that price is crazy or outrageous. I've ignored pc's on guru for a long time because they've never been that accurate. You sell things for what you can get for them.
So next time you go looking for a weapon and decide you know what it's worth, remember that the seller might think otherwise, and might refuse to sell it to you unless you offer what he'd like. If all sellers do the same thing, then maybe it's time you rethink the value of something. Yes this bugs me, because i'm sick of lowballers on rare items. Yes i hold onto things until i get premium payment for them. That's my choice, and it's worked out just fine for me. If you want a zodiac sword, r8 15^50.. remember this. I've had several offers over 150e over the last year. If you think 100e is outrageous, i think you're ignoring what you don't like. Stop whining, pay up, or move on.

Cant really disregard the psychological element of this pricing though. Look at Bone Dragon Staffs in the popular attributes, theyre not uncommon, theres tons of them. But the people that owns them are unwilling to part with them at the current market prices.
Im sure if you did a price check on a Q9 Death Magic BDS on this forum it would be PC'ed between 80 and 110e. At that price point, you could find a buyer within say a week unless youre spamming 24\7 in Kamadan. That doesnt nessesarily mean you'd find a seller within a month, because most of the people that has one for sale are people that paid similar amounts themselves and have no interest in parting with their BDSes at the same price.
Transferred to this example, a Q8 15^50 Zodiac sword might be common, but if the owners are people that one year ago was willing to pay 200e for the sword. They wouldnt hold any kind of interest in selling it at 100e because for them, at that price, it's pointless to sell as it's an item they like

Adam Smith's Invisible Hand at work.
Seriously, the only thing that is worth ANYTHING set is a r9 item with inscribable slot or 15% stance/enchant/over 50, for 5k+mats or a r9 20/20 wand or focus. Why? That's what the crafters charge (i.e. Hulen Hairyback).
It's economics 101: supply and demand.
On a side note, it's partly because everyone and their dog that uses sword only does FoWSC.

I got mine for even cheaper than yours Plekki, years ago. So what? I'm sure many have gotten them cheaper. Heck you can probably still find one for cheap if you wanna spam for a long time or just get lucky.
LifeInfusion has it right on - less and less around, still demand for them = higher price. Plus also as stated above, those are the only type of weapons in the game that have a somewhat set value - and honestly some people craft and resell even those for profit when someone does not want to take the time to do so.
And IMO and many others I have talked to in game, your opinions about prices are quite low Plekki.
