I think ur right on that. I used to do a bit of SoS UW NM farming for shits and giggles and I remember r7 16 AL white shields dropping on more than one occasion.

No idea if r7 Max still drop, though who knows maybe they do. Oh I also got a r8 embrossed aegis from an enemy in mt quinkai so r8 max still drop.

Yeah i did get Max r8 Offhand in Hardmode Chesting at Nahpui quarter.
Its only Gold max r8 ive ever got, and ive ran ~ 11000 Chests, And like 10000 from em at HM cantha..

Also, ive got screens somewhere were mate got recently r8 Diamond axe and r8 shortsword gold max drops while farming.

Diamond axe while farming naga in starter island cantha, Shortsword from Jade brotherhood in Cantha

Both Were in Hardmode..
Also my the mate said he had several other r8's From Naga at Starter island also

Me, Carnage and Xunlai found a pretty nifty farming spot for possible Q8 and proberly the best chance of Q7.
If you come out of ToA and go towards Talmark Wilderness, but go left when you come to it, there are like 20-30 lvl17 Bog Skale Blighters. And if you carry on, you can kill the forest mino's to, there level19. If a few people could do this and record any max drops they get, it would be awsome. Im fairly certain that if any Q7 drops, itll drop somewhere like here.
Takes about 5mins a run, in NM ofc, and can be done on anything with a fast spike

Ive been using Hundred Blades on my warrior, but i think ima try that, but with Sliver Armor to finish them off, cause the drop rate for golds is absolutely terrible!

Best drop ive got as a gold is a One of max Q8 Break Hammer, got a few Q9 max stuff, but as i said, drop rate is horrible with HB :S Will update as soon as i get anything!

EDIT: Just got 1 of max Q8 Long Sword.... I shot my foot.. IT WILL HAPPEN!

ive got over 19k chests opened and back when factions first came out, its was really easy to get R8 max from chests. but then it got nerfed and i havent seen a r8 max in over 14k chests

Then you sir, are officially the unluckiest man that has ever, or will ever live (In GuildWars ofc) Unless you solely done NF chests and all other areas in HM or the majority in NF,that is a highly unlikely figure.

it sux you get a friend thingy, with the war in kryta happenings. so I can't solo:P every time I go in with my ele with obs flesh I get killed becouse of that guy:P

Im trying to farm this at the moment also, obviously we cant take any enchantments and yea the WiK partner thing is a bit annoying, I was just using my ele, gonna try my necro now.

Just leave ToA and run towards Talkmalk Wilderness, take a left to a heap of Bog Skales, kill all these, THEY CAN DROP Q7, and Q8, very rare max though. Head towards Kessex Peak, avoiding everything after the Bog Skales. Ball up the minos and spike. I usually ball up like 2 groups of 15. After that just keep rezoneing in Kessex Peak and kill big groups of minos (Leave small groups you couldnt aggro as it will be a waste of time) I currently average around 3mins a rezone. Put some pictures up of what ive got and maps fyi

I have said in the past and I will say it again the best place I have found to chest run for q8's and q7's is the reed bog. The q8's are somewhat common and the q7's come every once in a great while although both are generally purple and crap mods. I am sure if more than one person was doing it better results could be gathered. This is in normal mode btw.

I did farm abit in cantha and and 2 white max r8 shield drops from farming thousands sins in boreas seabed

I just remembered another spot that had an unusually high drop rate of max perfect q8's that I have farmed. The Ravagers in the bloodstone fen mission bonus area. I always did it in normal mode. I remember it was in pursuit of their ecto rates and it was something stupid like 150 or so runs to 1 ecto lol. I did get a lot of good q8 tyrian weapons though.

I'm a pretty oldschool player and spend many years on GW; and yes, I've had loads of r8's drop for me during those years (not a single r7 though). By far most were in NM prophecies and cantha a fair while ago. This is probably the result of lootscalling and the update altering the droprates of low-req weapons. Besides these mechanical reasons theres also the fact that since HM came out thats pretty much what I play in PvE, also when farming. Altough I must say I did have a bunch of r8 max inscribables drop for me in HM Nightfall; mostly deadswords and ancient shields and the occasional divine symbol.

Btw Spun Ducky, could you maybe tell me how that farm is done/give me a quick 'how-to-do' IG? Im also trying Kairi's farm.. Would be fun to get to the bottom of this.

In the past few hours, I got a max (16) white r8 Tactics "Crude Shield" from Carnak The Hungry, one of the new WiK bosses in The Black Curtain. This was in hard mode.

I thought of this thread and took a screenshot before picking it up. Here are the important bits from the shot, cropped into a smaller file. (I didn't think it was worth uploading and posting the entire 1680x1050 full screenshot. If this isn't sufficient "screenshot or it didn't happen!" proof, I guess I can post the full one if folks feel it's really necessary.)

As to the topic, that's far from the first junky max r8 item I've had drop over the years. The only time I ever remember getting a max r7 drop was sometime in early/mid 2006. I was doing Ring of Fire on my Mesmer (before there was such a thing as HM.) One of the foes at that ether tower right after you walk through the lava pit dropped a gold, +12 energy r7 Frost Artifact. I can't remember if it was single mod or dual crappy mods, but it wasn't especially interesting other than the r7. If memory serves, I kept it for a couple years for the "ooo r7!" effect and wound up giving it to Stuey because I needed the room to hold something important ... like stone summit badges or a barbed axe haft. I've never had another max r7 item drop that I noticed, and I think I would've noticed if I got even a white one.
