I swear that the price check thread is biased
Even though people will most likely disput my point, I think that the price check thread section is full of biases and elitism, based on the fact that a very good item I wanted a serious pc on was treated like a scourge to the guild wars economy. It is very alike to another item pc thread I saw earlier, except the other item was priced around 40-80k and mine was "merch food omnomnom". It seems that new players should just stay away because they will never be as rich or good enough for the economy and just clog up the section with threads for items "they" think are good. Just because someone joins the game late doesn't mean that their items are not any good. Have a little compassion people. Just because an item is 14^50 instead of 15^50 does not mean it is any worse. It's just 1 percent. Will that make any difference to your precious perfect modded rare skin pixal and polygons? Does anyone appreciate getting things for free or giving away things anymore? Or is it all an ecto/armbrace/minipet grab war to see who has the most cash at the end? The economy needs to be stablized. If prices wern't so inflated then maybe new players could sell what they find and not have to worry about people telling them that their req9 14^50 shadow sword that they just got from the FoW is merch food. Whites are merch food. Golds should be cared for and not be called merch food if one thing is wrong. This way of doing things reminds me of a certain political group from the 1940s who had a similar mindset. If anyone actually finishes reading this text wall, good for them and hope they will start to care.

Currently, there's a market for maxed items. There's no market for unmaxed items unless it's a particular skin (like crystalline swords).
Also, you can thank the inscription system for making your 14^50 Shadow blade worthless.

Yeah, it's a tough crowd, but they are being honest when they say it's merch fodder.
If it were r8 or lower it would be worth something. If it were 15>50 or +5 energy, it would be worth keeping. Maybe even something else perfect for collectors, but imperfect stuff of normal req isn't worth much when it comes to swords unless it's an elite skin like crystalline.
I have a collection of r7-r8 14>50's and they do the same damage as 15>50's from what I was told back in the day. At those lower reqs, they have value because of the lower req. Certain rare skins are valuable. But unfortunately, yours doesn't meet those requirements. Don't take it personal. Put it on a warrior or one of your heros or merch it cuz it will be too hard to sell for 5k.
Don't worry GW 2 is square one again and you can become one of the elitest when it comes out if you want.

Indeed. Just because you think it is worth something does not mean the rest of the community automatically does too. Of course, you can sell it to a guildy for maybe a few platinums, but generally it's not worth the time for most players to go through that trouble. If you don't like the Price Check forum, then don't price check there. It's that simple. And I find the comparison with the Nazi party highly inappropriate.

Blaming the price check section for your 14^50 shadow blade being worthless is ridiculous. Yes in practical terms the difference between 14 and 15 is nearly non existing, however with the massive amount of players doing FoWsc there are more than plenty of 15% around to saturate the market. And lets face it, if you had the choice between 14% and 15% you'd go for 15% too.
You are correct about the price checks being biased at times though, your argumentation however isn't.

As with all price checks, they are opinions based on a degree of familiarity with the market. These days I have absolutely no idea on current prices and so wouldn't offer my opinion unless it was based on an actual trade I'd made recently. They are not absolute guarantees and nobody has been appointed the absolute arbiter of item values.
However sometimes there may be occasions where opinions and facts collide - see http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/p...tml?t=10310442

price checking isn't accurate all the time its simply an estimate so don't take it too serious.
go ahead and try your luck to sell a 14^50 because you might actually be able to get a few plat(unlikely).

I think you're doing a basic mistake: price check isn't a simple "This item worth X, go sell ingame/onguru and you'll get X".
PC is there to give you just an idea of the range of price you should looking for. Plenty of times high PC'ed items didn't reach even the lowest guess when put on sale, or viceversa when on a item you wouldn't even think reach X get involved in a bid war and sell for 3 times X.
Also, different ppl will say different prices, cause maybe if something isn't worth at least 50k/100k is automatically merchfodder. For some other ppl (manly who ask PC's) that can seem already a good income of money.
Well, above stuff applies more to nice priced stuff, and mainly to OS items (insc ones aren't worth much, except rare skins, but those have a totally different market). If 10 ppl on 10 replies say you "That item wouldn't go anywhere but merch" take it as and advice and time saved to spam in Kama w/o replies.
Oh, and agree on what ppl said before me too.

THAT. inscriptions killed it, plus pc's are to be taken into consideration, not as the blind truth.

I have a serious problem with the implication that you can't get a fair PC in the PC forum.
I just looked through every PC thread that you've posted, and although I didn't participate in price-checking your stuff, I agree with almost all of the recommendations. What you call "a very good item" is complete merchant fodder - assuming you were talking about the 14^50 shadow blade.
Here's something you should remember - when someone PC's your items, they aren't arbitrarily *deciding* what your stuff is worth. It's the GW player base as a whole that dictates supply and demand. What they're giving you is an educated opinion on what you'll be able to sell for based on their own knowledge of the current GW market. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean you should shoot the messenger.
They are doing *you* a favour, so my recommendation would be to stop acting like a child and start paying attention to prices yourself. That way, you won't have to bother with the PC forum 'elitism' anymore, right?
