Drops in "Commandeering a Mortal Vessel"
Edit (23Dec10): See the section further down in this post for all available info as to ANet's intentions and plans concerning these items.
______________________
I haven't seen this discussed anywhere, so I figured I'd post it here.
For anyone that hasn't done the above quest yet, it's located in Majesty's Rest in a single-level dungeon complex accessed via the shrine where Rotscale and his buddies hang out. The dungeon itself re-uses the Tunnels Under Lion's Arch architecture from EotN.
I did the quest on Tuesday or Wednesday with a guildmate, and got two gold drops - one from a mob and one from the single locked chest in the dungeon. They were both inscribable - a req9 Piercing Axe, and req10 Foehammer.
Here's where it gets interesting. I assume that ANet stuck in a stealth update with the Halloween prep stuff yesterday, because when I did the quest with another guildmate last night, the drops were changed to uninscribable. This time, there were three locked chests (a lot for such a small area). One of the chests dropped a purple rune or something, but the other two resulted in gold staves - both 20/10 and both previously unavailable as uninscribable (afaik anyway). A q12 Protective Staff (Prot rather than Divine), and a q13 Illusory Staff. I only know one person that collects weirdness, so I gave both staves to Luny. But here's the pics:
I'm thinking that maybe that area is also re-using the EotN drop tables, and (theoretically at least) we might see some interesting stuff come out of there. An uninsc Darkwing Defender or one of the other EotN exclusives would be an awfully nice find. Anyone else gotten anything funky?

EDIT: Adding the following info for the benefit of everyone who hasn't seen it - thanks to LicensedLuny for assembling it all. I'll add any new info as it becomes available.

Update Dec. 23, 2010
The triple-mod items (shields, wands and foci with dual inherent mods plus an attached suffix mod) and other drops from the area still exist in game.
ArenaNet is aware of the issue. Regina tells us, "bugged items will not remain in the game." There is no further information from ANet on when that will be or which items will be considered "bugged."

We're currently looking into the bug in which players are able to apply 3 mods/inscriptions on items. This is unintended, and we're looking into solutions. I'll give you an update about it as soon as I have more information from the devs.
Thanks!

Hi, everyone. I have an update from the Live Team about those bugged items. Those bugged items will not remain in the game. They're currently in the testing process for this fix. You may want to salvage the mods on those weapons before this fix goes in. Thanks.

On Nov. 2, 2010 there was an update to "identify" (not remove) the bugged items. No further updates have mentioned these.

Because these items are subject to some upcoming changes or removals, we are not permitted to buy or sell such items on Guru for the time being.

I just finished the quest for the first time on any of my characters (I've been lazy this Halloween, shame on me.) I got all sorts of stuff that shouldn't ever drop inherent. It was all crap, and I merched it. But I took screenshots and will try to get them posted here soon.
It's providing some pretty interesting drop possibilities ... and it's an excuse to go kill Rotscale and dance nekkid upon his dragon island going "neener neener" at his corpse. Not that I ever really needed much of an excuse to do that, but still.
Cheers,
Luny
EDIT - Ok, I snapped screenshots of every drop we got inside The Mausoleum from foes or Locked Chests (all in NM.) I've sorted through them, and these are the only ones which show both
- a skin which is usually only inscribable, and
- has an inherent mod in place of an inscription.
The rest of the drops were either core skins and/or whites/blues without inscription slot or inherent mod. Such tags don't really prove or show anything new, so I didn't bother with them.
Inherent mods on:
- "Elegant Scythe"
- "Duskblade Scythe"
- "Crescent Blades"
- Elonian skin "Crude Axe" (taken from the trade window where my friend showed me his drops. The Tribal Spear next to it was blue due to prefix mod, but it had no inherent mod or insc. slot.)
We got a couple blue and purple "Hypnotic Staff"s with inherent mods, but those can drop in Factions.
FWIW, none of the drops we got in there were inscribable.

Got a purple r10 +17 while hexed banded spear and a r9 +19 while hexed pronged spear. Pretty unique. Ran it a few more times but everything else was crap so I just took the reward.

Here's an EotN exclusive:
Stupid grapes D:<
Pretty much all merch fodder on that trip, despite going with a pug of 5 other players. The only gold was a req9 Canthan skin Earth Staff with a 20% disease inherent.
@makosi: That scythe rocks
@LapaEugene: I agree with System - very nice find!

THREE inherents?! Jesus. Care to post a screenie, System?
I can't imagine it'd be possible to apply an inscription nerf to every single item that came from that quest. What happens on a server reroll, exactly?
Btw, I saw on the official wiki where someone said they got a shield with an inherent AND a shield handle.

I've been doing this run for some hours with system.fan now, and I quite expect a server reroll until October 28th now. Don't see how else they'd fix it, as they can't just delete/change gold items after they dropped automatically afaik. Won't work as it did with the triple mod greens. I hope I'm wrong, or they can find another way, but deeply smells like a reroll soon.
I got this funny guy:

Yeah, you're likely correct, Tody. It's too bad that some stuff is glitched - it wouldn't have been horrible if some new uninsc were introduced so long as they were done correctly. It's a shame that makosi and LapaEugene will probably lose those nice items on a reroll though.
I assume that a reroll means that all progress since that update will be removed? What'll that mean for all the ToT farmers? If the reroll removes everything since 28Oct, there's going to be hell to pay.

farmers? well not a big loss since tot is worthless crap anyway...
but what will that mean for traders that maybe earned few hundred ectos or something since that =)
or pvp'ers who got ghostly drop or something like that?
guess few ppl would just ragequit GW forever if there'd be a reroll =)

I can't think of a way that they could fix these items (in a reasonable manner) other than a roll back.
I can think of 3 options:
1) Roll back
2) Leave the items in game
3) Somehow detect and delete each glitched item.
Gonna be a tough thinking session for the devs if they even care about this. :P
