Default Lets discuss the end of the world!

The end of the world is approaching, with the launch of Guild Wars 2. Players will go in to a frenzy, the items they cherished for so long will be objects that will get traded away for instant gratification. R7 weapons that have remained in game for so long uncustomized will be sold in order to get ecto, and ecto will be sold in large amounts directly to the trader. Just to buy alcohol and spam sweets from the merchant. Destroyer Weapons will spike up in price, Oppressors just the same. But arm-braces will drop way down because the potential supply of arm-braces far exceeds that of Oppressor Weapons or Destroyer Weapons.

Now, I know out of experience that if I need hard cash fast and Trader buys ecto for 7,5k each. It only takes about 50 before buy price drops from 7,5 to 7k. So I know, that with the ecto supply I alone have alone, I can without a doubt drop the Trader sell price from 9,5 to 8 or 7,5k in one big sweep. Now imagine hundreds of players doing the same thing without a care or thought in the world about the future, they don't need to care if they sell their ecto at an obscenely low price. They just want that one extra point in Hall of Monuments for some extra rewards in GW2. Obsidian Shards are currently 3,5 in trader, I predict ecto to reach similar values or lower.

Now I've been thinking a bit about this, because at the same time this happens. A lot of players will also finally get together the money to get 3 points for Obsidian Armor. But since ecto is the preferred high end currency in game, most players are far more interested in keeping a high supply of ectos then they are Obsidian Shards, and so, the potencial price drop of Obsidian Shards is far lower then that of Ecto. And since a lot of people will grab Obsidian Armor, Shards may even go up as many will buy directly from the Trader.

Zkeys will also spike in price, many will be eager to finish up their titles which they may already have 500 or 700 points at. And I don't think a 2 Ecto 1 Zkey situation is unrealistic at all.

Miniatures will also spike even further in price.

UW Spider runs and Black Moa caps will become very common runs and very popular.

Well, that's the things I can initially think off, and some of the directions I believe the market can potentially take. But I'd also love to hear other predictions about what YOU think will happen as this game ends and the next begins.

Uhm no. I think anet said that you can come back to GW anytime to fill your HOM as long as you purchase the game before GW2 is released.

I foresee people leaving the old game and beginning to play the new game.

There will be a spike of caring about shiny gloves and uber pets followed by an extended period of not caring at all, which I expect to last for the rest of eternity.

Most who cares about their HoM's already filled their HoM's or are in the progress of doing so, I doubt they'll spike again

From a runner's perspective: These runs got very popular for about 2 months when the HoM calculator got released, interest in them has died down ever since.. those who wanted the pets already got them or will just enter UW with a full hero party now..

/signed on the part where ectos will loose worth tho :3

There's always people putting the completion of everything off till the last moment though. ^^ Like doing 90% of the VQs in a continent and then putting off the last 2-3 of them

A new micro transaction will be placed in the in game store and for $149.95 you can create a character and will be awarded 50/50 in the Hall of monuments and max of all available titles.

This has already been discussed ad nauseum... Your ecto theory is insanely incorrect as it has already been tried. It takes... let's just say A LOT MORE than 50e to change the trader price by even 500g... People without obi are either not interested in getting it or are working towards getting it. There will be no "negative spike" in the market due to a gw2 launch... If anything the opposite will happen. As people leave the market will unsaturate and traders will jack up prices.

Your expectations are rather ridiculous... Especially the part about r7's... People who collect weapons have already bought their hom's up by now... that much i can be confident in... Not all of them, but i'm sure those who care already have done it. Armbraces would go up in value at the same rate opressor and destroyer weapons...

I think you're fear mongering. I don't think it's a good plan. But that's just me...

Exactly, anyone rich enough to an uncusto'd r7 and cares about GW2 will almost certainly have filled their HoM by now. The same applies to people whose accounts are awash with ectos, they aren't going to suddenly liquidate because they realise they care. Sure, one or two people will have a change of heart and want to fill their HoM after holding out for so long and sell their r7s/Minis/Ecto on the cheap to get a good deal but I think this will be on such a small scale it won't affect the economy as a whole one jot.

Also agree with Carnage... only a few people I know with really nice items are selling - and that is to buy other items. It does not cost that much to fill your HoM - anyone that buys r7's won't need to liquidate and most likely already got it done.

......most of the people I know that have those type of items couldn't give two shits about GW2 anyway.....

..... and [email protected] dropping the merchant ecto prices... have seen it done myself, and that is a joke.

As for ecto eventually tanking.... duh?
