Guild Wars Trade Chat website is fail
I am getting more and more annoyed with that Price Check website. So many ways to manipulate it. I've been trying to sell items I saw sell on guru for certain prices, and then someone else spams in game for way lower. Then I get a PM saying I am selling too high. How do I know they were not the one spamming and they never even had it? Of course they are trying to buy, and also have multiple accounts.
Just beware of people using and manipulating this system. I know I see people saying it can be used to raise prices, but it goes the other way as well. Even thought there are really no set prices in this game. Someone can ask whatever they want and honestly it's not a "scam" as many people say but if they claim it is something that is false, that is a scam.
Also, I know people that used to sell just to get rid of things cheap. They wanted fast money and didn't care to get full market value or whatever. Prices have always been all over the place.

You're my hero Stuey.
I've been banging on about this for years.
Don't trust any prices in Kamadan's chat logs.

People will always haven their own opinion on prices. You do, I do. Everyone will have a price on a item. I saw you getting bullied by a lonely little troll who was trying just get attention. these price checking sites are only good for a very rough and large range of pricing!! They also are only good for rarity and how often a item comes up and how many of said items are still on the field of play. I wish I could have helped you in game but I would have given attention to ur harasser. Igs not like the other player hasn't tried for a crazy price on a item, so they shouldn't be coming out of their shell

Thanks for the thoughts Gentleman - All it did was make me think the person "selling" the item for cheap earlier was him. Just so happened the item he wanted was spammed a bit ago for low, then he starts harassing me that I am a rip off. I check a bunch of places for prices and based it on that. So he was like "Your price is too high, but I am interested in it" so I blocked him. Then a few minutes later he is on another account harassing me again. All he had to do is use one of his obvious many accounts to spam low prices then buy for the price he claims it is worth.
Did you also know you can go back and delete your own posts from that website? After he bought for cheap he could delete all his posts that said "WTS for XX price" and start selling for more.
----------
Yeah Max, I've seen you warning about it for a long time. Usually you've mentioned people driving prices up, which has probably happened also, but the opposite is true as well.
Someone could spam "WTS R7 -2 -2 shield for 200e" but that doesn't mean that is the value of that shield.

that is how it is...in RL as well as ingame.
If you know how much you want for your item, just say, 'sorry this is what I want, if it is too high for you, wait for someone to sell at the price you want to pay'. Be firm and people will ultimately get the idea (or they are just idiots or kids too young to understand).
and yes, people try to sell items for more than they are worth (you can check out any auction site--) and people will always try to get things for cheap. Just the way it is.

You're right of course, Cosy. But in the case of the price checker, the false prices are left as a record, which the tool presents as fact. People then use this apparent fact as a guide for their own pricing, thereby horribly skewing the prices they expect. This price checking tool is one of the main reasons that prices are so screwed.

If you want an item....
don't give a sh*t about a price check and think about what it'd be worth to you.
or just ask for a price check here.
price checks in kamadan or watching the trade chat in kamadan is 100% useless nowadays since 95% of the prices asked are ridiculous.
just my 2 cents...

The site was designed to 1.price check the most selling items, not some rarities or OS items and 2. Save people's time, because I like many others don't have time to sit in kama for 10 hours to buy an item, instead I can simply check the logs to see if someone is/was selling the item i want. Some people just take the price checks to seriously and instead of using their brain and more reliable sources, they use the site as an oracle. I don't see a reason to negate the site, because, the idea of it is good, and definitely helpful.

so you can use it to get and idea of what to expect in the market, but that doesnt mean much other than that is what other people have asked/bought. I'm with system on this one---figure out what you think its worth to you and then decide if its worth it to sell/buy based on what folks have done -sort of--historically.

This is what should be done, but the problem resides in the fact that the majority of kamadan buyers/sellers do only check the first page of the trade log, and use that as their base to prevent "scams". An individual can be as smart about it as they want. But trading involves interaction with many people that might not know better.

/agree
there are a LOT of folks who just dont think when they trade--ingame is no different that RL, people want to get what they can, legitimately or otherwise. People arent going to change because they are playing a game, actually due to the anonymity of the internet I would think it would happen MORE.
So, in the end, you can do your homework and try to sell---smart-ly!

Yeah like I said I check and look at stuff I've seen sell and check various places. Just frustrating having people that see a price on there and start talking trash, calling you a scammer or whatever. Someone can sell for whatever price they want and it doesn't make them a scammer. All you have to do is offer what you think and if they say no, then move on... As you said cosyfiep, that is RL as well.
The idea of the website is great if people were honest, which if you think there are not tons of people that try to manipulate and abuse the system then you are naive. Overall I think it's rubbish and agree with Max, it has led to a much bigger mess.
Mostly posted to make people think.
"Some people just take the price checks to seriously and instead of using their brain and more reliable sources, they use the site as an oracle." <---- That alone negates the website. Lol.

More than likely, anyone calling you a scammer based on the site is actually the scammer. Be clear on your price and ignore follow-up comments. Don't feed the trolls. Have a little laugh and move along.
Certainly, it is sad that some of the newer people in the game are taken advantage of as a result, but if they have enough money to seriously be ripped off, my guess is they did not earn it playing the game. If scammers didn't use this method, they would use the ones they did prior to the site, so no complaining or advocating will solve the core problem, even if you could cause such a change. Be smart, use it as you will, and don't worry about it.

True. Overall I guess I'd just like to spread some awareness of it. Wish I could post all over the place. I've always tried to make sure others are aware of current exploits and cheats and scams that were currently going on. There has certainly been many over the years.
I recently have seen many of the old ones resurface. Like that +5e shield. Lol.

As you should. My bad if the comments seemed directed at any individual. I simply wanted to address the issue at large and perhaps offer advice to any who are in the situation, so they can avoid the headaches of trying to ignore such scum in addition to not being ripped off by them.

There's no way to convey tone accurately but I don't mean this to come across as abrasive, but... your prices are extortionate. Perhaps that's what attracts the vitriol.
Just keep reiterating the "too expensive, don't buy it" mantra to the Kamatards. No point in engaging.

makosi - I am going off price guides on here and what others have suggested, plus what I've seen sold on here and in game. That is generally the "going price". I was out of this game for years, so I haven't kept up. Everyone else wants crazy amounts for all kinds of stuff so I am not going to give my stuff away. I have posted myself about how much certain things are now and how insane it has become but you expect me to pay high prices and then give everyone else a huge discount. Sounds idiotic.
